Royal Oak, Edinburgh

Great pub only after 11/midnight though, and a good mix a people, and music.

Robertsons Bar, Edinburgh

Sport screens, decent bar, generally a bar in a pub, only seating is really at the bar, but good .

The Oxford Bar, Edinburgh

Good pub, but seriously too small to be named as a classic or favorite. Toilets are a disaster, pies are good, would spend maybe a few hours, but not an evening (sorry) .

Milnes Bar, Edinburgh

Not a bad pub, you can always get a chat, and if you are lucky could be a memorable night. Good mix of locals with strangers. Bad points, lack of staff, too much food being served so service is slow, and yes this was a great place in the late 80/early 90's

Jinglin' Geordie, Edinburgh

Good pub, smoking area outside (covered). Proper bar, but sometimes they don't get the right staff.

Leslies Bar, Edinburgh

Good pub, proper clientle, what a good pub should be, friendly and knowledgeable.

Kildares, Edinburgh

No way, okay place, nothing special. Southside bar

The Dagda Bar, Edinburgh

Nothing special, and the name of the pub is not good (people say where is that again?). Small, and feels cold, but excellent beers.

The Auld Toll Bar, Edinburgh

Good summer bar with beer garden.

The Antiquary, Edinburgh

Good bar in the Late 80's, not now though.

The Flattie Bar, Stromness

Not a bad pub, although no cider on draught, or card transactions (so cash only), and if you go outside for smoking, guard your drink. Great fire, but my partner felt it was a bit too scruffy, and that wasn't the decor.

The Ferry Inn, Stromness

Best pub in Orkney (Stromness, Kirkwall), easily better than any of the pubs in Kirkwall. Has a divided area for drinking and eating. It is dark, but friendly enough
Also had a evening in the Stromness hotel, which although is bright and airy is grotty in comparison.

The West End Hotel, Kirkwall

Nothing special, more a hotel than a pub.

The Bothie Bar, Kirkwall

Tried this pub after the Motor hoose. It is a bigger place (busier) with a large food menu. It burnt down a few years ago, so as you can imagine, very limited in character. I was told this is the best pub in Kirkwall- nothing special.

The Auld Motor Hoose, Kirkwall

Warm place, small with plenty seating outside. I would suggest that it is nothing special though, would not go out my way to go there. If you are looking for an old traditional pub with plenty character, well this is definitely not the place for you.
