The Duck and Drake, Leeds

I was in the duck and drake last night for the first time since january, and was very pleased, the pub has had a good clean up but thankfully kept its old fashioned style, it was very busy which is encouraging. Im sure this pub has one of the biggest choices of real ale in leeds, i cant think of many that offer more apart from the terrible wetherspoons, old peculier was of top form, great to see a good old pub fighting back against the horrendous wine bars.

The Three Tuns, York

Another of yorks great pubs, good choice of ale, full of old character and charm, well kept pub and well worth a visit, just be careful of the low ceiling!.

The Corner Pin, York

Great back street pub with a good choice of real ale, half of the pub has been turned into a restaurant now, still has good old york pub charm though.

The Stone Roses Bar, York

The place is full of people with bad attitudes so its quite ironic considering its name. Ok if you want to pretend to be ian brown and pay 3 quid for an alcopop.

The Elephant and Castle, Wakefield

A well located pub near the train station as mentioned earlier. Looks amazing outside and is as good inside, loads of charm and atmosphere, and a great pint of ale. Just as a pub should be.

The Craven, Skipton

Nice pub right next door to the railway, 2 large rooms with bar at the end of corridor. Only a small choice of ale tho, a friendly pub worth a pint.

The Railway Inn, Skipton

Great old fashioned pub on corner of a busy junction, well preserved inside with little done to damage the pubs interior, great pint of tetleys too. well worth a visit.

Fox & Newt, Leeds

Went in sat 12 th dec, the pub was quiet which was a shame but its a bit of walk from civilastion so i wonder if it struggles to get custom. Dont let that put you off tho as its a great old type pub and brews its own beer, i had a pint of fox pale which went down very well. This pub used to be known as the rutland hotel until a gas explosion in the 1970s nearly flattened it. The pub has had a few revamps over the years and the lastest has been a great job done and hasnt taken any of the pubs character away. I hope this place survives these difficult times for pubs as its one of the few remaining left on the edge of the city centre that are worth visiting.

The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

This is one of the best pubs in leeds in my opinion, there is always a wide range of quality ales on offer, the interior is fantastic and is a great example of victorian decor. This is another pub that was destined for demolition in the 1970s but was thankfully saved. The pub is usually busy and always has a good friendly atmosphere. The manager is also a great asset to the pub as he is one the most friendliest ive met, he always has time for his customers and he helps create the good atmosphere in the pub, he also serves a good pint too which is a bonus!.

Whitelocks, Leeds

I have been coming in this pub for well over ten years and have always had a passion for the pub, the beer is good and the interior is absolutely amazing. The bar and the tiled walls are an amazing sight and there isnt many pubs like this left, however the landlady and staff have a TERRIBLE attitude which is very disappointing and im afraid to say i will NEVER step back into this pub until the present management vacate.

The Crown and Anchor, Manchester

I have mixed opinions on this place, it has a great choice of ales, but the decor is a little too modern for me. I never went in before it had a refit so cant comment on it before but it left me wondering has a good old pub been butchered? Bouncers on the door at 3pm in the afternoon is a little off putting too. Worth a visit but just for the ale.

12 Dec 2009 10:10

The Old Wellington Inn, Manchester

Ive been here a few times and its always packed to the rafters, sat 5th dec was no different. Always a good pint and good atmosphere.

12 Dec 2009 10:03

The English Lounge, Manchester

Went it sat 5th dec and thought it was a bit poncy, i wonder has it been an old pub modernised. The pub was busy with saturday shoppers and the beer was ok.

12 Dec 2009 09:59

The Unicorn, Manchester

sat 5th dec early afternoon, the pub was quite busy with shoppers etc, this was my first visit and wont be the last. A great pint of guinness and a great atmosphere. splendid!!!!!!!

11 Dec 2009 21:46

Templar Hotel, Leeds

I have to say this is one of my favorite pubs ( its certainly in the top 5) and go in here at least once a week, a proper pub, always a good pint and always busy. we have seen this type of pub rapidly vanish off the map but fingers crossed the templar is here to stay. The retro wood panels are from the 1930s i believe.

11 Dec 2009 21:41

The Town Hall Tavern, Manchester

Went in sat 5th dec, the place was busy with a good atmosphere and decent ale, the decor in the pub is very similar to the town hall tavern in leeds.

11 Dec 2009 21:33

The Sawyers Arms, Deansgate

Last time i was in this pub in july it was full of poor impressionists of liam gallagher acting like complete morons, other than that the pub is good with a decent choice of ales.

11 Dec 2009 21:29

The Highland Inn, Little Woodhouse

Another pub thats bit the dust, i have heard its going to be turned into offices, a very good old pub its original name was the highland laddie, the last remaining building from the alphabet streets, another sad day for historic pubs.

11 Dec 2009 21:24

The Royal Park, Leeds

Very busy pub with a mix of students and locals, lots of pool tables and tvs which has tainted the pub a little in my opinion. Still, its nice to see a back street pub doing well in difficuly times. I read in the local paper this is the biggest pub in leeds, dony know if its true

11 Dec 2009 18:36

Rising Sun Inn, Leeds

Sad to say this pub is now closed, apparently going to be turned into a restaurant, this pub in its day was a belter and was a proper local workers pub but towards the end just attracted riff raff and scumbags, a sign of the times and a very sad day.

11 Dec 2009 18:33

The Garden Gate, Leeds

One of the best pubs ive been in as interiors and architecture go, an absolute belter, shame about the lack of ale on offer tho. I believe it is for sale too which is quite worrying tho as its not in the best of areas. It was destined for demolition in the 70s but a local campaign saved the place ( would that happen now?) every time i go in it makes me wonder how many pubs have been lost like the garden gate down the years due to so called progress and slum clearances etc. A must for proper pub fanatics.

11 Dec 2009 18:27

The Briton's Protection Hotel, Castlefield

Great old pub and cant think of many to rival its charm and vintage interior went in twice fri 4th and sat 5th dec and both visits it was packed, has a good choice of real ales too which adds to the pubs credentials, i certainly enjoyed having a wonder around the place. Well worth the visit, nice to see another proper pub doing well.

11 Dec 2009 18:17

The City Road Inn, Manchester

Went in 3 times in 2 days as we were staying at hotel nearby, good pub with good pint of landlord, landlady was welcoming and friendly, would recommend a visit, shame the hacienda is gone opposite tho.

11 Dec 2009 18:11

The White Lion Hotel, Castlefield

Went in 5th dec, football was on the big screen so the pub was very busy, good atmosphere and good ale tho. Either i was pissed or the pub seemed to have a victorian theme which was good.

11 Dec 2009 18:07

The Commercial Hotel, Castlefield

Another great old fashioned pub, great ale and great atmosphere, nice to see a coal fire roaring away too in the back room. Seemed like a locals pub but was very welcoming.

11 Dec 2009 18:04

The Deansgate, Deansgate

I agree with the last comment, worth a visit but couldnt stay all night, good pint of ale but the loud music was a bit annoying.

11 Dec 2009 18:01

The Seven Oaks, Manchester

Went in before going for a chinese fri 4th dec, very busy pub with the after work crowd. Great pint too, again this is what a pub should be, old fashioned, good ale, good atmoshpere, how pubs used to be!

11 Dec 2009 17:58

The Sir Ralph Abercrombie, Manchester

Went in sat 5th dec 3pm and was surprisingly quiet, good pint tho.

11 Dec 2009 17:53

The Rising Sun, Manchester

Great pub sat in between some modern office buildings, great pint of copper dragon, even tho it was nearly 3 quid i would rather give my money to these places rather than a soulless wine bar. Packed to the rafters sat 5th at 4pm, good atmosphere another all round good pub.

11 Dec 2009 17:50

The Grey Horse Inn, Manchester

Another great pub which is well worth the visit, was very busy 5.00pm fri 4th dec ( standing room only), great pint as well. Good to see a PROPER public house doing well, as good as the circus tavern next door.

11 Dec 2009 17:43

The Hare and Hounds, Manchester

An absolute belter of a pub, good old fashioned pub and is well worth the visit, i could have sat there all day! A good choice of ales ( i opted for Holts original). it was around 1 o clock when we got there and there wasnt many seats left in the pub the place was very busy considering its location but that just shows the quality of the place. I felt like i was in a scene from life on mars or the sweeney! A pub i highly recommend.

9 Dec 2009 20:45

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds

Has a good choice of real ales but thats where the compliments end, the pub smells like the sewers and in the 3 years i have visited this place i have NEVER seen the landlord smile. Not an inviting pub at all, shouldnt have been voted pub of the year there is a lot better places to go in leeds city centre,.

9 Dec 2009 20:35

The Circus Tavern, Manchester

Attempted to visit fri 4th dec, the doors were locked, went back sat 5th at dinner time and the barman informed us the doors get locked when the pub is too busy. This is another fine example of what a public house should be! Apparently its the smallest bar in europe, i opted for a pint of tetleys ( there is only 4 pumps at the bar), the pub soon started to fill up and the pub had a great old pub atmosphere, there is loads of intresting pictures of celebrities and locals that use the pub, barman was also very accomodating and friendly and made us very welcome, overall an excellent pub

9 Dec 2009 20:30

The Peveril Of The Peak, Castlefield

we visited this place twice ( fri 4th and sat 5th), and really enjoyed it! This pub is a must for real ale and good old fashioned pub fanatics. Both visits the place was very busy and had a good atmosphere, also with a good choice of ales, ( i opted for tiger ale). I wanted to visit this pub for a long time and it was well worth the visit. If i was to own a pub this would be the kind of place i would want.
