Chandlers, Ealing

I could not agree more with the previous comment. The wine that I ordered was WELL off and it was all so much hastle to change it. I had arrived 20 minutes early to meet my boyfriend and the attitude of all of the bar staff stank, they sniggered at me and stared at me as if I was an alien. It was only once my partner arrived and they realised that I was not a women out drinking alone that they began to treat me like a human. however by this time I was more than ready to move on and never return.

Can think of a few Young's pubs in West London :

The Grange - Ealing
Coach and Horses - Isleworth
Thatched House & Hammersmith Ram - Hammersmith
Jolly Gardeners - Richmond

It's okay, nice decor but thinks far too much of itself - I think at almost 4 a pint I won't be coming here often. Nice cocktails though, if a bet steep at 6.80.

Now the smoking ban is here you can stench the men's bogs a mile off. Not even good fot late night drunken Thursday's anymore as they tend to close at 11:30pm

Fantastic - What a seriously great improvement

What the hell have they done to this pub - the new 'buzzing' atmosphere is a catastrophe. Full of high people who dance very badly. I ended up bruised just walking to the loo and back. Manners must be unfashionable and the beer has gone totally downhill. I will NEVER NEVER return to this hellish place.

I agree the refurb has done wonders for the look of the place, the table service is a bit higgledy piggledy but I think that it is probably teething problems as we went on the first saturday night and the manager also told us there had been a problem with the licence and they would have to close earlier than expected. However despite these minor hitches I had a really good time and I am looking forward to going back.

They rip you off in the sense that you set up a tab at your table and do not realise how ridiculously overpriced the drinks are until the end of your night when you get your bill.

They have now got a lot more tables outside (and a lot less parking spaces) to come in line with the upcoming smoking ban.

Has had a refurb and I would say it is a major improvement, wooden floors, matching furniture and loads of standing room. I got a really nice Vodka Lime and soda (mixed just right) and my boyfriend said his pint was nice and crisp. Toilets have been painted but are still not very nice

Visited it as the new Slug and Lettuce. If you have not yet been I would say Don't bother. The atmosphere has changed beyond recognition and definitely in a good way

I like this pub, the beer is good (if very overpriced) and crisp, tastes very fresh and its a pleasure to sit out on the heated terrace. The only downside is that the waiter service takes forever!

Okay Tues 16th January, blimey!!!!!!!!!!!! As I read the comments first time round, don't need to read them and still don't see the need for you to mention your 'white' friends just cos a few previous posts had talked about colour. Do you own this place or something? You are very defensive?? Actually don't answer that, didn't appreciate the tone of your last back lash. I am entitled to an opinion and mine is that barracuda is a scuddy place to ge regardless of who you go with or what colour you are!!

I was persuaded to go for a late drink here on Tuesday 16th Feb, it was an ok night but that was because we (all 4 of us) were the only people in here. So i do believe that perhaps Stanley1980 and his 'white' mates (what difference does it make what colour you are?) does not come here 'every' Tuesday. In spite of us or perhaps because we were the only people there the drinks were ridicously and very randomly priced each round. They closed quite understandably just before1am.

I was back in here for a quick bite the other afternoon, my boyfriend and I both had the steak and we could not get over how yummy it was, we were stuffed as we had polished off the lot but as their desserts are to die for we had to share one of those too. We were served by a lovely new barmaid, their was a good crowd in, the vodkas, soda and limes are cheap and we got hooked on the quiz game. Hence we never got back from finishing our lunch break and spent the rest of the evening here. Oh well the house can be done up another day, I am sure we will get to live there eventually. Opps

Although the Star was flat, the pub was nice and cosy, the staff were polite and the clientele seemed to be mainly made up of locals. the menu looked nice although we got there at 10pm and this was too late to order any food. I will definitely put this down to the gas/beer being off/just a dodgy night and come again. Sitting in a very overheated pub (as it was baking) and paying 3.30 a pint you want a cold fresh one. Somehow even with all the niggly little things I did like The bridge and would be keen to come back hopefully for a better experience. Oh yeah they do beef jerky as well which according to my mate is a big selling point.

Ha Ha, Ealing

Why anyone would bring their child to a pub like Ha Ha's is beyond me, especially when Wapole Park is 200m away from there, seems a bit irresponsible. Also although I detest Ha Has on a Fri and Sat night it has nothing to do with the Asian people in there, you get good and bad in all sorts of people regardless of there ethnic origin. Surely someone who chooses to live in London would have gotten passed this small mindedness and appreciate our multicultural society. I am blessed to have friends from all kinds of backgrounds and race imaginable and this certainly makes my life richer and me a more tolerant and cultured individual. Perhaps you are just ignorant Bernard. This pub can be okay in the daytime when it is pretty much empty and you managed to get served but even then i would avoid anything on tap.

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford

I visited for the first time last Thursday 17th August along with two friends and we had a superb time, we found the Magpie to be just what you want in a great pub, friendly staff and locals who all had a few words for us, good old fashioned fun music and superb beer/ale to suit everyones preference (the late licence is a bonus too). There are far too few real gems like this in London. Well worth a visit, we can't wait to go back !!!

The service in this pub is terrible, there are three bars, yet the three members of staff that were serving when we came here squashed themselves into one end of one bar and served there, regardless of who was next, when challenged by everyone else who wasn,t in that bar yet still wanting a drink (duh! we did come to the pub after all) one barman totally ignored everyone and the two barmaids were unbelievebly rude. A regular said that it is the same every evening. We left in the end, I dread to think how long food would take to order and arrive if after being stood at the bar foe 25 minutes you still have not been served. A shame because this pub has the potential to really be something!

The best bloody Mary's I have ever tasted in my life, the bar staff are not frightened to make them spicy and they are not too pricey considering considering this is such a classy bar.

Ha Ha, Ealing

Oh My Oh My Oh My, The music is good but that is it!!! I waited 50 minutes to get served at a sticky bar with glass all over the floor, whilst watching the bar staff sticking to the middle of the bar and totally ignoring everyone waiting at either end, regardless of who was first. I have worked as a part time barmaid in the evenings on and off for years and it is not a difficult task to scan the bar and keep a mental list in your head of who is next and after that and so on. I would have walked out only we were a group of 18 celebrating a mates 30th. ( Bet he wished he went somewhere else for the big 30 huh!! ) Also I know in this situation you cannot be picky but try to avoid the small asian barmaid with the bob as she took 15mins to serve me 4 drinks, all JD and coke which she poured one at a time (eg ice in, JD in then coke in and bring it over to me, then repeated this process 3 more times, bless but duh!)

The food in here was dire and they served us warm wine with it, you have to pay for condiments

The White Hart, Hanwell

This is a truly afwul pub, frequented by unber 18 chavs or pensioners only it seems. There are three bars one large but everyone seems to squash themselves into the smaller one on a residential road and driving there cars up and down a near by alley showing off. If you have the mentality of a 16 year old or love horse-racing then fine come here and you'll love it, everyone else you are better off giving it a miss.

The Shanakee, Ealing

I think that as soon as people see an Irish theme pub they assume that the Guiness is great and the brain is fooled into thinking that it tastes better than any of the other local bars, when in truth the guiness in here ain't all that!

Berlins, Doncaster

Don't be put off by the fact that the people who come in here seem to use the words 'wicked' and 'bangin' and don't wear coats in winter. The music really is varied and good and the people are generally sound. It is worth coming here for a late drink and dance.

1 Mar 2006 10:26

The Myllet Arms, Greenford

The staff in this pub are so unbelievably rude, when there are 3 bar staff and you at the bar that all stare through you and it takes several 'Excuse me's' (on my part) and many many 'yeah wait a sec'on the staffs part and then maybe 20 minutes later you will be begrudingly served. The only okayish elements to this pub are the cheap food and the Wacky Warehouse and even these are vastly improved at the nearby Ballot Box where they are not shy about serving you and bringing hot food to your table.

The Pleasure Boat, Alperton

This used to be a really scummy pub back in the late 90's, does anyone know how it is now since the new management have taken over? I still can't quite bring myself to go back!

Ashbys, West Ealing

I used to avoid this pub as it had a bit of a rough rep but over the last year or so I have been pleaseantly suprised. The bar staff are friendly and familiar the drinks are reasonably priced and although it is not really a cocktail kinda place they are happy to have a bash at them and they are more often then not spot on. There is a pool table and a juke box but nobody fights over them and therefore you can enjoy a game. There a big squashy chairs by an open fire for a cosy drink with a group of mates or a more secluded area at the back for a quiet private drink. Open mike nights and Karoke entertain those looking for something a bit more lively. A rooftop beer garden is avaliable in the summer. Now I will stop singing Ashbys but would defo say to try their great krone extra cold.
