George Hotel, Highbridge

Nice, old style boozer! Really friendly, helpful staff - good laugh! Good pool table, darts in the lounge bar. Good juke box too. Decor is dated, but has a new carpet! Lorry drivers frequent this pub when staying over and locals are friendly! Outside area is fine, but covered ashtrays would help as the shallow tins means ash blows everywhere! It's a social pub - no events etc but a Sunday roast can be had. Best thing -the staff, welcoming. Worst - wine quality is poor and nasty ashtrays! A nice visit!

The Coopers Arms, Highbridge

It's 2014 and this pub has undergone dramatic change - for the better! The new landlord has made considerable changes through a lot of graft! It is now very much a community/family pub and often packed at weekends and busy in the week. The pub has been cleaned, decorated inside and out and offers a range of themed days and evenings. I noticed that they have open mike nights and bbq/family events on Sundays, often with live music. There is food available, Sunday dinner and other meals in the week. There is a resident skittles and pool team which is bringing in the punters. The atmosphere is good, safe, relaxed and nothing like it was a few years ago when it had another owner and a very bad rep. If you haven't ben back since those dark times give it a try! The staff are friendly and helpful, the regular customers have always chatted in a friendly way. A really lovely family pub - but don't worry!! It isn't over run with kids, that is generally on a sunny Sunday when the bouncy castle is out! You can certainly see that the new landlord has put in time, care and a lot of hard work in order to turn this very comfortable and attractive pub around! Well worth a visit is you are getting a train - 2 mins walk away, or fancy a wind down when arriving on a train!

The Reckless Engineer, Bristol

We visited Bristol last weekend and stayed at the HI Express next door. On returning from a gig on the Thekla, we decided to go to this pub - not far to crawl to our hotel! It was brilliant!! A fantastic live band, good ale and wine, friendly punters... ended up dancing with a lady who, like me, had her husband with her but he didn't partake! Lots of bikers, all very friendly. Yes, it's a bit sparse, but I suppose it depends what you want - we like ale and rock, so it ticked those boxes before even chatting to the friendly locals! Great atmosphere - fab night, so much so am roping in my biker chic mate to get the train over one evening just to go here! :)
