The Maltings, York

Fabulous little pub with an excellent array of real ales, ciders and interesting wines. I enjoyed a mulled cider which certainly warmed the cockles. The food is also superb VFM. A must visit for anyone going to York.

The White Hart, Tongham

New owners have gone in and so far the place looks good. Keeping the real ale going in the pub and re-introducing food 12-3 and 5-9 with roast dinners 12-4 on a Sunday.
Good luck to Chris, Vikki and Mike - hope you can bring the customers back to the pub and get it back to the heart of the village it once was.

The Hole in The Wall, Southsea

Fantastic little pub. What it lacks in size it makes up for in being just so lovely!!! Lots of real ales on tap and, although there were none available when I went, I was assured that cider on tap was also more often than not an option.
A real find and must visit for all real ale enthusiasts.

The Golden Lion, Aldershot

Very nice pub, always a favourite to go to before an Aldershot match at the rec, and also to watch sky sports in. The 2 meal when bought with a drink menu is absolutely superb, and the staff are very friendly.

The Withies Inn, Compton

I came here for lunch with a large group of people. I phoned ahead a few days before to find out whether I needed to book to be told no it would be fine. On arrival I was told that this wasn't the case and the phone conversation was denied. We sat at a largish table waiting for the rest of our party to come next to a family of four on a similar sized table. Shamelessly one of the waiters announced that this family had nearly finished and we could have their table once they left, leaving the poor family feeling rushed, and me and my party very embarrassed.
The food wasn't up to much and service about on the same par.
I doubt I will be returning.

The Kings Head, Chitterne

Lovely village pub just away from the A303. Friendly welcome from the landlord. Fantastic pub grub and good real ales. Bulmers on hand pump too. Nice.

The Head of the River, Oxford

Not a bad place to go - nice to sit by the river. Bar seemed a bit small though when taking account of the size of the place. Maybe I missed one....

The White Horse, Oxford

Lovely little boozer, although emphasis on the little! Good range of real ale, and Wychwood's Green Goblin cider available in bottles - fantastic!!
Didn't try the food but it looked good.

The Turf Tavern, Oxford

The pub is a very popular place to go in Oxford and provides a good range of real ales and very reasonably priced and excellently cooked meals. Be careful though that you don't get short changed on your pint, mine was missing a considerable amount from the top!
Gets very busy especially on sunny days and if you are in a big party, arrive early as the staff don't like you moving the tables around outside.
Having said that though, I would certainly return if in the city.

The Florence Arms, Southsea

A real find, this pub has two main rooms. One is kept fairly traditional - nice and quiet, whereas the other has a jukebox and pool table available. One of the best features about this place is the vast range of cider. 50 varieties are on sale with a knowledgeable landlord on hand to talk you through them all. A must for all cider lovers.

The White Hart, Tongham

Since moving to the area, this pub has gone under new management. The current owners are very friendly and the locals welcoming. Pub grub is available 7 days a week 12-3 and 6-9 and is cooked in a 4 star kitchen (from the local council inspectors). There are 7 hand pumps with usualy at least 4 real ales and a scrumpy on regularly. A pool table and dart board are available as well as a decent out door area with heat lamps and gazebo for slightly chillier evenings!
