The Strands Hotel, Nether Wasdale

Fantastic food, even better beer, good wine list, all well priced. Stay and enjoy the breakfast and then walk for miles before coming back for more great beer and food. Mark, Lesley and Adam the chef are doing a superb job. Seared scallops followed by proper roast beef dinner for 9.95 - you can't beat that. How pubs should be and no nasty pub co behind it, just hardworking freehouse owners who know what good service is all about.

The Bluebell, Smallwood

The best pub in Cheshire. New tenants took over around Nov 2008. Now great food as well as great beers. 3 good cask ales, one locally sourced at time of posting (Top Totty, Titanic Brewery). Fantastic Xmas party in marquee at back.

Barracuda Bar, Altrincham

Has re-opened as The Vineyard. The food's pretty good and well priced. but the people of Alty don't seem to know about it or they're all in Hale as it's dead quiet most of the time but no idiots anymore thank god. Not sure who owns it now but ten times better than Barracuda.

Leather's Smithy, Langley

Absolutely superb pub. The food is great, the view is fantastic and the beer well kept. This is what English country pubs should be.

The Waldron, Crewe

Great conversion of old job centre. Good food. New menu apparently - loads of choice and well priced. Best pub I could find in Crewe town centre by miles. Previous reviews seem a bit harsh but agree staff could smile more.

Barracuda Bar, Altrincham

Went in for food and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good meal. Owners have got over Litten Tree legacy. Will return.
