Carpenters Arms, Bethnal Green

small and clean, very expensive considering the area
Beer average but for the price poor.
much room for improvement here but doubt the owners will be bothered they are sitting pretty

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Ok fair enough jodineild for you comment yetserday but I have just visited tonight and I can say this:
Beer was absolutelty first class, spot on 100%, cannot be faulted on all beers tonight and congrats on 2010 GBG entry

and for any pub, anywhere, the beer is first and foremost.
The beer is much before the food, the decor, kids and quizzes, games and jukebox and all that cr*p....beer first!

the food tonight was not first class. Only average. And the price they charge made it quite poor.
But, even though there's the 'veggie' menu and 'organic' bullsh*t alleged boll*cks beers this place is....and lets never forget a first class run pub... a perfect capitalist venture! a superb marketing winner day in day out! it is absolutely not to be missed!
They know exactly what they are doing in here and good luck to them, may they make bucket loads of money to continue to survive in these tough 'anti-alcohol' times.
Forget the average food, ...it will probably get back to form soon and support this Great British establishment! now...
rate highly f 10

The Tunnel End Inn, Marsden

Very friendly pub, clean and tidy, bit old fashioned but in a good manner. With decent prices and a choice of 4 cask ales.
Not that busy this evening
Could do with some more customers to keep trade up.
4 x 4 vehicles would be most suitable to reach this location.
I suspect the previous poster has more of a political issue with 4 x 4 owners rather than a genuine concern, a Saab 900 takes up the same parking space but they are ok to park here?
Well 4 x 4 owners also like a decent pint, pay more than their fair share in taxes, own pubs and micro-breweries and keep the country up and running, good for them and good for pubs like this where parking is permitted right outside.

The Clog and Billycock, Blackburn

Well run and busy, thwaites ales reasonable but not great, overall about the best in the vicinity for food

7 Mar 2009 22:18

The Golden Heart, Shoreditch

very poor beer

21 Jan 2009 00:06

The Dove, Bethnal Green

very reasonable, well kept brewers gold, bit pricy but worth it.

21 Jan 2009 00:02

The Three Shires, Stockport

This place is desperate for new owners and return quality beers and customers

7 Sep 2008 23:19

The Grapes, Limehouse

Good pub, great beers, would have had food in here but was put off by some customers talking very loudly about lefty stuff....very annoying!

7 Sep 2008 23:09

Bootys, Limehouse

Nice place with some intersting history but London Pride only just average and quite expensive.

7 Sep 2008 23:01

The Narrow Street Pub & Dining Room, Limehouse

Beer needs more attention especially when offering 3+ handpumps.
Everything else is top quality, staff, location, food, even the prices are not too bad.

7 Sep 2008 22:56

The Rising Sun, Hazel Grove

It may be a little untidy compared to the Bull across the way but much more down to earth and friendly. Decent well kept bitters on offer without any fuss made about them.

7 Sep 2008 22:46

Bulls Head, Hazel Grove

September 2008, crap, avoid, terrible beer, very pretencious customers and poor service from miserable staff.
But clean and tidy enough
Rate this place zero so lots of work to to here.

7 Sep 2008 22:37

The Swan With Two Nicks, Little Bollington

Nice enough, decent beer and food.
Plenty of dogs about.
I am rating at 6, so quite good but room for some improvement.

22 Jun 2008 22:28

Quinn's, Camden

very dissapointing, and this was the best pub in the area, the others visited were absolutely dreadful, an average pint here but at 5pm they couldn't be bothered doing any food because 'not enough customers' and the landlord couldn't wait to get back to his table of mates.
Poor, very poor. Avoid this place, avoid the whole zone! it's busy with attention seekers and druggies.

22 Jun 2008 22:25

The Buffet Bar, Stalybridge

while since bean here. But sadly still the same: Fab ale, but very dirty pub, no reason for it because there's enough staff to clean the dripping beer from the tops,(no ash trays to empty.....well they never did empty them here anyway!)
They are doing some re-works around the station area at present making access less easy but not really a problem, I think they are going to re-name it 'The Stalybridge Station Scruffy Bar'... so I've heard, officially this time but we'll have to see.

10 Apr 2008 00:10

The Narrow Street Pub & Dining Room, Limehouse

Very nice place..
But
When I make chips I peel potatos and fry them, nice chunky home-made ones.
Harry Ramsdens do fantastic tasting chips even better than mine, perfect.
This place, frozen oven, micro-wave chips???, 3 per portion. Now I'm not Gordon F***ing Ramsay but I have never been more f**in dissapointed!
And apart from one member of staff walking slowly AND a black bin bag of rubbish carried through the main seating zone by another staff (quickly, to be fair) everything else was impressive!

18 Jan 2008 01:27

The Crooked Billet, Leigh on Sea

really nice genuine place.
good to return here

18 Jan 2008 01:16

The Waggon and Horses, Matley

Please forgive me for the following comment BUT even though I agree fab food and professional set up may I say (I beg BITE not to remove because this is a serious observation, very relevant from a long est. member) can I just say that the landlord's Son has an obsession with scratching his testicles very often and it's very off-putting. Okay I have said my bit. I do apologise but it's very true, he's always having an itch of his balls, not just once but all the f**k**n time. Sorry, really sorry but it's true. I didn't want to say so but it's a brill place and I doooo love it apart from what I have already said here. Ball scrathin' isn't good in a food place. Nutz 'r' itchin' move OUT 'o' the KITCHEN, ......Please...

Otherwise highly rated...

22 Sep 2007 21:56

The Drum and Monkey, Clevedon

Good pub, very friendly waitress's (10 out of 10)
Nice location, busy this friday lunchtime with complaining OAPs all handled in a professional manner.
Omitted to charge for 2 drinks, 2 deserts and a side order, hence generous tip.
Bass ok

1 Sep 2007 11:53

The Old Gloveworks, Glossop

Good real ales a tad pricy.
On live act nights it would be an advantage if you suffer from full or partial deafness to avoid the terrible pain in your ears.
If you don't take protection you'll end up with hearing loss and then join in and appreciate these shows perhaps without the aid of ale.
Too late for most in here but it's good advice. More advice, if you can't afford a quality sound system or an engineer to set it up correctly then for now simply turn it down a notch.
Very nice bar staff 10/10

27 Jun 2007 23:54

The Spread Eagle, Gailey

Car park was full on sunday so expected a poor service but we got served at the bar straight away, found a clear table and food ordered promtly by very efficient waitress. The salad let down the meal and another waitress couldn't stop itching herself which was not good but still a good place overall.

28 Mar 2007 23:13

The Dog and Duck, Soho

Shuts far too early for 2007, especially in it's location

9 Mar 2007 00:17

The Dog And Pheasant, Waterloo

some pubs in London charge the same for a pint!,.....almost.
But friendly, English speaking and decent beers make a good combination.
The meaty steaks are quite acceptable and unlike the ale they are reasonably priced.

14 Feb 2007 23:25

The Sawyers Arms, Paddington

Unexpected excellent pint(s) of Bombadier, first class. MEGA Smokey place!
But good and not too pricey.
Poor english speaking bar staff a bit tricky but that's normal nowadays.

7 Feb 2007 23:29

The Coach and Horses, Soho

very entertaining, I have never encountered so many idiots before!
beer like piss

7 Feb 2007 23:20

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

very good ale and fish and chips.
Professionally run despite being very busy.
Only complaint was the removal of all the trash from the bar areas was transported through the dining area whilst eating

7 Feb 2007 23:08

The Three Shires, Stockport

a gem
a real ale place + top food
but no real ale weirdo beardos or scruffy cheapskates
best place for miles
highly rate

7 Feb 2007 22:57

The Q Bar, Stalybridge

monday nights require earplugs.
At the bottom of the staircase there is a sticker saying 'Keep Music Live' and I agree fully 99% BUT not here on a Monday night, a mouth organ played crap is painful.
And in reply to RS below, why do you think so many people watch telly? And why do you use an enormous van to transport a 6 inch pitch pipe! why not put it in your pocket and buy a train ticket! cycle, walk,bus.... hippycrite!

11 Jan 2007 00:18

The White Hart, Whitechapel

London Pride not very good. When the band started playing was hoping for much better but they turned out to be boring old rockers so left.

29 Nov 2006 14:22

The Black Bull, Whitechapel

visited yet again 26-10-06 and spot on. very quiet but friendly and decent beers.

29 Nov 2006 14:19

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

I visited here Sunday evening 26th Nov and to be fair I found a big improvement from last visit, the Landlady/barmaid?? was friendly, the toilets and grubby chairs cleaned/changed and most importantly and suprising was the London Pride was fine. Rate 5 out of 10.

29 Nov 2006 14:17

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

Proper boozer.. Very rare. Shame about the ever increasing stinking area surrounding it. It's a very busy area so why not clean it up?

29 Nov 2006 14:13

The Gun, Shoreditch

Average Adnams Broadside 3.20 a pint.....Now that's rip-off Britain. I said 3.20 a Pint!!! and not even top quality!

29 Nov 2006 14:08

The Ten Bells, Shoreditch

There's nothing here.

Except an award for the UKs'shortest pint! 2 inches from the top of the pot!!! and upon complaining the barmaid couldn't understand English.

29 Nov 2006 13:59

The Golden Heart, Shoreditch

Miserable landlady, waited ages for adnams to be changed and then she says 'I'm too busy you'll av to av John Smiths'.....

29 Nov 2006 13:53

The Vine, West Bromwich

Brilliant pub, well worth seeking out for food 'til late in evening, mainly curries. The guest beer also well served, can't fault, apart from only one available.
And a comfortable mix with friendly alcohol drinking and meat eating Asian Indian folk, young and elderly, white locals, families, workers, business people, No attitude or weird looks.
Recomended!

12 Nov 2006 23:23

The Lowes Arms, Denton

very good beer and above average food, usually,
well run pub,
Waterfall feature is a waste a space and money, it looks so old hat and tacky, shame because a bit of original thought put into it then an opportunity for something decent maybe?
No LAB beers at present, but very decent Phoenix ales.

26 Sep 2006 21:51

The Freshfield Hotel, Formby

Visited today after reading the reveiws here and travelling over 100 miles.
Kids not permitted at all inside except to use the loos but loud swearing is permitted throughout.
At first the staff appeared to be a bit arrogant and troubled by the slightest request of others.
However I received a professional enough service and the food was very good.
The beer was also good as I expected for a real ale pub but the big suprise was it was very clean and tidy, customers too look like they'd made an effort. Certainly not the usual scruffy miserable, roll-up smoking weirdy beards you get in most real ale pubs.
Worth visiting if you are ever in the Formby area.

17 Sep 2006 18:00

The Causeway, Audenshaw

No longer a pub but 'The Pearl' asian restuarant to go with the several others recently added to the area.

6 Sep 2006 00:23

The Figure of Eight, Birmingham

Food and Abbott Ale, Directors Ales were very good, bit of a suprise really, the chef knew how to cook steak rare, which is rare, for a Wetherspoons. Visited here because hungry and late, they serve food til 11pm.
But parking was near impossible in all surrounding areas even at gone 9:30 at night on a Tuesday so unlikely to return and the pub itself was a bit scruffy with half the food tables uncleared and uncleaned.
On the whole especially the food better than avaerage Wetherspoons

30 Aug 2006 03:19

The Rope and Anchor, Dunham Massey

posh area, looks a really nice place but a bit quiet on Weds eve.
Curry night; 5 curry and a pint, pale ale was fine but curry was shite. not enough meat...
loads of rice but can't moan for the price.

Think I'm gonna start rappin'.....need sum drum 'n' bass.

25 Aug 2006 23:13

Sir Titus Salt, Bradford

asked the barmaid to recomend one of the guest ales last night. She didn't really have a clue but said 'that one's funny'. What do ya mean Why? 'Cause it has a funny name'
Okay we'll try 2 pints of ButtCume please.
She started giggling then the barman started and then 2 guys next to us roared about laughing and so on.

It turned out to be a good choice so I returned for more. Obviously not making the mistake the second time I asked for a pint of 'that' bitter please to a different barmaid, 'Which one?' she asked as if I couldn't read, 'that one' I pointed.
'Is that all, anything else?' That's all thanks....oh no sorry forgot, a small coke, with ice, and lemon for my boyfriend,......he's had enough buttcume for now!

last time I came here was 1994 and an empty baths hall up for development. we crammed about 300 people in for an allnight party. Wetherspoons have done a very good job here retaining and renovating much of the cast iron columns and arches. Worth a visit mid week when quiet and easy service/parking etc. Staff at least have a good sense of humour.

23 Aug 2006 11:45

The White Hart, Whitechapel

Some of you are getting this White Hart confused with the rough one up the road near the Blind Beggar.
This one is at 89 Whitechapel High Street and never seen any chavs or trouble.
London Pride on top form this week as well as most excellent Thai chicken from the new Thai menu served 'til 10pm.!! complete with gorgeous Thai waitress.

20 Aug 2006 15:40

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

Unlike many decent real ale pubs serving top quality pints this one is also very clean and tidy, behind the bar was spotless and the no swearing throughout and no smoking areas were appreciated.
First visit and took ages to find because of all the roadworks and diversions and getting out of the area was just as bad, which isn't a good idea when you're in the middle of a red-light area at night driving around slowly.

7 Mar 2006 23:18

The Star Inn, Glossop

Top Ale, smokey joint, friendly landlady but not too sure of the tubby hubby, he needs to cheer up a bit or let me guess....... some of the customers are very boring, smoke roll-ups, complain about 2 a pint, don't make an effort to change clothes and there's no women in his pub....
Otherwise great!

9 Feb 2006 01:04

Goose At The Fighting Cocks, Moseley

Agree with Muzthingy that the interior is a bit special and worth a look, pity there's no picture here to have a little sample for bite members. Decent pint of Bass last night, only 1.40

16 Dec 2005 10:34

The Spread Eagle, Gailey

think this is a chain pub and if so it's a big suprise, as staff are very pleasant and good food/beer is value, not once but on several visits during M6 journeys, just exit Junc 12 westerly one mile.

15 Dec 2005 13:31

The Swan, Whiston

excellent pub. Very well run and worth finding. Great ale, food, staff are very polite and professional. Highley recomend!

15 Dec 2005 13:24

Railway Inn, Penkridge

very friendly and welcoming owners and locals. beer could be improved but not bad. rate 6 because 5 and a half can't do

15 Dec 2005 13:21

The Ash Tree, Ashton Under Lyne

Do the staff here not get paid for the extra hour they put in! You'd think not, miserable lot. And how dumb can they be, a hand pull pump with a Boddingtons Cask badge showing and not 1 but 2 bar staff said 'we don't do Boddies' despite being shown the pump they still argued they don't do it, so don't bother complaining because the staff ain't bothered, just drink and eat elsewhere. (future tip: The Angel)

13 Dec 2005 00:05

The Red Deer, Sheffield

perfect pint of Timbo Taylors Landlord and no students on my visit yesterday.

7 Dec 2005 23:37

Baileys, Oldham

been here as well and it's for chavs, defo, innit!

7 Dec 2005 22:22

Baileys, Oldham

hey this place ain't for free advertising, pay up cheapskate!! I've been her and it's utter biz, beer non exists, fizzy cold water!! AVOID!!

7 Dec 2005 22:20

The Harewood Arms, Broadbottom

Rare to rate a pub so highly but this one has the right mix thanks to Landlord Kev, with no chavs or idiots and an excellent consistent quality pint. Good home made food and a warm welcome, kids and pets not a problem. It's the lincensing Ministers local so unfortunately he might pop in...you can't have everything.

7 Dec 2005 09:52

The White Hart, Mottram

dont rely on the new council cctv outside to keep out mongs........suppose it's hard work. slipped a bit since summer.

1 Dec 2005 18:43

The Buffet Bar, Stalybridge

There's only one good reason to go here, brilliant ale. No other reason, but thats good enough. It's boring, un-original train related trash, scruffy drinkers who don't wash their hair, no seriously some smelly people go in here, cheapskates everywhere, then even worse James 'the coward' Stannage does a quiz here and that MP James Hypocrit Purnell can be found, well he can go to hell. Arty farty boring lefty wierdy beards you would never trust meet up here, trouble causers. The only females are the pleasant staff, god knows how they put up with such freaks. Folk music!! please no!
Otherwise a very nice place.

1 Dec 2005 17:15

The J P Joule, Sale

If you could upload pictures here I'd show you tonights helping of food before a refund was demanded. The camera phone picture was taken to complain to wetherspoons HQ but I can't be bothered doing them any favours with free customer research., I'll just not visit again, Only one beer from 7 pumps as well, a poor marstons Pedigree unfortunately. Last visit sorry. I'll pay more and go to the Kings Ranson across the way.

1 Dec 2005 00:52

The White Hart, Mottram

At least someone looks at this site and takes notice. Thanks J W Lees Brewery for introducing Zero Tolerance (as I suggested below). Now all you need to do is ban them miserable lefty council pricks (for being ugly and offensive for starters)and match the beer quality of previous boss and you're on a winner. Good luck.

12 May 2005 17:45

The Black Bull, Whitechapel

visited again 10-5-05 and bit dissappointed...not as friendly as before.....punters okay but tubby arrogant barman with specs was a bit of a bellend...yeah you fatso!..you spoil a good pub. Beer ok but not the standard of last visit... talking of standards why is nowt done abouut the smell in Brick Lane and garbage everywheres and all those illegal mini-cab drivers pestering you...you gettin' on me titz.

12 May 2005 17:32

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

quality pint....interesting place worth a visit, no party girls or loud mad man on our visit so a little dissappointed...Visit again in the summer!

30 Mar 2005 12:54

The Black Bull, Whitechapel

Good pub. No allround very good pub. First visit and friendly, excellent beer, nice and clean. Nothing like the smelly Blind Beggar up the road.

29 Mar 2005 21:59

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

Stinks of pee. NO SERIOUSLY. very bad smell of pee and NO excuse, not even busy. Beer flat and no fit bar staff to be seen as reported here. Big let down.

29 Mar 2005 21:26

The Derby Brewery Arms, Manchester

Large, clean, grand style Holts' pub. Worth travelling 1 mile north from Manchester city centre. Create your own atmosphere in here.

1 Feb 2005 22:54

The White Hart, Whitechapel

Managed to slip in here before last orders on Thursday night.Lucky to find it, shame there was no Adnams but 2 pints of London Pride followed by a curry on Brick Lane, mmm...pretty good. Have you seen the new style laid back policemen in the area with their open neck casual shirts, floppy trunchens eating crisps in their toned-down people friendly police cars? what's all that about? there's pimps, crack dealers, muggers, beggers, prostitutes all over the place. And no wonder traffic can't move, every bit of road has been turned into a bus lane that's hardly used.

1 Feb 2005 00:45

Goose At The Fighting Cocks, Moseley

Visited the fighting cocks tonight. No problem serving food late on and beer on form.(Bass & Speckled Hen)Old pictures on the wall depict a Victorian Small Heath area which looked cleaner and friendlier than the tip it is today. Felt a bit sorry for the ageing locals, but this pub seems a good place. Would go again.

1 Feb 2005 00:16

The Walkabout, Wolverhampton

walk in, walkabout, walk right out.

24 Jan 2005 14:05

Old Moseley Arms, Balsall Heath

Good find this pub.First visit last night. Decent pint, one half of the pub several barge owners were sipping halves other side stranger mix of students, locals and a couple business people. Fake coal fire and Landlord supping Carling were the only let downs. Went off to find another pub in the area and came back here for last orders.

22 Jan 2005 14:34

The Black Swan, Bradford

Friendly enough considering it's location. Beer ok to a bit better than ok. I would visit again if there were less pubs. room for improvement but god knows how?? topless barmaids? not the ones already employed I hope.

18 Jan 2005 22:39

Bar Fringe, Manchester

No you can't trust that beer guide can you. Agree, beer's crap in here but also crap at Bar Centro who also in the kamra mag but not the guide, maybe, dunno do I? Never bean English Lounge? location?

12 Jan 2005 15:14

The Witchwood, Ashton Under Lyne

Great pub, great beer. Hats off to hard-working owners and pleasant staff. Great ale lover characters like wobbly-bob and cask club Graham but too many Freinds of the Earth wierdos and boring strange beard tree people. Some half decent bands as well. Unfortunately it's got a cheapstake reputation so I'd be in favour of increasing prices.(slightly). Good initial support from regulars for Save the Witchwood campaign but again these Freinds of the Earth cheapskates are just all talk. Perhaps they could chain themselves to the chimney in protest and stay up there 'til the bulldozers turn up.

11 Jan 2005 17:43

Haigy's, Manningham

good beer and late licence everyday. Landlord is strict so no Knob Heads and he looks dead grumpy but he's ok. Last 2 visits he kindly provided a sausage supper (big juicy home-made type)althogh no food is on offer. Believe me after curry upon curry in Bradford you'd welcome a tasty sausage.

11 Jan 2005 17:19

The New Beehive Inn, Bradford

Great character and excellent ale. But looking at the owners and staff totally amazed a good pint is possible. Quite a few ugly faces in here but that's usual for Bradford and makes me look handsome. It's got cheap clean accomodation too which could be handy if your beer goggles get to work. Definately one of the strangest pubs I've visited and the beer is ace!! (regular camera listed I think)

11 Jan 2005 17:13

Blue Pig (Hungry Horse), Audenshaw

The landlord trys hard to be professional which he is to a point but a shame the handpump is just for show most of the time and when they rarely do have beer it's poor condition.Food is good and plenty of it but not as tasty as the barmaids who although fairly clueless do add fun. Busy enough for proper beer and expect people would eventually return if decent pints were served. This is a good pub if not that thirsty. only rating 4/10 so something to aim for improvement here.

11 Jan 2005 16:38

The Orange Rooms, Southampton

total bizz. no beer at all. full of ponces and posers. joke. decor already out-dated.Who said a Raleigh Chopper would look cool? not very original. The future's not orange, it's the exit door! We asked the taxi driver for a busy club he must mis-heard as a bizz club.

11 Jan 2005 14:02

The Circus Tavern, Manchester

if you are a big fat sod go and find another bar to drink in

11 Jan 2005 13:32

The City Darts, Whitechapel

Reasonable pub, better if you like throwing darts about. Better pint than crap 10 Bells on last occassion

11 Jan 2005 13:16

The Ten Bells, Shoreditch

jack the Ripp Off beer prices charged by dull uninterested staff. Poor pint. Bunch of tossers drinking puffy drinks. Bring back the jack the STRIPPERS!!

11 Jan 2005 12:49

The White Hart, Mottram

Best pint of Brewers Gold for miles and it's been reduced from 170 a pint to just 1.90. Landlord is genuine nice guy but needs to introduce zero tolerance, soon. Unfortunately this pub has a 'Jekyll and Hyde' personality miserable 'communist party headquarters' atmosphere one evening and trashy cheap Kareokee with wannabe gangster characters another night, which is a great shame as the beer is always top form. Definately worth visiting.

11 Jan 2005 12:33

The Bull, Birmingham

Excellent ales and the late food policy is a winner, not too sure about the over the top jug display though. Who's going to travel miles to view some tatty old jugs?, whereas the beer and food are well worth travelling for. Pleasant staff, good attitude. Highly rate overall. (I've seen some different jugs in the back kitchen I would'nt mind taking a closer look at!)

11 Jan 2005 12:09

The Fighting Cock, Bradford

Excellent ales and knowledgeable friendly staff, would definately visit again, although lacks any female presence and tunes on the jukebox a bit dated. The b&w photos very interesting but display of old bottles/currency notes/beer mats totally un-original and boring.Like many real ale houses this one could do with a touch more life and a bit of humour instead of a Greenpeace meeting atmosphere. But I bet it's different again on a busy weekend and can't wait to find out, anyway the beer's the most important and I'd rate it 'The Best Pint in Bradford'....so far.
