The Crown, St Margarets

Pub re-opened after refurb. Service good, the creche aspect has gone, but 12 quid for a burger; I must be missing something!
Good choice of bitters, I have to say and it does seem well run.

Ye Olde Kings Head, Epsom

I like this pub. It's not the cheapest but the beers are well kept and the food is excellent. Slightly out of town but worth the walk.

I'm with Claire..........it was the scummiest pub in Epsom. Unfortunately, the clientele have moved over the road to the Wetherspoons. You'll need ear defenders.

The Crown, St Margarets

Still closed and not much sign of activity. Yes the choice of dark battleship grey with white trim for the outside was er......interesting. Sadly the creche aspect has moved to the Turk's.

St Margarets Tavern, St Margarets

Having been a vociferous critic of this pub over recent years, I can assure you that there has been a considerable improvement of late, primarily because of a major change in personnel. No, it's not the cheapest, (but where is around here?) but the fact you can get served within the hour by staff who are actually paying attention to the punters.................
Good atmosphere as well, now. Unable to comment on food.

The Turks Head, St Margarets

It looks like a Pub from the outside, but you will be sorely disappointed inside, unless you like expensive and poncy. Yes, the previous regime had customer service issues, but the beer was good and the place was a local street pub. There appears to have been a serious change of policy, to the detriment of pub users.

Guinness AND Murphy's! Spoilt for choice and good prices too.

There's a difference between allowing children and allowing children to run wild!
Actually, the lunchtime food is good but take ear defenders.

The pub is listed here as closed.......................sadly, it isn't.

The Old Ship, Richmond

Went in recently one evening with friends. Ordered some chips and sour cream dressing.
Got single cream. Suggested this was not the best combination, got more single cream.
Left.

St Margarets Tavern, St Margarets

Don't take these comments seriously!!!! (see above).
The management should. The food is inedible, especially for the price. The service is crap and if were anywhere else in the area, it would have closed by now. It's only its location that is the redeemer. You can see The Crown down the road, or find the Turk's Head, both less than mile away.

Has become the best pub in the local area (again). Stonking evening atmosphere and the fact that the staff from the pub nearby drink here tells you a great deal about this one. Good cold Guinness and lagers. Not an ale drinker myself, so don't know.

The Turks Head, St Margarets

Relative absence of children (see The Crown nearby). Beers really cold, lagers and Guinness that is; don't know about the ales.
Again, food seems good and varied. Has outside seating, but is next to infants' school which can damage hearing at lunchtime! This pub's alright.

With reference to review below, strongarm is right. Place can turn into a noisy creche VERY quickly, with scant consideration or acknowledgement of non-parents who are now almost an inconvenience.
On the other hand, food is good, beer is good and cold.

It is nice to read how a pub has turned round. I look forward to trying it again.

The Marquis of Granby, Epsom

Good pub atmosphere, different range of beers, prices high for a (social) reason.

The Cricketers, Epsom

Reasonable choice of beers, held at low prices (as of writing). You probably wouldn't go there otherwise. Hired staff are good laugh, though. No cellar, so beers not always COLD enough, Mr.Evans. Justifiably popular in summertime

Rugby Pub!! Locals only. They'd still be smoking if they could. Politely, in need of renovation. Don't bother.

Beer's OK. Service was OK. Smoking at the bar(!!) Actually, smoking everywhere.
Didn't get to the food, delays were too long. There seemed an awful lot of microwaves in the kitchen. "Food all day" but when there's a 45-60 miniute delay, it means you're not actually serving food. This at 18:00 on a Thursday, and they're "serving" 'till 21:30, it said on the door!
If there was any competition, I'd go there, not here.
If there was a no-smoking area, I didn't find it.

Oh Dear! It's like stepping back in time 10 years. If you don't smoke, don't bother. Ashtrays like sea anenomes on the bar. The 6 people in there chain-smoking away. What ARE they going to do next year?!
I gather there will be new management soon. In the meantime, go to The Ship.
This as of October 2006
