The Castle Inn, Brenchley

A friendly pub in one of the quietest locations imaginable (in the South East at least). A great place for a relaxing lunchtime pint. Harvey's well kept, nice sandwiches and good chips!

The Dovecote, Capel

Beautiful rural pub with excellent ale selection (tried Black Sheep last time) and friendly service. Good food as well. Highly recommended.

The Cobb Arms, Lyme Regis

Great pub in a brilliant location right on the Cobb. Food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. I tried the Lyme Bay Scallops which were brilliant value for under a tenner. The portion was huge and I couldn't finish it! Crab sandwiches also highly recommended as is the Copper Ale.

The Kingfisher, Colyton

Oh dear, one of the worst pub experiences I've had in years. I have popped into this place when on holiday in East Devon and in the past it's been fine for lunch and a pint. This year though, the lunchtime meal we ordered was a disaster. We waited over 50 minutes to be served even though the pub was quite empty. We chased up the order a couple of times but weren't given any timings or explanation as to what the problem was. When the food did come out, the mushroom stroganoff was off, the mushrooms old and rancid. By way of compensation we were offered more of the same which we declined. When I asked why there was a delay with the food, we were told that everything was cooked to order but seeing that the other dishes we ordered were on the specials board (e.g. liver and bacon), surely they should have anticipated what people would order and planned their timings accordingly? The worst thing was that we were offered no apologies or compensation. In fact there was a complete air of indifference which frankly explained a lot as the staff looked as fed up as we were. How this place got into the CAMRA guide is beyond me (the ale was nothing special) but needless to say I won't be going there again.
