The Green Man, Putney Heath

Totally agree with BDMark; I had the very same experience with the bad service and gay barman - telling the almost empty pub about his plight. Daisy...do you have a reason for your comments ?!

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

Millay and vegge are spot on. NOT a place for breakfast. Beer is ok.

Crown Inn, Westcott

The terms of the simwilliams/17 Jan post have again been complied with. No. 20 in six months, all with a 10 rating !

Crown Inn, Westcott

The Crown's unkempt car park (beside the pub, on the A25) shows all what to expect inside - and all will be proved right.

Three grown men work in the pub and seem against the concept of maintenance or work(?). Nearly 20 new posters have now tried to talk up this grubby place in the past six months.

And now, we see that the pub's run down state is because of dogs (who won't wash themselves!) and legal action.

The Red Lion, Godalming

Agree with 2 previous posters. Rosie (don't blame her!) spilled my drink on more than one occasion. Great Danes in pubs ? We'll have Shetland Ponies next !!

The Marquis of Granby, Epsom

Unusual place - seems run down, both outside and in. Maybe its going for a bohemian atmosphere or something - but that does'nt excuse its unkempt demeanour.

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

New manager and plasma TV - but very poor staff. Went in the other day and the barmaid was playing the fruit machine, sitting on a stool (back to the bar) - with little interest in serving or, even, watching who came in. No 'hello or thank you' but an urgent need for higher standards. I agree with goosegog - dreadful.

Crown Inn, Westcott

I share the views of the last three posters which were genuine ones.

This is a grubby place which merits little attention - except from the 'clique posers'.

The Ramblers Rest, Chipstead

As a Chipstead resident and regular at the Ramblers Rest, I strongly disagree with the two previous posts. To allow wet and dirty dogs into this newly refurbished establishment would be madness, in the middle of winter.

Do these two dog loving posters allow their sweaty/dirty/wet hounds into their living rooms - to destroy fixtures and fittings ? I think not !

But its ok - in their eyes - to allow these mutts to pass their foul odours to us 'suits' who are perhaps (though not always) trying to enjoy a quiet drink/meal after work. WITHOUT having to watch the animals wrestle, salivate, run and ruin the excellent new decor. But, of course, THEIR animals would never do that...

M&B's handling of this matter is clearly correct. Well done to them for having the courage tell dog walkers that, even though its a rural area, dogs have no god given (or legal) right to do their thing in this business premises - just because it was tolerated before. A commercial decision has been made - the right one.

The Bulls Head, Reigate

David Gregg's posting to this site, of 16 July 2002 - remains a classic. Ms Mullen, you are bringing back his high standards and, simultaneously, showing up the low ones - of some nearby competitors. See how many have tried to copy your 2 meals deal !

The Market Hotel, Reigate

The Market was heaving last night in both bars, with plenty of staff on.

they were showing the footy (liverpool) in the bar upstairs last night

The Yew Tree 'Time well spent', Reigate Hill

We call into this very pleasant pub, now and then, when travelling up/down Reigate Hill. Staff, beer, decor etc. are great; the only thing missing - during the day and early evening - is customers. A happy hour or two seems called for.
