The Old Windmill, Coventry

This pub has just been awarded the pub of the year for Coventry.
Still selling 8 fine real ales + ciders. Does some great pork pies .
The first pub to visit , you may not get to any others!

Seven Stars, Rugby

This pub has been brought back to life by a tasteful refit by Banks and Taylor , after a few years in the doldrums . With 12 hand pulls of constantly changing quality beers , it is a must visit when in town . The landlord is friendly and enthusiastic about beer ( even brews beer himself ) .

The Merchants Inn, Rugby

The best pub in Rugby , fine selection of good quality ales . At least 9 ales plus a good choice of ciders , bottled Belgian beers , and good food . Has a few Beer Festivals each year , with about 100 ales in each . Pub memorabilia is everywhere so you will not get bored while drinking your beer , ( check out the jokes on the toilet walls ) .

The Gatehouse Tavern, Coventry

Well worth a visit , had 6 ales on when I called in . The three I had were all of good quality and not over priced , they even run a loyalty card to save even more . This is a free house so the beers are regularly changing . Nice in the summer to sit outside in the biggest pub garden in town .

The Whitefriars Olde Ale House, Coventry

I used to frequent this pub regularly , but not so much now . The choice of ales has become less and of poorer quality . There are better pubs in town , so if things do not improve I will have to drop this from my crawl .

The Old Windmill, Coventry

The oldest pub in town. Very good choice of real ales , Theakston Old Peculier my favourite with Taylor Landlord ( from the barrel ) a close second. There are 7 hand pulls with Doom Bar , Old Speckled Hen , Hobgoblin , plus three changing guest beers. Show a Camra card and get 10% discount .Friendly bar staff , top quality beer . The pub is situated on a street full of historic buildings , a must for tourists to the to the city to visit .

The Pied Bull, Chester

Spent two nights here , staff great , food great, beer splendid. They had three of their own beers plus four guests. They were all in fine condition. A must visit in Chester.

The Blue Bell, York

Very interesting pub, two rooms with one bar serving both sides. Friendly barmaid serving a selection of local and guest beers ( 6 on our visit). Seemed a tight fit when it got busy. Well worth a visit.

The Fox and Roman, York

Four of us visited this hostelry twice while visiting York. There was a good selection of beers, we tried four of the six on offer and all were well kept. We wanted T- bones on our first visit but they had sold out. We askedif we could have them for the following night. They agreed and when we arrived the next night they cooked the steaks to perfection! So great food, great beers = four happy customers.

The Winter Gardens, Harrogate

The usual stunning JDW building. Wide range of beers all in good condition. We were served quickly despite the pub being very busy (Saturday lunchtime).

Hales Bar, Harrogate

Nipped in here with a friend while the wives went shopping. What a surprise! We turned into the righthand door to find room unchanged from before I was born. There were 3 sets of triple gas fired lights on the ceiling plus 2 tall naked flames on the bar. Very Victorian! Three young barmaids were very helpful offering beer tasting before deciding on which of the six beers available.

22 Mar 2010 17:39

The Old Bell Tavern, Harrogate

Came here on a day trip, love the way it is set up. The Bar is busy and the side room is nice to read the paper. Good range of beers, all kept well. Definately one NOT to miss if you come to Harrogate.

The Little Pack Horse, Bewdley

Called in here for a quick pint while the wife went shopping. Going in the door marked Surgery threw me for a second but what a delightful pub inside. Not as small as you first see as it spreads into more rooms. Two beers on(I was sure I read it was 3-4) had a half of each, both well kept the Rev James being my fav.

4 Jan 2010 16:02

The Mug House Inn, Bewdley

Stayed here over the New Year. Had agreat time. The rooms are very big with all you need for your stay including a fridge (more use in the summer). The food was good including the service. They had three ales on all top quality.

4 Jan 2010 15:51

The George Hotel, Bewdley

Called in just after New Year. Very good Wetherspoons pub, good selection of beers , but as usual only Abbot and two guest on. The rest coming soon! I will give it that it was just after Xmas and a week day, but could do better as my old teacher used to say.

The Royal Oak, Lostwithiel

What a shame! Looks a great pub,but dont venture inside if you want a rel ale. Tried both beers on tap both rubbish. Went back at the end of holiday, no beer on told to come back in an hour two new beers going on.Went back later, one beer on, looked like pond water tasted like pond water. Will never go back.

20 Sep 2009 12:01

The Globe Inn, Lostwithiel

Best pub in Lostwithiel, very much food based,we had two meals here both times all four of us very pleased. Had three real ales on, tried them all. This pub ticks all the boxes don't miss it.

20 Sep 2009 11:49

Earl of Chatham, Lostwithiel

This pub has a very friendly welcome,a true locals meeting place. Had three cornish ales all well kept. No food, pool table, small garden in rear.

20 Sep 2009 11:42

The Fat Cat, Norwich

Still the best pub I have ever visited! Caters for all drinking tastes do not know how he keeps track on his ordering running 2 pubs and a brewery? If you are anywhere near this pub you must go and see for yourself.

30 Mar 2009 14:04

The White Lion, Norwich

Just been to a beer festival here. Over 30 beers ,all the ones we tried were good quality . The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Was told it is now run as a Milton Brewery pub . Was also informed it will have 6 Milton beers plus 2 guests after the festival.Coming back next month so will update on progress!

The Cape of Good Hope, Warwick

Lovely pub , right on the canal. Had Sunday lunch here the food was very good and not too pricy! 6 real ales on ( one out of the barrel ) all good condition. A lot of new building going on locally so might change in the near future.

The Queen Victoria, Leicester

Bells Brewery now own this pub, looks like work is ongoing to improve this pub to its former glory! A beer festival was on when we arrived, 20+ beers all in good condition. The barstaff were friendly and helpful. I wish Bells luck in this venture and will return soon to see how they are progressing. I was told yhey have another pub in Leicester and will soon be brewing here as well.

28 Feb 2009 12:12

The Globe, Leicester

A very nice City Center pub, good food plus full range of Everards beers and three guests. Clean , smart and inviting . Unusual for a town pub.

28 Feb 2009 12:01

The Ale Wagon, Leicester

A hoskins pub with 5 of their own beers plus 2 guests. Not a very inviting pub , the beers I tried were all of good quality. The barmaid was friendly but the pub itself seemed aloof! Very old looking interior could do with a bit of TLC to cheer it up. Worth a look in if in the area.

28 Feb 2009 11:56

The Whitefriars Olde Ale House, Coventry

A very good pub if you like to sample different real ales. As it's a free house any beer is available! I have recomended a few beers to try and they have had them on as soon as they were available. Large area to sit outside ( could do with tidying ), great in the summer. Can have up to nine ales on but tend to keep only five on unless it gets busy. Food on at dinner only.

23 Feb 2009 16:18

The Nursery Tavern, Coventry

This pub is starting to feel a bit tired. The beer is good but the selecting is getting too predictable. Also not being a free house the prices are a bit steep! If something does not change soon I feel this pub will struggle in these hard times. There are up to six (I think) beers on all good as usual, and the Winter Festival was very good last year.

23 Feb 2009 16:08

The Gatehouse Tavern, Coventry

Well worth a visit, largest outdoor garden in the city. Five real ales on now, Bass seems a regular, with four local brewery beers changing. Owner very friendly and helpful. Has a very good range of food. Has sport on the tv, and a large rugby following so all matches on live!

23 Feb 2009 15:58

The Craven Arms, Coventry

A good local,up to five real ales on, Sarah Hughes mild plus two regular bitters and two changing. Just finish a makeover, now looks neat and clean. Good outside area for smokers.

23 Feb 2009 15:49

Biggin Hall, Coventry

This pub has recently changed ownership. The new manager has done a lot of upgrades,(building and design) some still ongoing. Still has marsdons pedigree and best plus a guest. All were good, so that's an improvement! Will keep you posted on any other changes.

23 Feb 2009 15:39

The Monks Retreat, Reading

There was a beer fest on when we arrived so we all took up the offer of trying 3 x 1/3 glasses. Great way to try more beers! All were well kept. The service was good and helpful. With the prices so high for food and beer in Reading I am surprised at people knocking these pubs.

11 Nov 2008 16:17

The Hope Tap, Reading

Cheap food and beer.We all tried different beers on offer and found all to be of fine quality. Why do so many people have it in for these pubs?

The Beer Engine, Coventry

Still Drinking Here,Blacksheep bitter is the regular with six ever changing beers to choose from. Now the smoking ban is in, the garden nearly all taken over for smokers, hope it changes if we get any summer this year!Quality of beer still good, pipes cleaned befor every beer change.Ian the manager DOES drink the beer and can be a little moody but I have always found him friendly.Still allows food to be drought in from the many eating outlets locally.Live music every saturday and sometimes on friday. May not be the most palacious pub, but always a friendly welcome I found.

30 Mar 2008 14:32

The decor not up to much, but the great selection of beers made up for it.
We found all the beers to be of good quality,(that we tried too many for one vist)will be back soon to try some more!
Staff friendly and helpful.

30 Mar 2008 11:36

The Globe, Leicester

Best city center pub we have been in in years.
Full range of Everards beers plus guest, all in good condition.
Even the wife liked the beer. Will be coming back to this one again soon!
Food looked good but had already eaten so did not try, maybe next visit.

30 Mar 2008 11:29

The Ale Wagon, Leicester

Does lack Atmosphere, but found the beer of good quality and staff very helpful.Do not think they will be brewing their own beer there as the site is not big enough. The interior does still require more tlc but it still welcoming.

30 Mar 2008 11:23
