The Swing Gate, Bradford

The Swing Gate has recently changed back to being a traditional real ale pub.

The Sparrow, Bradford

This has to be the best pub in the city centre. The owners are clearly extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what they are doing and deliver the most interesting cask, keg and bottled beers available. The place is very busy yet relaxed and friendly and attracts people of all ages.

Old Bank, Bradford

This pub is still closed but will no doubt get snapped up sharpish when the new shopping centre gets underway, possibly later this year.

The Junction, Bradford

Sadly this pub has gone and is now a fashion/clothes shop. What a shame.

The Ginger Goose, Bradford

The Ginger Goose has been open in its new form for a while now and thankfully has a good selection of real ales, including ales from local breweries. Its a large comfortable pub right next to the City Park and well worth a visit.

Jacobs Well, Bradford

This gem of a traditional pub has just reopened as 'Jacobs' and is now a Freehouse serving real ales. There were 9 hand pumps on my last visit which makes this pub a 'must' for any real ale drinkers in the city centre. The new owner has done the place up in typical alehouse style but its smart and comfortable and should please all age groups. The big TV has now gone too, thankfully!

The Corn Dolly, Bradford

One of my regulars for years and still one of the best real ale pubs in Bradford. The beer selection is always interesting and should have something to please everyone. I would also recommend their lunchtime hot and cold food (weekdays only I think) which is excellent and amazing value for money. The choice is fairly limited but covers the usual things like Chile, pie and peas and sandwiches. I last had the Corn Dolly Special sandwich filled with deliciously tender beef, ham and chicken and it was a massive plateful, an absolute bargain!

The Brewery Tap, Idle

I've not had to tangle with any red faced landlords, but have found this to be a great place to see live rock covers bands and drink some real ale. The beer selection has always been very limited on my visits but the quality has been good and has included something from one of the local breweries.

The Turls Green, Bradford

This busy modern pub is in a prime city centre location just opposite the Town Hall. There is a large outside seating area in Centenary Square which should be even better once the work to construct the City Park is completed. The pub caters for mixed ages during the day when food is served but at night the music is geared up for the younger end. There are usually several cask ales on offer and they have been in good condition on my frequent visits. The ales are usually a bit predictable, although there is usually something on offer from a local brewery.

The Shoulder of Mutton, Bradford

This is a great example of an unpretentious and genuine traditional city centre local. It's a fairly small pub that has a surprisingly large beer garden hidden away at the rear.

The Castle Hotel, Bradford

A nice friendly and comfortable city centre pub with an excellent selection of real ales that i've always found to be in good condition. The splendid exterior is slightly let down by the rather bland interior, but well worth a visit all the same if you're in the area.

The Podger, Garforth

A fairly large but basic pub with sky TV. They only have Tetleys Cask but it has been in excellent condition on my infrequent visits.

Haigy's, Manningham

Haigy's is an excellent real ale pub and well worth a visit after a Bradford City match as its only 10 minutes walk away and is in the general direction of the city centre.
In fact I'd recommend a mini real ale pub crawl, starting at Haigy's, then the New Bee Hive, the Castle, then drop into town and go to the Sir Titus Salt before heading for the Karachi for a superb traditional Bratfud curry.

The New Beehive Inn, Bradford

The New Bee Hive is one of Bradford's treasures. Every part of the pub bursts with its own individual character. The ales are usually kept very well and there were 5 pumps on the go on my last visit. They usually have at least a couple of locally produced ales.
There's a big beer garden with a massive canvas roof at the side. But beware, there's a curry house right next door, and the urge to go eat can be overwhelming.

Sir Titus Salt, Bradford

A pub well worth a visit if you love your ale. There has always been a big selection of beers on offer but the beers used to be a bit predictable. Things have now improved and you're likely to see more blonde and golden ales and something from the local breweries.
I really like the decor of the place although it does need a bit of TLC. Like most Bradford pubs it doesnt get rammed like pubs in Leeds, but its steady and has a good mix of young and old.

The Corn Dolly, Bradford

The beer quality at the Corn Dolly has always been excellent. And its a great pub for the beer selection as I think they usually have 8 or 9 pumps on the go. The guest ales usually include some excellent golden ales. The place could do with a few quid spending on a refurb though. But its still a top pub with a friendly atmosphere.

The City Vaults, Bradford

This pub has improved massively over the last couple of years and is now an excellent real ale pub right in the centre of town and with a good selection of local beers. I went for Golden Salamander, Salamander Mud Puppy and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and all were excellent. They also sell large 50g bags of Seabrook crisps which is a nice bonus. This pub has character and is in an excellent location just behind the famous Wool Exchange. Somebody should open another similar establishment in the fantastic building just opposite.

The Tap, Ossett

Called in with friends after a tip off and wasn't disappointed. Well decorated typical alehouse style with relaxing friendly atmosphere. Beer quality excellent. I think they had 4 Ossett beers and 3 guests. Well worth a visit.
