The Market Porter, Borough

Stopped in here again on a rainy Thursday night. I tried three different Archer's brews. All were in good condition and tasty. Followed those up with a wonderful pint of Harvey's and a brew called Rocket fuel. Can't remember who brewed that one. All in all, another good experience at the market porter...

The Harp, Covent Garden

Nice but small pub with a good selection of Real Ales. I tried the homewrecker ale which was very tasty. If the downstairs is packed, there is an upstairs room with a few tables.

The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge

Very well done makeover of an old bank I believe. Had the ESB, Chiswick, Discovery, and Pride on cask. Tried them all and were in great condition. Also had pretty good food as well. Very nice experience.

The Market Porter, Borough

Hit here again on my last trip. Was able to try most of the selections on cask, including good selections of Archer's, Harvey's, and a few I can't remember. All were in good condition.

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden

Really cool little pub that's pretty well hidden. Had your basic Young's selection on and were in good condition. We split a ploughman's and roastbeef sandwiche for lunch. Killer Colman's mustard on the table!

The Nags Head, Belgravia

Hard one to find the first time. Very charming older pub hidden back in the mews with good Adnams on. Friendly bar maids too. There was a treasure hunt going on while we were there which was pretty funny to observe. Got to watch the cell phone enforcement in effect... very nice...

The Royal Oak, Borough

This was the second pub we hit on our Saturday night crawl with RobBeer. What a nice place. It looked like it's been around forever, so I was surprised to read that it was fairly new in the g0od pub guide. We had the mild, pale ale, and best bitter that I remember. All were in great condition and tasted wonderful! We also ate a late dinner here. My wife had a sandwich which was huge and I had a delicious pie as well. This place is well worth checking out or adding to a pub crawl if you're on the south side. It's not far from many of the other places one would be checking out (market porter, rake, etc.)

The White Horse, Parsons Green

aka the Sloaney Pony. This pub is very easy to find from the Parson's Green Station, it's less than a ten minute walk too! We were staying in Fulham and this became the place we would normally stop at on the way home from other crawls/touring London. It was the first place we stopped on our Saturday night crawl. Even after a Chelsea FC match, the place was mobbed, but I found the service to be great! We had two full meals and a few cheese plates all of which were spot on. The big highlight is the interesting selection of ales they had. I tried Harvey's Sussex Bitter , Adnam's Broadside, Oakham JHB, and Rooster's Yankee all of which were Killer! When in SW6 or on the district line, make a beeline for this pub.

The Bag O' Nails, Victoria

I stopped in here after watching the Inspection of the guard which is very interesting AND there are much fewer tourists than at the actual changing of the guard which means you can get closer and take much better pictures. Anwho, while we were there, they had Youngs Ordinary, Fullers London Pride, and Deuchars IPA on cask. All were in good condition. The staff were also quite pleasant considering they probably have to deal with MANY tourists on a daily basis as this is really close to Buckingham palace. If in the area, pop in and check this one out.

St Stephens Tavern, Westminster

This was the first stop on our Sunday pub crawl/ tourist walk. It is located right next to Parliament (Big Ben End) and while crowded wasn't that bad considering one is in the middle of probably the most touristy section of London. This place practically drips atmosphere so I was surprised to here from London Porter that it had been closed for some time. They had three Badger ales on including Badger first gold, TangleFoot, and Fursty Ferret. They also had King and Barnes Sussex bitter on. All the ales were in good condition. I stopped here twice and found the staff to be friendly as well as the folks drinking in the establishment on both occasions. Again, quite surprising as they have to deal with quite a few tourists.

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

Very small bar in the front so we headed into the back. On cask, I tried the Adnams, a nice twickenham ale, and a tasty offering from Battersea. I found all ales to be in good condition. Atmosphere is funky, they do have a bunch of Shepeards Neame posters as apparently they have this on cask... It was off when we visited and the bartender turned us on to the Twickenham and battersea. Thus the good service rating. Food was average at best. What was amazing was that being under a railway arch, every time a train went over the whole place shook! I'd check it out if you're in the area, and if you don't see anything interesting move along as there are a lot of interesting places within a 15-20 minute walk.

The Mitre, Paddington

This was the mitre that I thought was ye olde mitre (LOL). This is an older corner pub in the bayswater section of London. It is a nice old school looking pub with lots of interesting paintings, a few nook and cranny style rooms, and lots of things to see. What is especially nice to see was the 5 taps of real cask ales they served. From what I remember, they were fullers, adnams, brakspear, greene king ipa, and hogsback brewery's t.e.a. I tried the brakspear, greene king, and t.e.a. and liked them all. Very tasty ales and a comfortable lounge like setting made this an enjoyable place. We stopped in for a pint, went out to dinner, and came back for a nightcap and were greeted like regulars by the very friendly bar-lady! Good stuff.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

This was the third stop on a crawl we undertook in late January. Walking in, the bar is in front of you and there was musical gear in the corner. I felt right at home and we ordered some real ales (again, what a nice selection!) that were in great condition. Will definitely be making a trip here the next time I'm in England

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

I visited here on a Pub Crawl back in late Jan. They had an astonishing amt of real ale on tap plus a good selection of bottles as I recall. This was also my 1st exposure to the wonderful products of Milton Brewery. It was a very clean (almost painfully) pub that needs a wee bit of time to get some character...
Definitely worth checking out as it was nearly empty where our group was there...
