The Old Plough, Seaford

Large garden, filled mainly with smokers. Not particularly atmospheric inside and was a bit of a scrum when trying to order at the bar. However, the food was very cheap and good value.

The Kings Head, Salisbury

Fairly busy on a Friday evening. Bouncers were asking customers to remove their head gear and checking ID. The food was cheap but very average in quality. Good location but no real sense of atmosphere.

The Red Lion Hotel, Salisbury

We were impressed by the helpfulness of the staff... but not by the food. The meat was extremely rare, the vegetables raw - and we both ended up with upset stomachs. We won't be going back.

White Horse, Salisbury

Had a meal there last night. Generous portions and good value, served by friendly staff.

The Golden Galleon, Exceat

I go to this pub restaurant regularly and haven't yet had a bad experience. It is part of the 'Village Inns' chain, so doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't. The food is good value and tasty. I have always found the staff unfailingly helpful and friendly. Yes, it does get busy; it's in a superb spot with a superb view in a tourist area. However, I've never had to wait an unreasonable time either to order at the bar, or to have my food served.

Ye Olde Smugglers Inn, Alfriston

This is one of my favourites! The food is always great, the portions generous and excellent value.

The Yew Tree Inn, Chalvington

Lovely unspoilt rural pub. We arrived early on a Saturday lunchtime and the place was almost deserted; by the time we'd finished our lunch the barman had been joined by a dozen locals, all of whom were obviously regulars. The menu isn't extensive, but what we had was delicious. The soup and baguettes were generous, tasty and excellent value for money. Can't comment on the beer I'm afraid!

The Yew Tree, Arlington

Great food. Extensive menu and good value. Booking advisable at weekends as it is very popular! Nice big, sheltered garden.

The Beachy Head, Eastbourne

Nowhere near as good as it used to be. In summer, the place is packed - and unfortunately, the state of the loos often reflects this! In winter, the place is almost deserted of an evening and it's hard to know how they keep going. The food is OK - but nothing special, and the service is usually less than special, even on a quiet night! It's rather a shame as the setting is absolutely superb...

The Golden Galleon, Exceat

I don't know what you're all on about. I've been to the Galleon several times during the past few months - and the food and service has always been excellent. My most recent visit was last Sunday... I had the roast beef and it was delicious. OK, it's not a 5-star restaurant, but neither does it charge 5-star prices. It provides good value for money, in very nice surroundings (both inside and out) - and I've found the staff unfailingly pleasant.
