King William IV, Ewell

Things must have changed a lot since the last reviewer: it is now (June 09) a sophisticated wine bar eaterie type place. After being in all of the pubs and bars in the Ewell village area (in 09), this is by far the smartest, even though prices are the same.

It is a bar and Italian restaurant (not tried the food - but at lunch they do a reasonably priced 2 course menu option).

By the bar there is a seating area to the left, for the drinkers with draft contintenal lagers on offer. A little dark inside, but otherwise a far superior affair to the local pub efforts in the village.

The Famous Green Man, Ewell

Okay interior. Certainly not refined. Food is meant to be excellent, but yet to try it - menu is totally unispiring though: Burgers, ham egg and chips, liver and bacon etc it is certainly not pushing any boundaries.

Be warned: it plays a lot of sports, so it fills up quickly with a lot of boisterous supporters on specific days of the week.

Nice staff and plenty of seating inside and out. Outside is on a busy high street with loads of traffic though.

The Spring Tavern, Ewell

Very large pub, with plenty of atmosphere and a well kept feel about it. Food and beer here are at rock bottom prices (Fosters was 2.45 a pint in June 09, and you get 2 meals for 7 at certain days and times).

It does feel a little naf though, and although it is a wine bar meet pub, it lacks the interior decor sophistication to pull it off. A bit of a joke inside really, when compared to its Epsom cousins! Ewell village has got a far superior wine bar type pub callled the King William, which is just round the corner.

The Wheatsheaf, Ewell

A barebones type pub with a tired feel to it. Oodles of character but more ironically from the kitch bric-a-brac on display. Bright white walls and with what looks like the contents of a car boot sale on the walls.

Pluses are the nice staff though and pleasant atmosphere derived from the punters. Very small though, so you will be in the middle of trouble if it ever brewd up.

The Marquis of Granby, Epsom

Great pub, and great atmosphere. The most refined of the town centre pubs in Epsom and definitely worth a visit. Menu resembles a Gastro pub, and the pub itself is cavernous inside with lots of character and seating. European premium lagers on tap and a good wine list.

The Barley Mow, Epsom

Nice pub inside with a friendly atmosphere. Refurb has made the place look great. It has a good selection of beers and wines, and the beer garden is large and well laid out.
