JJ Moons, Tooting

Many years ago there was a fatal stabbing in this pub by elderly gentlemen over a game of dominoes. The atmosphere in here can change very quickly and it can attract the nastier element of Tooting dole scum. But the staff do try. I was in there in January lunchtime and had a nice pint. i did want to visit the
Tramshed but that was closed due to there being a Mother & Toddlers group being held there in the afternoon!!!

The Moon Under Water, Balham

Here is where old folks, and the debris of post industrial Britain come to drink cheaply in their declining years before they die. This is a very small pub and OK for a quick tipple during beer festivals, although the best beers never seem to make it to here, they always seems to be the lower strength ones. Perhaps the managememt do not want to serve strong ales here, doubt if the old folks would care anyway. Perhaps I am just a snob, maybe i will end up here one day trying to eke out my pension. I live locally and it is handy for me!

The Railway, Putney

Upspstairs in this pub and at the rear of the ground floor in the booths and seated area is quite nice, but the ground floor of this pub attracts the nastier element of Wethies customer, and I have seen trouble kick off here on more than one occasion. OK for a discrete pint at lunchtime and can have a good range of real ales sometimes.

The Rocket , Putney

Agree with other reviewers. This is a posh Wetherspoons, aimed at the gliteratti and business/professional/ well healed market and does not want some of the chavier types that Wethies sometimes attracts - see the other Wetherspoons pub in Putney, the Railway Arms which can be seriously frightening at times. The Rocket has expensive food - but standard priced drinks -and if you look carefully on the menu you will see that a lot of it is standard Wethies fare with a posh label. But it has a nice location and lots of lovely comfy seats and the staff try to please. One even offered to fetch me a refill from the bar when he saw me sitting in a booth with an empty glass. i would have fallen over had i not been seated. This place must heave on summer evenings. i went at Friday lunch in January &it was literally deserted.

The Royal Oak, Borough

I visited this pub, for the second time, on a Friday lunchtime. It is a small pub, in Victorian style, and the clients were a mix of young office worker types and midde aged wannabies, seriously, when I was there. But pleasant enough. I asked for a pint of Tom Paine export ale and after I started to drink it, the landlord confiscated it as it was cloudy and served me someting else. Later he give me a freebie half of the original which is a very nice touch in these money grubbing days. The best feature is the food. Portions are enormous and it is real food cooked in a real kitchen. I had sea bass with potatoes and veggies for just under 11. I saw doorstep sandwiches served up, the food is hale and hearty. Had a nice pint of Fullers Porter(not cheap) but quality. Let us hope this pub keeps up the quality and does not get overwhelmed by its popularity

The Antelope, Belgravia

I popped in here for a lunchtime drink mid-week. The food was pleasant and seemed home cooked, rather than the usual cook/chill. Had a nice bacon and brie sarnie. Not cheap but value for money & good for this touristy area. Genuine old pub, lots of nooks and crannies, rather rickety. Pleasant ambiance, albeit lots of hooray harry business types. Staff pleasant. A lovely pint of Fullers ESB, nice leather chairs and fire. This is a small pub though there seems to be an upstairs bar with basic seating. Recommended. Careful with the stairs!
