The Richmal Crompton, Bromley

Went here last Saturday evening. A rather over the top security guard metal detected all the men going in, and asked us if we had any penknifes on us. Our female friends walked straight in.

Needless to say we had a drink and turned straight around.

Drinks are very cheap, which is why it is packed out, but the security measures suggest a lot of trouble and fights.

The Tooting Tram & Social, Tooting

I'd all but given up with Tooting, opting for a bus ride to Earlsfield or tube it over to Balham for an evening out.

I popped in here yesterday after reading a review about the place on Time Out. I didn't even realise the place was there, which is a shame, as it is a fantastic place, and feel a lot of people are missing out.

The decor of the building is fantastic, drinks are reasonably priced, music good and toilets clean. Could do with some food, but with every pub turning into some gastro venture, maybe not having food isn't a bad thing, fancy bar snacks instead would be a nice addition.

Will definitely be going back, Tooting needs more places like this!

The Selkirk, Tooting

I'd previously said the food was great. Sadly, on recent visits, the standards seem to be slipping. My friend ordered a portion of chips, the tiniest portion came out of hard potatoes literally swimming in oil.

Some of the other things haven't been so great. Beer is pricey, and they don't do so many of their food offers any more.

Don't get me wrong, it's still the best pub in Tooting, just needs tweaking back up to how it used to be last year.

The Duke of Devonshire, Balham

I popped in here last night. I used to like this place, it was a nice pub. It's now been done up and "Balham-ised." Balham is fast becoming an extension to Clapham and attracting all the trendies who spend spend spend on their credit cards.

Looking at the wine list, there was hardly a bottle under 20. Needless to say, we walked straight out as soon as we had walked in. Shame

The Kings Head, Tooting

Not a great place to go really, but better than most places in Tooting. The beer I drunk in there was no nice, I didn't finish my pint, the place smelt of piss and was full of some nasty looking types (OK, there was football on, which was why I went originally)

Tooting really really needs it's pubs to up the level a bit

The Selkirk, Tooting

Really good pub, great bar staff and amazing food - the Kirk burger is great!

The Coach and Horses, Covent Garden

Went here for a brief drink the other night. As most people say it is very clean. The brass pipes in the toilets prove this!

The Harp, Covent Garden

Excellent little pub. You can even get a pint of Harvey's! Being from Sussex, this is a rare sight in London!

The Grove, Balham

Went here last night. It is an excellent pub. Good selection of beers, very friendly bar staff, and the food looked amazing, will be trying it next time I visit. Was a bit smokey, but we might as well let them enjoy it until the ban comes in next month. The only down side was it was a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Bar Aquda, Covent Garden

Sadly this is now closed

GJ's, Earlsfield

Good pub for watching a game. Roast dinners on Sunday are great. Buy 2 and you get a free bottle of house wine!! Also a big beer garden.

Sadly, it turns into a nightmare on a Friday and Saturday night. Over crowded and full of knobs.

The Duke of Devonshire, Balham

I always like it in here. One of my regulars in Balham. It is fairly big, which is good if you are going with a few people, loads of seats! The bar staff are good, as are the range of drinks. Nothing amazingly special, just a nice decent pub.

The Volunteer, Lewes

Not only the worst pub in Lewes, probably the worst pub in Sussex!

Beer is flat, service is shit, very over priced. Decor is cold and unwelcoming.

It is vastly different from when the bar was in the middle in the 90s. Since the refit and numerous management changes it has gone down hill more and more and more!

The Snowdrop, Lewes

Overpriced, but quite friendly.

Pub quiz is good on Sundays!

6 Mar 2006 12:59

The Kings Head, Lewes

Lovely food, it focuses more on food than a traditional pub should!

6 Mar 2006 12:58

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

nice friendly pub, family run, good beer and food!

Excellent for watching football games in the back room!

6 Mar 2006 12:56

The Last Bid, Bond Street

Cheap drinks Sunday-Thursday, like 1.65 a pint! Gets busy for that reason!

6 Mar 2006 10:34

The Hog in the Pound, Bond Street

Not really a fan of this place, smokey, dirty and crowded. Although it can be nice to sit outside in the summer and watch all the crazed shoppers running around!

6 Mar 2006 10:33

The Henry Holland, Marylebone

Great pub to go after work. Stays open past 11pm most nights and is a chilled relaxed and friendly place.

6 Mar 2006 10:32

Liquid Blue, Bond Street

Now called the Camel, friendly staff, no draught beer and pretty over priced. OK for a night out I guess. Open til very late.

6 Mar 2006 10:32

Just So Caf Bar, Uckfield

Was ok when the place opened. Full of kids and really loud music now, not a place to go for a chat with friends, but OK for a piss up night out.

6 Mar 2006 10:30

The Alma, Uckfield

Lifeless and soulless!

6 Mar 2006 10:29

The Retro Bar, Strand

Friendly place with good bar staff and a friendly land lady. Not the best pub, but not a bad place either!

6 Mar 2006 10:25

Tir Na Nog, Wandsworth

Really friendly quiet Irish pub, run by a nice Irish family.

Good beer, they know how to poor a pint of Guinness!! Very quiet, but that can be nice for catching up with friends.

6 Mar 2006 10:22

JJ Moons, Tooting

Cheap drinks, bar staff are quite friendly. However, one of the bar staff was telling me about the stabbing they had and the drug dealers they get going in the loos. Avoid, unless you fancy a cheap drink and a laugh at the drunk old men!
