The Halfway House, Earlsfield

Very disappointing to see that this pub has had a refurb but despite all of their cosmetic work they have not bothered to extend the bar serving area.

The only problem with this pub is that the bar counter is too small and there is always a queue to get a pint. What a waste of an opportunity!

The Alma Tavern, Wandsworth Town

The Alma!
A decent cold pint, and the layout makes it easy to get a drink.
Certainly dont enjoy getting a plastic cup forced into your face and told to transfer your guiness into it asap! (that happens when standing outside on summer evenings).

Sunday lunch is great.

The Wheatsheaf on the Green, Esher

I work near this place so i have been a few times.
The lunch menu is very hit and miss. Some items are bare bones whilst other items of similar price are well portioned and come with all the bells and whistles.

A good pub with a nice, charming atmosphere.

The Albert Arms, Esher

I went in here for a mid-week lunch and the food we top-notch.

The manager was friendly and service was good.

The Bear, Esher

A reasonable spot. Sometimes plain and dull with a retail sort of feel but when it gets a little busy then you wont look back.
Serivce is good, and if you are drinking in Esher then you have got no right to get snooty about an extra 5p on the price of beer.

The Nightingale, Balham

A good pub!
If you dont know the difference between a wine bar and a pub then a visit to this place will solve all your questions.

The County Arms, Wandsworth Common

Agreed with comments below - this is a great pub spoilt by pretending to be a wine bar.

Still a great place for a Sunday lunch or as a function venue - it is not that busy so if you host a party everybody can get a drink and there is lots of space.

The Northcote, Clapham Junction

This is a solid pub - I would go near this place before the refurb, but the now look and feel makes it a welcome addition to the area.

Good Service.

If you want to have a few pints in a pub atmosphere the you wont get better on Northcote Road.

The Spotted Horse, Putney

A nice pub in the midst of the retail madness of the High Street.
If you go there after work expect to find a decent crowd of people catching up with good wine and a decent cold pint.

Service quick and friendly.

Perhaps one of the better ones in Putney.

The Pigs Ear, Chelsea

Well - before going to this place I read the reviews here, which I suppose is a bad thing as it clouds your judgement.

Anyway - what an amazing little pub! It is off the side of the main drag and I think the patrons there are genuine locals who enjoy their pub.

I need to go again to judge the bar staff but they were friendly enough.
Service was quick, pint was cold.

In general a good crowd - thumbs up.

The Lavender Restaurant and Bar, Battersea

A great local. I hope the bankers don't discover this place.

Pity about it being on such a busy road because the outside tables are not a nice experience.

B@1 (Be At One), Battersea

A bit too busy for me. Everybody is trying to buy a fancy cocktail and the bar staff take ages to do their "magic" to impress everybody. And it is far too loud.

It is a pity as it has lots of potential but the crowd is a but too snooty.
Not my cup of tea at all.

The Goat, Battersea

A great pub!
Large choice of beers. Service can get slow at times.

This is up there with the Holy drinker as the best in Clapham.

The Fox and Hounds, Battersea

Great pub. It is modest with an awesome atmosphere. It is not your Saturday night effort but pop down during the week for a drink to catch up with a mate and you cant go wrong.

I once went there and a whole lot of foxtons agents were crammed in there buying drinks with their fancy gadgets and suits - they didn't fit the part... enough said.

Tir Na Nog, Wandsworth

This is as close to a real Irish pub as you will get in England.
Great place.

12 Aug 2009 15:24

Mel's, Earlsfield

A good effort - but I see no reason why you had to change it from the open page.

The Holy Drinker, Battersea

This place is a lucky packet - but i have had more good times here than bad times.

The best time to really appreciate this pub is when the late afternoon / late evening. Best for me is in winter on the weekdays before it gets busy - grab a beer and sit around the fire.

The Wheatsheaf, Fitzrovia

This is an awesome pub.
Good beers that come quickly even on a busy friday afternoon.

They hire decent, friendly bar staff and the manager has been around for ages.

One of the best around.

12 Aug 2009 12:38

The Oak Inn, Lyndhurst

This is an excellent pub.
Perhaps the best in the New Forest.

Yes - it gets very busy at lunch on a fine summers day, but they somehow manage to cope and it is always worth the wait.

The Draft House, Battersea

Well the poor old P'nP on Northcote Road is closing down.
The thing is that this has absolutely zero to do with the economy and everything to do with the management at the place.

Over the years the place has become a bit run down and the crowd has certainly changed.

I gave it another shot a few weeks ago and the same group of youths were hanging around on their bikes at the front. It is because one of the group is older and is enjoying a beer whilst the rest of them chat away from the street. And the manager seems to have a rapport with them so while he chats away the business in falling through the floor.

Furnishings old - no serious investment on the inside for ages. The glass on the outside wall has made the small drinking place look more like a jail cell.

No sir - this time you cant blame the economy.
Congrats - it is almost impossible to have a pub on this street and run it into the ground.

The Coat and Badge, Putney

A good pub. Cant see why they have them cheap tables and chairs outside when they have such a lovley inside.

Good pub and a good, decent crowd.

The Leather Bottle, Earlsfield

Well done on fixing up the garden. A good pub. A place for everybody and even of there are loads of prams and kids running around the garden is big enough and there is place for everybody.

Decent bar that can keep up with the pace when there is a busy rugby match so full compliments.

If you have afternoon drinks here on a saturday, dont make plans for hanging around in the evening, this is a top class lunchtime / early evening pub but leave it at that.

The Halfway House, Earlsfield

If the pub is even a little busy then the bar service falls right through the floor.
It means you end up having to wait for 15 mins to get a drink.
No comment about the food. Drinks are cold when you finally get them.

The problem is not so much as the bar serving area is small, but the customers ordering drinks are bankers from the city trying to order fancy combinations of drinks. Wish they could just order a pint and be done with it!

Dont get me wrong - it is an excellent location for a few afterwork drinks.
It is a sanitised pub but still retains some of the pub feel so if you are looking for a pub to meet up for a quick drink give this one a chance. Just make sure you order 2 pints when you get served you wont get another chance for ages.

The Cat's Back, Wandsworth

At first entrance you can be a bit taken aback but it grows on you. Good pub.
