Visited last night -first visit for a long time - good selection of beer and very helpful barman who let me sample some of the ales before choosing. Quite impressed, this is a much better pub now than it used to be.

Excellent local pub. Youngs ales well kept. Much better since the refurb, and now has really good food at lunchtimes,

Given its location in the centre of touristown, this pub manages quite well to to keep its charactor and a mainly local trade. Food is OK, and at reasonable prices.

I hear this is closing. More profit for the PubCo to sell to developers - but one less pub for the locals.

The Bunch Of Grapes, Knightsbridge
A traditionalfriendly London pub in an area dominated by tourist or designer bars

Excellent village pub with a great range of unusual -but good- beers straight from the barrel. The Hipdipper was excellent. The only problem was that I could not sample them all as the only way to get here is by car.

Still a good pub, but why have the tables on the upstairs balcony been replaced with silly bar stools that look like they are from a 1970's nightclub. These tables where the most popular spot in the house, today they were empty.

A cosy place on the top of the Edge. Excellent local beer from Storm of Macclesfield plus Daniel Thwaites. Good Sunday roast as well. I am not a local in this area, so they were new beers for me.

Have used this pub occaisionally for years, it was always OK, but a bit run down. Since the refurb it is excellent, a proper local pub with good beer and a friendly atmosphere. So much better than the trendy chain pubs that dominate in this area. The new little garden is an extra bonus (if we ever get some sunshine)

Good traditional pub, of which few now remain in the City. It is so refreshing to get a friendly smile and welcome from the landlady, Kira, rather than the glum 'I done care' approach from the East European staff that prevails at most pubs in this area.
Always a choice of good choice of ales, given its small size, and they are always well kept.
The only downside is that you cannot drink too much ale here - you would not make it down the tricky staircase to the gents!

Much better since Fullers took it over. Have lived close to this pub for years and never used it as it was so bad. Lets see if the new standards can be maintained

Pleasant pub with a good choice of beers. First pint was cloudy (end of barrel), but changed without any question. Food is very good quality - but at a price to match.

Looks more a restaurant than a pub in its style, with GK IPA as the only real ale. But the food is good and plentiful, with friendly staff

A very friendly local pub - even for a vistor to Manningtree. 4 real beers on pumps, the 2 I tried where well kept.

The Oak has now closed - not that it was ever open very often before. It plans to reopen as Sammys, but no-one knows if this will be a pub, restaurant or nightclub.
Once again the owner is at odds with the local residents over planning proposals - maybe this is why the locals never used the pub.

Used to be good but seems to have gone downhill. Only one draft - mediocre London Pride. Looks as if it has now been taken over by the local students.

Good Youngs beers and always good service even when busy - like on a six nations match day. Rarely takes more than 30 secs to get served. Watching the tide come up the river can be fun - especially when the flashy drivers of fancy cars (parked illegally by warning signs) suddenly realise what idiots they have been.

The Tide End Cottage, Teddington
Good local pub, with reasonably priced food. Good range of beers (almost all Greene King products)

Great traditional pub with real character, though can be crowded. A good pint at under 2 in Central London just shows how much we are being ripped off by the other pub companies.

This local pub is about to fall victim to the developers. The lovely garden is about to go. There is a planning application in to build 4 properties in the garden. Same fate as the Waldegrove and the Royal Oak - all victims of the pub companies who just see the pub as development land.

The Lamb Tavern, Leadenhall Market
Was a good pub for many years, but is it going downhill after the refurb? The staff now seem more interested in chatting than serving.

Not a local but often stop here at lunchtime when driving up the M40. Always friendly with excellent food and good beer.

Bishop Out Of Residence, Kingston Upon Thames
Decent pint of Youngs beer, and good riverside location but spoilt by uninterested staff who seem to be trying to create an atmosphere that suits them rather than what their customers want.
Music extremely loud and aimed at 18-25s, even though the majority of customers were 40+.

Went in expecting to find a tourist trap due to its location - but found a gem.
Friendly atmosphere, good selection of beers (well kept), all in a stylish traditional building.
Excellent

The decor, seating and general appearance is a big improvement on the old 'Railway', giving the impression of a cozy yet modern pub. Unfortunately the music is too loud to have a cozy chat. Drinks are aimed more at the cocktail / lager drinker than the beer drinker, though there are two ales on the handpump

A gem in the City. A proper pub with good beer, and simple but good sarnies. I only get here occaisionally but always welcomed, unlike many small bars that have a 'regulars only' approach

The Walrus and Carpenter, Monument
Used to be a good proper pub, now just like every other pub in the City
14 Feb 2007 13:07
Excellent pub. Only problem is that it can be standing room only
14 Feb 2007 13:00
Can be variable. A great spot to sit outside in the summer, but often not the friendliest of staff. And why do they keep running out of draught beer and offer only keg? this has happened several times.

The Waldegrave Arms, Teddington
Developers have just submitted plans to build 22 flats on this site. A pub/restaurent'is to be retained on the ground floor but the garden and parking will be lost. They have already torn most of the trees down. Objections can be sent to Richmond Council under planning reference 07/0299/FUL.

The Queen Dowager, Teddington
Thanks petronille, will check this out. We must stop this development, Teddington is losing too many pubs to developers who are only interested in quick profit with total disrespect for the long term residents of the town.
All beerdrinkers - get your objections in to the council NOW.
