The Swan In The Rushes, Loughborough

I was a regular in the late 80's as a student, occasional visitor when at local conf centre. Its still one of my favourite pubs anywhere.

Enter in the centre and go left for lounge and right for public, excellent beer selection, good staff. Wish it was at the end of my road.

Enjoy whilst such pubs last

The Atrium Bar at South Hill Park, Bracknell

Been going for years, bot pre and post "re furb" its lost its mojo, it is crowded at weekends and no longer the melting pot it was. Beer is usually ok, staff friendly, food looks fine. Nice when quiet, perhaps for a coffee on a sunny lunch time outside of term time. Would be tempted to drink at a local estate pub to avoid the families

The Silver Birch, Birch Hill

It might well look "Chav tastic" but pretty friendly, with football, and a quiz. If you are around, it can be nicer than South hill Park bar, which is now essentially spoiled

The Dog Inn and Restaurant, Old Sodbury

Good value for food during the week, all seems fresh cooked, offers take away fish and chips too, though not sampled. Popular in evenings with good selection of beer and adequate cider. You might struggle for a table on a busy night. Still ok for just a drink, nice fire in winter

Popular with walkers during day. Worth stopping for

The Beaufort Hunt, Chipping Sodbury

One of the quieter pubs in Chipping Sodbury, least when I've been in. Front and rear bar and outside space. nice pint, polite staff

The Royal Oak, Chipping Sodbury

Nice pub with a good range of beer, three last weekend, in good condition (well the two tried) It's quite lively, majoring on being a drinkers pub, football was on, but not rowdy. In the times I've been in staff and drinkers pleasant.

The Squire Inn, Chipping Sodbury

The Squire is probably the best all round pub in Chipping Sodbury high street. It has a good selection of ales from Wickwar Brewery and elsewhere and a load of ciders with Old Rosie on draught on occasions, which is nice

Mixed clientele, with Sky TV for sports. Staff seem pretty friendly and as a couple in our forties is where we would generally go if we are walking into town. Not eaten there - but an extensive menu and friends have reported favourably on the food.

Has been smartened up, returning drinkers from over a year or so might be disappointed that its so bright, but its generally clean and pleasant.

Worth a visit

The Bell Hotel, Chipping Sodbury

Now under new ownership (November 10) It is aimed more at the diner than the drinker. Usually has two ales on, one from Bath Ales and a varied other. In good nick when I visited. Also two ciders, Stowford Press being one. Usual range of lager and bottles. Good looking but not cheap wine list, i.e. no cheap plonk!

If you are not eating there is a nice fire area and a good choice of tables. The pub has sports on the tvs if that's your thing but not at intrusive noise levels

The food is not trying to be cheap and cheerful, I had an excellent gammon with all the needed "sides" - well cooked and my partner had a belly of pork dish which she reported as delicious.

Good service, if occasionally a wee bit dotty. Not a downside as I rather hate over perfect service! Happy to return any time if this std is maintained. As this pub is out of Chipping Sodbury it is less prone to Friday night crowding and as its 30 seconds from my front door, glad is a viable alternative to walk into town

Kings Arms, Bideford

Visited 2 and 3 Oct 2009. Good selection of ales, the local Grenville beer was tried and was in fine fettle, could have had Broadside, Youngs, Doombar amongst the six on. Thatchams premium on tap and the usual 166, Guinness etc.

Busy on Saturday, but service good and atmosphere mellow and a better choice than most other town centre pubs, that said, out of season , Bideford is pretty mellow

Will return on next visit
