The Dickleburgh Crown, Dickleburgh

We popped in to the Dickleburgh Crown as we were passing through and decided to stay for lunch. The pub had a good atmosphere, service was without fault and the real ale was in excellent condition and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. A delicious steak cooked exactly as requested and some fine seafood.

The Orange Tree, Chelmsford

An enjoyable beer, or two I have enjoyed here at one of Chelmsford's very decent "real ale" pubs. The Mighty Oak beers were in tip top condition and went down a treat.

The Queen's Head, Chelmsford

A good welcome and pint of beer in a very pleasant pub. Enjoyed the Crouch Vale offerings and would include this pub as being one of the best in Chelmsford.

The Woolpack, Chelmsford

This is one of the best town centre pubs in Chelmsford. Its beers are excellent, and enjoyed the St Edmund. The bar staff are friendly and there is good banter. It deserves its accolade as Chelmsford CAMRA Pub of the year 2010.

O'Connors, Chelmsford

Good pub atmosphere and a decent pint of Youngs. If you enjoy sport then you are catered for with coverage of the major sporting events of the day.

The White Hart Inn, Margaretting Tye

Have been here several times and the beer is always perfect. Enjoyed a lunchtime session and the Mighty Oak, Oscar Wilde was very quaffable. Its good to see that the pub serves a number of other offerings from Essex breweries. My favourite pub in the Chelmsford area and lovely location. All the bar staff are friendly.

The Alma, Chelmsford

Enjoyed a very good pint of Broadside here. Also had Adnams bitter on draught. Booked a table in the restaurant and were very pleased with the food, good portions, well presented and quality was excellent. The manager and bar staff were attentive and provided a good service throughout the evening. We will be back!

Mabel's Tavern, Euston

Stumbled on this place one day after work when I had some time to spare before meeting a friend. Thought it was unusual to find a Shep's pub in this neck of the woods. Enjoyed a couple of beers and thought the atmosphere was pleasant enough. Beer quality was good and will certainly consider returning to try out the food. Good pub away from the madness and claustrophobic establishments of the Tottenham Court Road area.

The Somerstown Coffee House, Euston

Good atmosphere on each visit. Enjoyed the food and the bar staff were consistently good. Tables cleaned down on a regular basis throughout the evening. Infact the last visit the bar staff who waited on our table were excellent. Decent pub cum restaurant that is my opinion worth a return visit. As with any establishment of this nature its good to see the toilet facilities in good order as well. Cannot fault it so it gets a perfect 10 from me!

The Black Buoy, Wivenhoe

Dear Mr Lehovel, Staff not paying attention? Get off the high horse and be a bit more tolerant. Just remember its brim glass measures for a pint of beer, or have not you been paying attention? Lets think about the physics of serving up a full measure in such a glass and getting it on the bar to the customer without spilling it? Have you ever served in a bar? Within acceptable tolerances, sheer logic tells us that, you are going to be extremely lucky to get a full 20fl ozs of imperial measure in the standard issue brim measure beer glass used in the UK. My suggestion is take a sup and hand it back for a top up with a smile, it helps :)) , and you might be surprised at what you get! If your still not happy suggest you ask the landlord to consider purchasing some of the over sized line measure glasses.

The Black Buoy, Wivenhoe

In respect of the last posting by the brave "anonymous", one word sums up your comments. That word is rubbish. I have been going to this pub for over 8 years. The current landlord, landlady and staff have never refused a top up and when requested it is always given with good grace. The ales are not poorly kept and for the area are not over priced. I eat here on a regular basis and the food is fresh, correctly cooked and well presented. If you think the food is mediocre I suggest that you get in the kitchen yourself and show us how its done! If things were so bad why didn't you complain? Man, or mouse?

Seans Bar, Athlone

The Guinness is excellent. It is the oldest pub in Ireland and it was my grandad's favourite in Athlone. The courtyard leads out to the River Shannon and has a good view. From time to time live music is played. Only problem is the gombeens who love to talk over the top of some beautiful singing and good traditional music.

Woodies, New Malden

Its a great pub. Enjoyed it when Pete ran it. Holds a lot of fond memories, the quiz notes were entertaining. Could never understand how the team finishing fourth won the quiz but what the hell the beer and company were fantastic. Must get back some time soon.

The Brazen Head, Glasgow

An excellent pub where you are made to feel welcome by the staff and clients alike. It is a great Cetic pub so it helps if you wear a green and white scarf. Great live music on Saturday's.

The Doric Arch, Euston

Used to like this pub for its good ale and proximity to Euston. However, frequented by very rude clientele and not helped by the bar staff who do little to discourage anti-social behaviour by middle aged men who should have a modicum of manners.

The Playhouse, Colchester

Get in early and out early to avoid the "loud mouthed can't carry the drink brigade" who unfortunately frequent this pub along with the resident barflys. When will they get rid of the former and the latter? Typical Wetherspoon's establishment good quality beer at cheap prices. Breakfasts are good value but watch out for the missing sausage on the traditional breakfast.

8 Oct 2004 15:36

Molly Malones, Colchester

Used to be ok for a swift Guinness before getting the train. It is now a truly dreadful establishment. Last time I was here the bar maid baited a customer who was worse for drink into losing his temper and then called the police to throw him out.
