Duke of Cambridge, Mapperley

Family friendly local pub - quite a few regular characters which keeps the place lively. Beer well kept - Harvest Pale and a guest ale or two - and typical pub grub, good value. Couple of different screens showing Sky sports channels.

The Glamorgan, Croydon

First time visitors to the pub tonight - met up with friends for a pint and a meal. Nice beer (only two real ales, I understand there is normally a third) and a reasonable meal, maybe a tad pricey (£8.95 for chicken burger...but hey, it had guacomole on it, so it was fancy dan.) A small menu with some unusual South African dishes, but they started running out of some dishes early in the evening. Would go back - and maybe try the ostrich steak next time.

The Bricklayers Arms, Beckenham

Seems like a perfectly reasonable pub - 4 real ales on - friendly bar maid. As first time vistors we were treated just fine. Doesn't deserve the bad reviews on here. Thai food was being served and it looked great, but we were here to drink not eat. Would go back. And I liked the Spiderman.

The George, Beckenham

Allegedly a 360 year old coaching inn, but not shred of this heritage on the inside. Despite being half empty the bar staff made us move to sit by the open door leading to the smokers because we had our children with us. Tables and menus were sticky and could have done with a clean. Beer was ok, I had a pint of Harveys, and to be fair the pub grub was decent.

The Alexandra, Southampton

Southampton city centre's best pub. Good beers well kept. Reasonable beer garden. This pub is the best place to watch football matches on the big screens. You can sometimes get a quiet pint - but often very lively at the weekend in the evenings. Landlord is a film nut - so interesting movie memorabilia around the place.

The Crown Inn, Southampton

I have been going to this pub on and off for the last 7 or 8 years. The food, beer and bar staff are as good as ever - maybe the last poster just had a bad night. The food is geat value, decent pub grub and largish portions. Nice ales - including Landlord and Pride. So popular it can be worth reserving a table to be assured of eating when you want to.

Crown Stirrup, Lyndhurst

Excellent pub - entirely agree with OP. The beers on tap were Ringwood and Godfather. Very friendly. I can imagine this being a perfect pub on a cold winters day with the log fire lit. Will be back
