The Fox And Hounds, South Godstone

Not impressed at all! Called in for lunch for the first time in over a year and were welcomed very nicely and shown to our table with our drinks. After half an hour a gentleman came to take our order and informed us that because everything was cooked fresh it would be a while before we got our two meals. That was fine so we ordered garlic bread to nibble on whilst we waited. Another half hour went by and we got the bread. We then waited a further hour to get luke warm meals served on cold plates. No explanation was given when we asked where our food was but by some miracle it appeared within minutes of asking. (obviously had been sat in the kitchen waiting for ages to be served) Nobody came to ask if our food was okay and nobody brought the mustard which was politely requested. Needless to say we didn't want another hour waiting for desserts and coffees nor did we want to hang around to pay so we went to the bar to pay our bill. If only the man at the bar had not made the foolish mistake of asking if we had enjoyed our meal! NO WE DIDN'T was our reply. He wanted to know what was wrong so we told him. With this he knocked off the bill one of the meals but we still didn't really get an apology. The dining room was not all that busy when we arrived at 12.30 and there were a few other tables all complaining. Loads of good pubs in this area so think they should buck their ideas up. We won't be going again and certainly will not recommend to friends and family. Would have given it a 0 rating but had to give 2 just for location and quaintness.

The Bell Inn, Outwood

Had lunch here last week and found it to be much more welcoming than others had led me to expect. The food was good and well presented, plenty of choice on the menu including smaller portions which is great if you don't have a large appetite. The bar staff were very nice and extremely helpful. I didn't think it was over priced in comparison with other pubs in the area, all of which I have lunched at with friends. I would go again for sure. Plenty of car parking bays to the rear of a very attractive pub with nice area outside half of which was covered which helps if you fancy sitting outside and not sure what our weather is going to do.

The Snowdrop, Lindfield

Called in with an old friend today and we both enjoyed our lunch. The pub was beautifully clean which we both commented upon. Staff were very welcoming and very helpful. The lunch time menu didn't have a great deal of choice but what we had was cooked and presented nicely. I had no idea this place existed until I saw it in LIVING magazine and am now glad I found it down a little country lane. I will definitely go back again to see what is on the evening menu. Car park at the rear and flat easy access for my elderly friend made it a very good choice all round.

The Red Lion, Bletchingley

My husband and I enjoyed a really good roast lunch here today. The staff were all very nice and the atmosphere was very welcoming. A good and varied menu at reasonable prices.I'm not a beer drinker but my husband said there was a good choice. Nice big car park at the back but still not enough spaces for the busy Sunday trade so many cars were out on the road in the front. Goes to show it is popular and certainly worth a visit. The pub itself had lots of character and was spotlessly clean in comparison to a few I've been in of late. So I hope to go again soon but will remember to reserve a table as I'd hate to be turned away.

The Frogshole Farm, Maidenbower

Met a friend here for lunch. I was so glad it wasn't half term as it was bad enough getting around the mothers with buggies in the restaurant. There are signs asking parents to keep their children under control but you can't stop young babies screaming whilst you are downing your wine I guess. All that being said I would go back as the staff were nice and the food was good. Very reasonable prices and I picked up a diamond card, which gives a discount to those over 50. With a little cooperation from young parents this could be a great place to go.

White Hart, Godstone

We find this place very convenient to meet friends just off the motor way. We also call in for Sunday lunch every couple of months after visiting family in Surrey. Even used the pub for pre Christmas get together. However it seems to be going down hill regarding the food service. Food is either under or over cooked, sometimes hot sometimes not. My son had ants in his coke last summer which was a bit off putting. I hope they get their act together soon as it would be a shame to wipe them off our list of places to to eat and meet up with friends and family. This week we went a few miles down the road to Bletchingley and found a really nice place for not much more price wise. A few extra 's was well worth it. Come on Beef eater you are loosing customers.

Whyte Harte Hotel, Bletchingley

We went today for a change. Our first visit in over 20 years and will be returning again very soon. We had roast venison which was served with four different veg all cooked to perfection. The puddings were also nice but a bit more choice would have been a bonus. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, yet not in your face which is nice if you just want to be left alone. One little fault and it is only a little one, it was a bit cold in the restaurant due to no fire and the radiator by our table was stone cold. On the whole I would highly recommend a visit to this charming village and hotel.

The Griffin Inn, Fletching

I took my brother here for lunch. He was visiting our country from Austalia and thought the prices were a little steep considering other good pubs we had visited. The food was good but if I order an Eton Mess I think that perhaps raspberries and not strawberries should be served. Not to worry my brother enjoyed the gardens and his beer. He only comes to England every 10-15 years so it is worth overspending. I won't be visiting again at those sorts of prices.

The Plough, Dormansland

I took three of my brothers here for a meal last week. The staff are friendly and joked with my Australian relatives as if they had known them for years. Good food and beer and very warm atmostphere. I will be back soon for sure.

The Wiremill, Lingfield

I've been here lots of times in the past 30 years but must say this pub is well worth a visit now that it has changed hands. In the last month I have taken visitors from Australia and USA and they have all fallen for its charm. Plus the staff here are so friendly that one of my visitors insisted on returning before he left England. Good food and beer, nice surroundings and a warm welcome everytime.

The Harrow Inn, Caterham

Went to the pub on 22nd taking with me three brothers who had arrived from Australia and USA. I must say I have been before and wanted to show my visitors some of their old haunts. The food was terrible, (one burger was not cooked through hence blood when bitten into, it was returned to the poor over worked barman and returned to my brother re cooked)I think an offer of another burger might have been prefered. The ham egg and chips was good but sandwiches were nothing to write home about and therefore not eaten. Apart from that the beer was good and the staff tried their best. It's a shame they had to keep telling us they were under staffed though. Nop I won't return for a while as it has put me off.

The William IV, Bletchingley

I'm so glad I chose to take a friend here for lunch today.I had read other peoples comments and thought I'd try to find it. What a warm welcome from the new owners sister. We lunched in the garden and the food was splendid and not over priced. I noticed also on Tuesday and Wednesdays they serve pensioners lunch for 5, well worth taking some seniors for a treat. I will be back and hope others find this little gem.

The Wheatsheaf, Bough Beech

Called in with a client after a meeting. Good food and friendly staff. One downer was I felt it could have been a bit cleaner but it might have been the fact there was a hale storm outside making the pub very dark inside. Quaint pub with lots of history. Might return if I'm in the area as the garden looked welcoming.

The Bottle House, Penshurst

Took a friend here today for lunch. Found the menu a bit much but once we had decided on our choice the food was first class. Staff were very helpfull and friendly. I would return to this nice old pub with other friends who want to get away from the rat race. Just perfect! Not at all like the Rovers return, it was charming and so were the people.

Turners, Turners Hill

It seems this pub is closed!!!! We used to eat here from time to time.

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

This pub has just re-opened after a refurbishment and it certainly looked nice as we entered after almost 3 years of staying away from the scruffy olds pub. We ate there and the fish and chips was super, if only they didn't serve it on top of rocket(not nice having hot lettuce leaves). We didn't find the staff very friendly though the service was good.Food prices are a little high so wouldn't take the family there.

The Ardingly Inn, Ardingly

Went there for lunch today. Food was brilliant all veg were fresh and presented well. 8.85 for a Sunday lunch which filled the plate. Nice friendly staff, very welcoming. Only downer was the furniture looked a bit tatty and it could all do with freshening up as you might think it was dirty.
