Engineers Arms, Henlow

What a gem! We visited Henlow on a camping trip and were recommended the Engineers Arms by the campsite staff as a friendly real ale drinkers pub and they were not wrong.

Massive choice of over 20 ales and 8 draft ciders and a landlord and staff who made 6 of us and 3 damp dogs feel very welcome.

Table skittles and many other pub games and lots of memorabilia around the pub kept us amused and old school homemade crusty rolls and excellent pies completed the package

Shame that we missed the brilliant Ouse Valley Singles Club but we all look forward to our next visit

The Red Lion, Sturmer

Yet again under new management since late Dec 2012-early 2013 and I have high hopes so long as Greedy King allows them to make a living!

So many good comments I had to try it for myself but being late on a midweek lunchtime with no cars in the car park I feared the worst.

I needn't have worried, the service was very good and we got a good choice of well prepared food.

So refreshing to find a pub on a positive upturn, keep up the good work and we will be back!

The White Horse, Kedington

Greedy King strikes again! Another closed down pub waiting to be redeveloped as housing

The Rose Tavern, Haverhill

Another victim of the pub cull, now flats/houses and black ink on a Greedy King ledger

The Royal Exchange, Haverhill

Brian and Dionne are great landlord and landlady and have a knack for turning pubs around. They attract a friendly, no-nonsense crowd of locals who like a drink and can get noisy and rowdy but not out of hand. I think this is the best pubs in the town for a drink with my mates.

The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

Popped in here last Summer and met up with a few friends on the way to Devon for a boys weekend away.

Staff were friendly and tolerant of a rowdy group of beer-lovers, knowledgeable about their beer and efficient.

Great choice of low-cost food and bar snacks and surprisingly reasonably priced.

Quirky decor and clientelle to match make this a great pub to visit but the excellent choice of well-kept, top quality beers make the Cleveland unmissable!

The Australian Arms, Haverhill

CLOSED DOWN SINCE 2010 now being sold by Greedy King (sorry, I meant Greene King)

The White Horse Inn, Withersfield

Doug and his team have returned this pub to it's former glory!

An excellent choice of ales and a roaring fire in the Winter as well as welcoming staff and a good menu make this a great place to visit.

There are not many village pubs open all day but The White Horse is bucking the trend and deserves to be busy.

In 2010 they offered FREE sausage and mash on a Monday evening and the quality was excellent! It is good to see an experienced landlord giving something back to the clientelle so I have to give them top marks!

The Plough Inn, Rede

I love this place and landlord and landlady are great. I have heard mixed reviews of food and service from friends but I can only speak from my personal experience which has been superb!

The Queens Head, Hawkedon

Great country pub with great food and good choice of well kept ales and ciders. Beer fest this weekend, if you are in the area make the effort and you won't regret it.

Rising Sun, Dartford

A drinkers pub that Harvester have failed to kill despite their best efforts!

The bar is at the side of the pub and separated from the restaurant enough that it has it's own atmosphere.

Interesting and friendly locals keep the bar alive!

Bird In Hand, Dartford

Good local trade and large screen for sport.

Not a place for the elderly to go for a quiet drink but still a good place for a pint
