The Hand and Racquet, Covent Garden

Dirty little pub, but worth a stop if you are out of options.

The Sports Cafe, Haymarket

Oh dear oh dear. Just can't force myself to write anything favourable about a bar that will not serve you a half because "we don't do halves". The only thing this place has going for it is a shed load of screens showing sport sport sport. Problem is the extremely poor service you will get at the bar is the stuff of legend. Also gets PACKED for big games, meaning getting a drink can take the entire first half. Take my advice, don't even think about it. There are better options in the area.

The Imperial, Soho

If you want a nice looking bar head next door to the Crooked Surgeon. If price is your thing, head here. Quite possibly the worst service and speed in the area, but they will sell you a relatively bargain pint, even if the product choice is extremely limited.

The Crooked Surgeon, Leicester Square

This place is fairly good if you are in the area and looking for a place not too rammed. Recently had a refurb and looks much better than the old hogs-head days. Good selection of lagers, but be warned, this just may be the MOST EXPENSIVE pub in London. 3.60 for a pint of Heineken. HA!

Tiger Tiger, Piccadilly Circus

Personally I'm really sick of over-hyped over-priced 'venues' where the barmen think that it is absolutely in their job description to be as rude to customers as possible. Amazingly enough, people keep queueing up for more. Can't see why.

The Tom Cribb, Piccadilly

OK little pub, if this is your sort of thing. Staff are friendly enough, but I paid 4.20 for a bottle of Bulmers in here. I know this is London, but 4.20?!? It wasn't even (dare-I-say-it...) Magners. Admittedly I perhaps shouldn't have been drinking said product, but what can I say, the feeling took me. Biggest problems are the prices and the size of the place.

The Comedy, Piccadilly

Actually quite like this place. Staff are friendly and really fast behind the bar. Its also huge, so there is usally a place to find a seat and watch the football. The decor is a problem, and there isn't much atmosphere when its empty. When its full though, especially during big matches, the atmosphere is wicked! It really is the best alternative to the hideousness that is The Sports Cafe, will definitely be watching the Champions League Final here. Agree that the lack of real ales is a what lets it down, but I was talking to one of the barmaids yesterday and they mentioned there is a huge refurb in the pipeline, and a selection of ales is planned - which is great news because this place has the potential to be one of the best pubs in the area, IF they do it up right. Here's hoping...
