The Black Bull Hotel, Coniston
One of the greatest pubs in the universe. Solid food, faultless beer, friendly staff and even its own micro-brewery. Its Old Man bitter - brewed onsite - is worth a three hundred mile round trip on its own.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale
Stunning scenery, a great pint. The Bluebird is (was) to be commended. Remember a fantastic black and white collie - might have lived there - that used to catch beer mats and made sure everyone in the boozer threw one for him. Cute.

Family friendly, good value, decent pint. One of Barmouth's few good points.

One very ill advised visit about seven years ago. Can only pray they've refurbed since: just like the Slaughtered Lamb, but with a funny smell.

The Beehive, Welwyn Garden City
Haven't been in years. Food and bitter used to be excellent, had a great local reputation too. Watch the walk home though. Thought they'd cleared the bombsites.

Happy memories before the kids showed up. Used to be the only place in Welwyn where people could count to five on one hand. Ahhhhh.....

Best introduction to Bristol pubs you can have: good pint, good mix.

Alright for a quickie after work as long as your missus doesn't know. A dirty secret.

Probably still the best pub in Wolves - but not much real competition. Beer's good, if the service is a little brusque. Beware the coleslaw if you're on a session.

Popular pub in it's area albeit lacking in atmosphere. Service is pretty good and the food's fair. Beer has its bad days. Not bad for its location, family friendly.

A bit like the Slaughtered Lamb if you're wearing a suit or not local but a good regulars' pub, and the beer is exemplary - especially the bitters. No food though.

Extremely good value food, comparable beer, friendly(ish) service. Gets VERY busy but this only reflects its status as the best pub for miles

Decent pub when not full of loud, obnoxious types. Good range of beers - especially bottled. Food used to be good, couldn't say now.

A relic of what Birmingham used to be - dirty, grotty and slightly dodgy - but perversely appealing and suprisingly friendly. A drinkers' pub - students and lightweights need not apply.

Turtles Head. The only pub in Wednesbury that makes the Pig & Trumpet look attractive. Pleasant mix of local thugs and petty thieves makes for a lively and intriguing clientelle.

Ye Olde Leathern Bottel, Wednesbury
Best pub in the Black Country. Beer, food, service and atmosphere unrivalled. 16 years of drinking there and still haven't been asked "wot yow lookin at?"

Service might be patchy and they never seem to have much food in, but the best pub on Broad Street by far - the Witherspoon crowd will find better elsewhere.

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham
Once great pub, improved recently after years of decline. Decent food, decent beer, better surroundings if a bit shabby these days.

The Sun Inn, Hawkshead
Food is the best in the area - and it's got some competition. The beer lives up to the grub and it's got a nice friendly atmosphere. Gets very busy as it is only a small pub, but a stand-out boozer in an area that can be proud of its boozers.
