Stanley Ferry, Stanley

This is an awful place. Huge and impersonal. The food is production line standard and they pull all the marketing tricks to try and get you in the door to get at your money. They sell no real ale. Only redeeming factor is the canalside location.

The Griffin Inn, Castleford

Real ale is good; the guest beer was London Pride, unusual in the north. The regulars made me feel very welcome. As half the pubs in Castleford have shut down, this is one worth keeping alive.

Steam Packet Inn, Knottingley

The beer is good, two real ales. Both the lounge and public bar areas are comfortable and clean.

Unfortunaltely when I visited the conversations at the bar and at the table next to me made me feel very uncomfortable. Might just have been a bad time.

The George and Dragon, West Haddlesey

Visited on a quiet night but still enough people there to give it a friendly vibe. Real ale excellent: two regulars and one guest beer.

Note that it is not open luchtimes during the week.
