The Golden Lion, Winchester

Called in there last Thursday. Great pub/restaurant with friendly staff. We didn't eat there but enjoyed our drinks in a great atmosphere.

The Wellington Arms, Southampton

This is one of very few traditional pubs left in Southampton. No restaurant in sight. When we went in last week there were 12 real ales on sale. I had a great pint of one of my favourite tipples ESB. As a traditional boozer I must give it a 10.

The Trusty Servant, Minstead

My wife and I went there yesterday evening for a drink and was very disappointed. The beer was ok but my wife couldn't get the drink she required. From the outside it looked attractive and the garden was nice, but I wish we had not gone inside, very dull.

The Wellington Arms, Southampton

This is still a wonderful traditional pub in the heart of a residentual area. Bob the landlord certainly knows how to keep beers at their best. The pub has a very cosy atmosphere and is the best in the Southampton area. You are always assured of awarm welcome.

As a latest news update, the pub has become Redonda's official consulate in the south with the Landlord Bob Beech also received a knighthood from the island's official cardinal, who just so happens to be a regular at the Wellington Arms in Freemantle. Redonda is a tiny Caribbean island of and is just a square mile in size, a remnant of the cone of an extinct volcano rising almost 970ft from sea level.

Now renamed The Strand. Only been here during the week. Was quiet when I was there. Beer very good.

The Black Boy, Winchester

A very surprising pub. Looks small on the outside but is large on the inside. Divided into natural rooms with fires. Very welcoming and comfortable to be in. Great atmosphere. Great beer. Difficulty in parking for visitors. Very busy, even midweek.

Royal Oak, Fritham

This pub is very small and homely. one of the more traditional type pubs in the New Forest. Very welcoming. It serves a variety of real ales, including guest ales. Having never eaten I cannot comment on the food. I use this pub all year round on occasions. When it's cold they have real log fires
