The Hollybush Inn, Makeney

Visited this pub in October for the beer festival so a late review but important to do so. Without doubt one of the BEST pubs I have ever visited. Lovely selection of different areas for having a drink, plus a snug which is outstanding. For those of you who know the Low House snug at Laxfield,Suffolk, the one here is even better. Very friendly landlord and friendly locals who are clearly very proud of THEIR pub and so they should be. Beer and choice excellent when we visited as was the food. Even great pubs have off days so ignore any average reviews as this is one of the great pubs of England that expats drool over and foreigners would think is oh so English. ps if you are lucky a local music man quietly but brilliantly entertains if asked and so adds to the overall character. Ask to hear the pub song. A first ten out of ten for me on this site

The Star Inn, Wenhaston

Visited their beer festival 24 may. BF run the way a proper one should be. Lovely selection of beers and ciders, good tasting notes and offered a proper glass in preference to a plastic one. Pub landlord and landlady very welcoming. A lovely rural pub with clearly well kept beer. Food also looked excellent. This is clearly a great find and we would strongly recommend it.

The Butt and Oyster, Chelmondiston

Beautiful location but be prepared to be pay for it !!!!!! Over £2 for a small coke, beer low abv 3.75 and then upwards. On our experience avoid the sandwiches.huge slabs of bRead with little or no filling. Rip off Britain at pAly here.

The Pigs Nose, East Prawle

Visited in February. Without doubt one of the great pubs of England. First class landlord and friendly locals. If you like bland theme pubs or big brewery pubs, dont visit. If you like a unique pub that is a beacon of what pubs once were and should be.....then visit. If landlord goes it will never be the same so don't miss it !

The Triangle Tavern, Lowestoft

What is going on here ? Lt couple of times pub stank to high heaven and three different green jack beers all bland and flat. Someone needs to get a grip fast !

Sailors Home, Kessingland

6 beers on gravity. All at perfect temperature.A further four on handpumb.A wonderfull selection of East Anglian and further afield beers.A knowledgable landlord committed to real ale and friendly locals. Cannot understand why it is not in the good beer guide when some other local pubs who are in the guide serve such a bland selection of beers and often at much lower temperature than should be the case.Local camra seem to have there firm favourite pubs and base their selection on a whole host of issues with beer quality down the list. Take my suggestion and visit this pub right by the sea. a very happy customer

The Mariners Rest, Lowestoft

The Jolly Sailors, Pakefield

Lovely refurbishment and wonderful views.....but oh dear, the beer !!! Had a pint of trawlerboys the other night which was served at probably the coldest temperature I have ever had a beer served at. Was even colder than my son's lager ! If they are going to serve real ale then it really needs to be served near the proper temperature if they are going to attract those who like real ale.

Sailors Home, Kessingland

Been using this a lot lately.Very friendly landlord and staff and a lot of beer on gravity in superb condition on every visit. Beers have varied from Wolf to abbot reserve to Humpty Dumpty. Without a doubt the best beer in and around Lowestoft at present.

The Triangle Tavern, Lowestoft

Visited three times over the last three weeks and very disappointing. Beer on each occasion came out near enough chilled, for older people remember Ice Cold In Alex and you have got the picture. With friends on each occasion so tried several beers and all the same cold temperature. One of my friends likes his beer slightly cool but it was even too cold for him.As a result all beers lacked taste until warmed up by hand..If it had been cold out fair enough but the weather was mild ! Has been a mecca for real ale drinkers but will be in danger if it continues to serve beers as cold as it has been doing.

The Mariners Rest, Lowestoft

Made a number of visits to this pub since the start of the year.Have drank beer here from all corners of the UK and all pints, straight from the barrels, have been in superb condition and temperature. Am amazed that the pub has not won more awards. Does the local camra branch have other favourites I wonder ? Strange if it does as no pub in Lowestoft, including the Triangle where I had an off pint recently, seems to serve such a great variety of beers, let alone from the barrel.Have raised my rating to a 9 .OUTSTANDING AND FRIENDLY

The Queens Head, Newton

The welcome this visit was as cold as the inside of the pub. Beer was poor as well.Hope this pub isn't sitting on its laurels as use to be good. However, coldest welcome and service in a pub in years !

The Green Dragon, Bungay

First class pub.On every visit beer brewed in back of pub been superb. Chaucer beer at 3.7 served at 2.30 a pint. A dark mild 5.5 served from barrel at 2.70.Would strongly recommend.

The Pigs Nose, East Prawle

Visited this pub on a cold and wet Tuesday night this week. All I can say is one of the best pubs I have ever been in.South Hams beers straight from the barrel. All in superb condition and perfect temperature.Landlord very friendly and welcoming. The pub interior is one of the most characterful I have ever been in,an old smugglers inn.Adults, children and dogs(there is a dog menu!) will love it..I won't say more but go see yourself.I have been visiting pubs for just over 36 years. Put simply, this is one of the best I have ever been to. Go visit as if this ever goes you are unlikely to find similar or better.

The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden

A rare gem, a country pub which is unspoilt, always has great beers, as well as getting a warm welcome from the landlord and locals. A bit of a time capsule really, but in the nicest way. No gastro trendy pub here or themes. Just a country pub that allows you to relax and enjoy your time there at a different pace to these modern times. In summary, BLISS.
