Absolutely atrocious service, both at the bar and for food. This seems pretty much par for the course for all the M+B pubs I've been into recently. My theory is that they spend so much money on the distressed sofas and retro chairs that they can't afford to train their staff. And expensive too. Avoid.

Why do all these pubs have such terrible service? It really is appalling.

Nice enough pub. Always full of beautiful women. Staff are appallingly slow.

Great for beer, friendly and efficient staff keep the place ticking over well - I never wait too long for a pint. Good sausages in a bun from next door and a pint of Harveys..Bliss!

Ha Ha Bar and Canteen, Muswell Hill
Now a Slug and Lettuce, so it's still boring and expensive, but the walls are a different colour. And the food isn't as good.

The Butcher's Hook and Cleaver, Smithfield
Pretty anonymous pub, friendly enough but lacking any real spark. Also, three quid for a *tiny* bowl of bar snacks? You are having a giraffe mate.

Pfft. 'Best pub in North Finchley'. Thats like saying Goering was the least evil Nazi. Avoid. Two points for all that leather.

The Bar at tcr, Tottenham Court Road
Pfft. There are enough good places to drink nearby that there is pretty much no justification for going to this place. Not terrible, not great, just bland.

Ugh. It's gone downhill (I'm still somewhat incredulous that this was possible). Menacing atmosphere. Avoid.

The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park
Great pub, good-value Thai food (go for the green curry). A gem.

Its ok, could do with a clean as smells a bit too much of stale beer. Free popcorn though!

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell
Great pub with lovely beers. Gets crowded, understandably.

Marquis of Cornwallis, Bloomsbury
Yeah, second the comment about the staff. Slow and stingy. Pub overpriced but not totally awful. There are nicer pubs in Bloomsbury.

Great atmosphere - has something of the gentleman's club about it. Gets crowded at weekends.

The Swimmer at The Grafton Arms, Holloway
One of the nicest (ie least stabby) pubs near the Holloway road. Bar staff were extremely friendly; a really pleasant pub for a few nice pints and some good food.

Truly great pub. Have no idea how it manages it but despite being rammed with students and tourists, it has a great atmosphere and huge selection of good real ale.

Cheap. Double G+T for 2.25? I'll have six please. Staff have always been pleasant. I agree though that it is full of students and winos.

Impressive looking pub; it's a Sam Smiths so the beer is cheap. Too many lawyers though.
