The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

I recently went back to this pub after a considerable absence and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The landlord seems to have found a happy balance (which was not there when I last visited) between a village pub and a good quality restaurant. Lots of locals drinking in the bar and lots of non-locals eating in the other rooms (and thereby providing the profits to enable the locals to keep on drinking). Good beer, good laugh, excellent food. This one is back on my list.

The William Bray , Shere Guildford Surrey

My first visit to this pub a few evenings ago. Excellent meal - all 3 courses were brilliant. The beer was OK (Surrey Hills brewery) but really this is a top-notch food venue and I wouldn't recommend going for a booze-up.

The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

I used to be a regular here (see 13 July 2008 comment) until it changed from a village pub to a "Volvo and Audi destination". Last Thursday, being out for a stroll in the lovely Sussex countryside, I arrived at Lurgashall at about 3.10 pm and noticed a sign outside bearing the magic words "Open all day" and the lights were on in the bar. Thinking to let bygones be bygones, I decided to call in for a couple of pints. Unfortunately the barman had other ideas - "Sorry mate we're just closing". "But you've got a sign outside saying open all day". "Oh yes - that ended last week - forgot to take it down".
Never, never again!
The barman was however kind enough to offer me a lift to the Hollist Arms in Lodsworth - a proper pub, open all day.

The Three Compasses, Alfold

This pub is a gem. The beer is first class and the locals very kind indeed. I didn't try the food but it looked good and was cheap compared to nearby competitors - they even had pre-prepared rolls available from the bar (we all remember that, don't we, until 'Elf & Safety took over). I will certainly be going back.

The Sun Inn, Dunsfold

I called in to the Sun today hoping I might catch Biker, Simonkey7 and Cloverfield having a toe-to-toe, but instead of that I had a very pleasant pint or four of Harveys (I wasn't driving) and a chat with some friends. An excellent local pub - I only wish I lived nearer (my local is the Noah's Ark in Lurgashall - used to be a good local too, some years ago). I don't know what the beer in the Sun cost, Biker, but it was worth it.

The Hollist Arms, Lodsworth

I love the Hollist - the staff are always so friendly and welcoming, the beer is top notch and the food is as good as you can get in these parts. A good old English village pub. What's wrong with it? It's too far away for anything other than an occasional visit.

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

Wonderful "proper pub". I wish I lived near enough for it to be my local. Excellent beers, food and staff. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Sometimes they get some odd "amateur" customers (see 2006 review) but not too often.

The Keepers Arms, Trotton

The food in this pub is quite excellent. Nice people and good ale too. Well worth a visit.

The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

This used to be a classic village pub but all its character has gone along with most of the locals. It's now just a typical suburban winebar. The present tenants even threw out the dart board! What a shame.
