The Red Lion, Welwyn

Not exactly a 'local', I like this pub because I can get a very decent evening meal and a pint for 10, and nobody minds that I'm on my own with a book or a paper. Friendly and efficient staff.

The Castle, Bredfield

Not the most exciting pub you'll ever visit, and perhaps in need of a redecoration - but the welcome was friendly and the food reasonable. Part of a very attractive village.

The Maybush Inn, Waldringfield

This pub is absolutely packed in the summer - if you want to eat here, get here early! Perhaps it's a bit too busy, but you can't knock success and the staff (and there are loads) try very hard.

The White Lion, Ufford

A real traditional pub - real beers on a counter behind the bar, old pews to sit in. Good food too, a delight. The back room could do with a lick of paint but overall well worth a visit.

The Cherry Tree, Bromeswell

Nice looking place, but the garden was full of children who had waited too long for their food. When it came, the food was OK, but who wants to wait that long? I've tried it a couple of times - same story inside or out.

The Froize Inn, Chillesford

Good buffet food, generous portions, cheerful staff. I've been in more atmospheric pubs, but as long as you get here before it fills up, this is a great place to bring the family, the in-laws etc.
