The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

We were recommended. First visit excellent. Interior a little cramped, but nice fire, pleasant staff and excellent food. I can recommend the rabbit and leek pie from the varied selection on the specials board and one of the best cheese and biscuits we've had for a long time.

The Juggs Arms, Kingston

Their free lunch on birthdays has been a good scheme, but things have changed recently. Staff uninterested, all the best menu selections were 'sold out', food ordinary and not worth the price. My curry was nothing special and at 9.95 one expects more. Won't be returning for a long time.

Kent Cricketer, Hawkhurst

Looked run down and empty at lunchtime visit. At a glance couldn't see any staff or lunchtime menus on display. Turned round and walked out.

Eight Bells, Hawkhurst

First time visit as in area. Local had said under new management, but all was OK. Friendly staff, decent menu. We had Steak and mushroom bourguignon followed by an excellent ginger sponge pudding and huge cheeseboard. Will visit again and will recommend.

The Golden Galleon, Exceat

Cannot believe the reviews. My wife and I went mid week during Nov 2008 and were very pleased with choice on the menus, service, friendliness and everything else that one needs in a good pub. The main bar had been moved and made more accesable since our previous visit a year ago. The Ham hock was unusual choice on the menu, and was excellent. A group of women enjoyed their pre-Christmas get together next to us, and left a sizeable tip.
