The Black Lion Hotel, Pontrhydfendigaid

Recently tastefully renovated. Fantastic country pub with great food & very well kept Fellinfoel real ales. Very enthusiastic & welcoming landlord.

The Wilton Arms, Radcliffe

This once great local has declined in the last couple of years following change of licensee. There is a much rowdier atmosphere & the condition of the beers has dropped considerably. In particular the cask mild which used to be consistently excellent is now nearly always undrinkably sour.

The Brooklyn, Bolton

Huge well maintained pub catering largely for diners. Excellent Holt's beers are spoiled slightly by being too cold. Food is well presented & reasonable value but typical pub fare & nothing remarkable.

Boars Head, Leigh

Fantastic multi-roomed pub. Three hand pulled bitters in excellent condition & very reasonably priced (although had to ask for top-ups because measures well short of a full pint). Lunchtime food good quality & value for money.

The Trackside, Bury

Ever changing interesting range of real ales, ciders & perries always in fantastic condition. Probably the finest real ale pub in the Bury area.

The Wilton Arms, Radcliffe

Very well run estate pub serving consistently very good condition beer from the wonderful Joseph Holts brewery.

Hen and Chickens, Bolton

Beer is ridiculously cold, measues are poor & staff are surly. Range of beers in this once fine pub is now nothing special. The Sweet Green is now the best Real Ale pub in Bolton.

The Sweet Green Tavern, Bolton

The range of real ales has improved tremendously in recent months with lots of small brewers represented. The quality is generally very high. There is usually one beer priced at 1.00 per pint. In my opinion this is the finest real ale pub in Bolton.
