The White Hart, Chipstead

Drive past this pub regularly and was aghast to see it turn into a Bluebeckers. Now seems to be back to being a pub again and if the beer list below is anything to go by, all the better. I will pop in and check it out soon. Had a great pint of Kings Red River there about 4 years ago, before Bluebeckers, so hopefully back to what it used to be and more.

The Pembroke, Coulsdon

Food and ales were surprisingly good for this sort of pub. Handy to finally have a pub in Coulsdon town centre.

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Fabulous pub with ever changing ales from all sorts of micros. Lager is definately not high on their list, if available at all, which is fine by me. Let's hope they bring the title home to the Southeast this year, though I have to say the Surrey Oaks in nearby Newdigate is just as worthy.

The Well House Inn, Mugswell

Always a good selection of ales which usually includes a dark one. Food is very reliable and good value. A cracking oldy-worldy pub with beams and charm in a great area for walking/cycling.

The King Ethelbert Inn, Reculver

Our group of Ramblers from Surrey visited this pub for a "quick" drink stop on our walk from Birchington to Herne Bay. Although they had quite a few diners and locals in, they coped admirably with our order for 33 drinks, 21 of which were pints of Rosey Nosey ale from Hardy & Hansons. The staff didn't even seem put out either, which can happen in some pubs with a group of walkers. So well done to them and maybe it'll get in the GBG sometime.

The Butchers Arms, Herne

What can I say but to agree with these comments - truly superb and only sad there aren't more like it. I like the fact that the only Shepherd Neame beer to be found in the pub is a bottle of Spitfire which is hanging from the ceiling by a noose! Nothing against Sheps beers, but they are very dominant in Kent. Me and two friends visited a couple of weeks before Xmas and yes, the friendliness and banter of the locals was very entertaining, oh, and the Orkney Dark Island was superb too.

The Garland, Redhill

Fantastic pub with all Harvey's beers on, including Old Ale from Oct to May and Dark Mild all year so a great pub for dark ale fans. Lesley & Stuart must be commended for keeping up the great work done by previous tennants Bill & Shirley, even slightly improved upon. A proper pub with no yobs or diners (evngs) to spoil the relaxed chatty atmosphere. Why it only has a 7.2 rating is beyond me, I give it 10 every time, and it's 6 miles from me, but best in area.

The Carpenters Arms, Limpsfield Chart

Previous lady could have taken a bus into Oxted taking 10 minutes. Also, being a local, it takes a maximum of an hour to walk to town and that's at a leisurely pace! So she expected the chef to stay on to cook meals for 2 adults and 2 children and be paid the extra time, probably an hour I'd say at 12 to 15 an hour. How much would their meals have cost I wonder, and the profit from those I can assure you wouldn't even have covered chefs wages - get in the real world and plan you country walks better.
