The Travellers Rest, Durham

I can categorically say I was not in the Woodman Inn, nor was I in the Age Bar and Kitchen (as it was closed), the Travellers is now a building society. Travel further up claypath into gilesgate and you'll see the remnants, it still has the old lamp as part of the fixtures of the building

The Shakespeare Tavern, Durham

I've got to say this is a strong candidate for best pub in Durham. The locals are a bit despondent, but the alcohol is top notch!

Funnily enough, we encountered some of the 'Durham brats' students while in there, hilarious eavesdropping 'norm should be here, but he's shooting in Ireland'.

The Orange Brewery, Belgravia

Friendly staff, even if they had trouble with Geordie accents. Locals were somewhat nonchalant but not unfriendly as such. They need to start brewing their own beers again!

The Three Tuns, Gateshead

cracking live music. They've really turned this place around.

The Aletaster, Low Fell

Although I'm slightly bitter about the fact they forgot I had an interview for a job at this place, they keep the best ales in Gateshead - possibly Tyneside. Well worth a visit if you can ignore the tacky Newcastle United paraphenalia - or alternatively, just show your red and white stripes and maybe the landlord will take a hint.

The Travellers Rest, Durham

It most certainly isn't the Age Bar and Kitchen! Went to Durham on a pub crawl, and found the Age conspicuously closed. Went in here instead and it was fantastic! A healthy range of well kept Durham ales and an extremely friendly lass behind the bar. Also has a pool table and dart board, both of which I experienced heavy losses on. I also bizzarely seem to remember a popcorn machine.
