The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

Been in here a couple of times recently. First was at lunch which was fine. The second time was only a day or so later but in the evening and the staff were rather off-hand. In particular, I had a pint which was pretty much flat. When I complained all they did was bang the glass so that the last remaining bit of fizz came to the top and handed it back to me (now even more flat). They seemed amused by the whole thing rather than apologising or offering me an alternative.

Hoochimama's Bar Bistro, Tooting

Yup. Hoochie Mamma's has been shut for a month or more. There's a letter in the window, from the landlord's agents, reclaiming the property and giving the guys who ran it a date to pick up the furniture/booze/etc.

Shame. Although there's no "normal" beer there and could get a bit loud at times it was a nice option to have in Tooting.

Interesting that both Spirit and Hoochies have closed in the recent past. Suspect Tooting Tram & Social might be part of it.

The Selkirk, Tooting

Interesting to read the recent comments about the food. I'd always heard good things about the food but when I finally got round to eating here a couple of weeks ago me and my friends were all really disappointed. Quality was average at best and the portion sizes were appallingly small.

The "famous" burger was a standard supermarket 8-pack size, the fish & chips came with about 8 chips and the portion of nachos (paying extra for additional cheese) was small enough to be served on a side plate and came with the lightest splattering of cheese shavings.

A nice pub over all (although a bit pricey) with a nice atmosphere and definitely one of the best gardens in the area. Just don't bother with any of the food until they sort it out.

The Bath House, Soho

Been in here a few times over the years it's it's always been a reasonable, but distinctly average, old fashioned pub.

Went in last night however and was treated really badly by the staff.

Both the bar person and the manager (who I had to go and find myself) refused to accept that we'd been served a completely flat pint of Peroni. Their argument was that some people over there drinking the same lager hadn't complained. Those people, however, all agreed that my pint was flat. Believe me, this was a flat pint.

After a couple of minutes arguing the manager reluctantly, and rather rudely, gave me some money back (still not accepting that anything was wrong). We decided not to get a pint of anything else and to take our money elsewhere (not like there's a shortage of pubs around there!).

About 10 minutes later (as we were leaving) the Peroni was mysteriously taken off because off. Despite us being sat right next to the manager, there was no suggestion of an apology or even an admission that there had been a problem.

I won't be going back there. Not worth the risk of this sort of arrogant rudeness.

Only went in here once but I totally agree with the lwk198 and womble - horrible, rough looking and feeling place which I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable in.

Hoochimama's Bar Bistro, Tooting

More of a very small bar (that serves some very good pizza) than a bistro, but that's meant in a bad way - it's a great little place. It was worryingly empty when it forst opened a year or so ago, but now it's normally fairly lively (in a relaxed way) and looks set to stay.

There's a good range of premium beers, both on tap and bottled, and the staff are excellent - friendly, helpful and attentive. It's also open until midnight most of the time (maybe every night?) which always helps!

My only criticisms would be that it could be a bit too smokey for some (it is small) and you can sometimes feel a little "on show" if you're sat in the big front windows.

All in all it's a great little place.

Unbelievably bad. You can catch the wiff of stale, old alcoholics as you walk past on the opposite side of the street.

Very cheap (food and drink) but generally offensive in almost every way.
