Three Pigeons, Halifax

What a cracking pub ! Pleasant décor, swift service, great beer, genial clientele, good value prices, wide range of ale and lovely barmaid- full marks !

The Chequers Inn, Swanley

Early in December, I was one of a party of 6 who partook of their Christmas menu - we booked in advance the previous month and it was my first visit to The Chequers although it is just 15 minutes by train and a further 15 on foot from mine. Like Arnie and general MacArthur, I will be making a return visit.
There was a decent choice of three real ales, I happily settled on the Ringwood and the whole place was pleasant, clean and well decorated.
Words can hardly describe, however, just how marvellous the food was. The parsnip soup was a pleasant hors d'oeuvre, but what was to follow surpassed all expectations. As some of my company tucked into their venison, I enjoyed the nicest traditional Christmas dinner - turkey and all the trimmings- that I have ever tasted away from home (my sister is a great cook and I will be at hers again on 25th Dec). To round things off, my Christmas pudding was moist and really tasty and all six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Lovely pub, top grub, pleasant clientele and friendly, prompt and professional service made it a truly enjoyable experience.

The Pembroke, Gravesend

Look, if you have a strong stomach, at the facebook page for this pub and you will find the winners of the quiz for the last four weeks; look again, Sherlock, and you will find the computer that this flab four keep cribbing their answers from. How clever, how smart, how much pleasure they must derive from winning by cheating ! Equally nauseating is the sight of vast swathes of their pale , surplus and uninteresting skin spewing out of their catalogue clothes as they clamber over the furniture to bag their ill-gotten prize. I suppose if you look like the cast of "Shaun of the Dead" if they let themselves go and behave like aspirants to get on a Jeremy Kyle show, then the Goose Fat Club regulars have truly found their niche.
Pity, because this is not a bad pub, the prices and ranges of ales are all right, it is just Team 5,6,7,8 ( representing their mental ages, intelligence quotients or chins) that leaves such a nasty stench

The Bucks Head, Godden Green

Popped here the other Sunday after my cricket team had enjoyed a facile win at Knole Paddock, and was suitably impressed. There was decent service, a good choice of ales, an attractive barmaid and a nice ambience. On the down side, Shep Neame beers are hardly cheap but it is pleasant to drink in a neat little boozer rather than a soulless sports club after a game.

The Railway Tavern, Meopham

To lose one entertainment license is careless, but to lose two is criminal; what a card, two in every pack !

The George Inn, Meopham

Easily the best pub in Meopham - The Meopham Green pubs now being bistros with boozers added on as afterthoughts and The Railway degenating into a place totally devoid of any semblance of soul - there is much to admire about The George.
Good beer ( a tad pricier than The Cock), supported by great staff and fine food all help to explain why this place is so popular. In contrast to The Cricketers where there is a parking space for the ambulance for the heart attack you get on receiving the bill, each visit is very much a pleasure.

The Villager, Vigo Village

On the plus side - they do live music ; on the minus side, a bit like New Ash Green's "Badger" , this appears to be too much like a town pub rather than a rural one, it is relatively new, but ithe vibe is less like a country estate and a bit more like a sink one ! The prsence of a couple of sensible shoes wearers was a bit of a novelty, but they made up forty percent of the entire customers on a Saturday night, weird.
I much prefer The Vigo just up the road, now THAT is a proper, country pub.

Sennockian, Sevenoaks

Not quite as good as its opposite number in Tunbridge Wells, but this is still an above average Wetherspoons, which boasts decent food, toilets and beer.
Ok too on the service and decor fronts, with a diverse and friendly clientele, this pub is a pleasant enough pit stop.

Robert Pocock, Gravesend

Yes, it is a Wetherspoons and yes it is in Gravesend, but only a snob would be put off by either. Service can be a bit slow, but the prices and range of the ales are fine, the chicken burgers, traditional breakfasts and curries likewise and the toilets are clean and hygenic.
Fine for a quick pint, loo stop or Thurdsay curry, keep up the good work Mr Martin.

The Vigo Inn, Vigo

Now this is exactly what a country pub should be like, the "Railway Tavern", Meopham take note. Popped in with a couple of mates a few Sundays ago and was greeted by a jazz band, great ale and a warm welcome. The choice of food is a little limited, but a reasonable choice of beers and live music more than compensate ; looking forward to coming back again soon.

The Railway Tavern, Meopham

Back in July, "Newshopper's" PubSpy gave this mediocre boozer a vanilla bland review, the local hack was too kind. When Will Parsons was in charge, the place became quite welcoming and homely, but the rot set in when he left and since February 2011 the decline has been terminal.
Remember the failed experiment that was "The Long Hop" ? The same Doctor Frankenstein has been let loose two miles North, leaving "The George" without any competition. Sure, the staff are friendly and the beers not too pricey, but there is no character or any characters left. This pub is now UKIP incarnate - confused, sad, inadequate and shabbily trying to hitch itself to the latest bandwagon. If "Talk Sport" was a pub, it would be "The Railway Tavern" in Meopham.
