The Gardeners Rest, Sheffield

The pub seems to have reopened. Hope it still has a bar billiards table

The Boardwalk, Sheffield

Very good gig venue, and usually has a couple of local beers on handpump (Pale Rider and Moonshine last time I was there). The beer is perhaps a little pricey but still better than most gig venues.

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

Great pub. Great beer - always having a mild on. Great prices. Great staff. Great beer garden - a little gem hidden amongst old steel buidings. Personally I prefer the Fat Cat round the corner but still always worth a visit.

For a while had a tea and coffee machine in the back room - odd touch!

The Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds

Not good.

As far as I know there are three pubs belonging to Nicholsons in Leeds (The Palace, The V&C Hotel and here) this one is by far the worst. The other two aren't bad.

The beer was overpriced and not served well by the inpolite bar staff. Yes they had a few guests on I'd not tried but when I'd just got off a train all I wanted was simple drink I knew would clench my thirst. The Tetley bitter did not taste good. For people In this situation I suggest as other reviewers have, The Prince of Wales accross the road for a friendly, well priced, proper pint!!!!

The Old Bar, Leeds University Union

Been at Leeds Uni for a year now and have been very impressed with The Old Bar. During term time 6 Cask Ales are available and occasionally one or two real ciders. Three beers from Black Sheep (Best Bitter, Ale and Rigwelter) and three from local(ish) micros. All well priced - about 2.35 a pint if I remember correctly. Open till late everyday - well after midnight over the weekend. Atmosphere is certainly vibrant - as you would expect with all the students. The best student pub in leeds by far!!!
