The Harp, Covent Garden

Second visit under the new regime and a marked deterioration in the beers. Slightly flat slightly sour Harveys , an aging Golden Ale and even the Pride wasn't optimal . None of them bad enough to return but there we have it : Binnie has left the building . In only a couple of months the Harp has become an average pub selling averagely kept ales.

Ye Olde White Bear, Hampstead

lovely pub sadly underused : ales usually decent , staff friendly . Food is lowest common denominator stuff . There's fast food in the high street and nice restaurants all around so they have to work out what to do with their kitchen . Can backstreet pubs like this survive without being outstandingly good at everything they do ? Squeezed by the Hamilton and the Wells : would you walk past either of those to get to the Bear ?

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

beautiful pub to be in : should be listed really in case some property developers get their hands on it. Good smattering of tourists both sides of the bar . Ales not always reliable.

The Harp, Covent Garden

just a perfect London pub ; small range of expertly kept ales, friendly service . Gets a bit packed because there's no real competition anywhere close . Sausage sandwiches available if you're starved.
