Castle, Farringdon

photo needs updating as this is no longer current. thursday 6pm and the place was busy outside but not many in. staff would rather be doing something else is the feeling i got, waited a couple of minutes before getting a text from mate to say come to other pub. cant comment on beer quality as didnt get one in the end.

7 Aug 2010 14:06

The Three Compasses, Farringdon

was in on thursday night, pints of Deuchars were in good condition and crisp. watched the 1st half of the liverpool match on the screen while chaating with a couple of chaps who use this as their work local. staff were attentive and the visit overall was fine. would return if in the area again

7 Aug 2010 14:03

The Crown, Borough

Black sheep & adnams on the pumps , new menu starts monday. tv's up and ready for 6 nations rugby in 4 weeks time.
The crown is now officially Pub & grill. no longer restaurant and bar ( as per previous owners)

call in if you are in the area, ale is always in good condition

cheers

6 Dec 2009 11:02

The Crown, Borough

Now serving adnams bitter as house ale, adnams old ale is guest today.

18 Nov 2009 23:24

The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro

heard that this pub is in new hands, look foward to visiting when we visit polperro in January. My dad visited last weekend and says its improved 100 times over

24 Oct 2009 21:54

The Railway, Liskeard

called in for one when walking past on our way back to the centre of town.
wondered why pub is called railway as its nowhere near the railway or the station. ( the old stag is the station pub)
was onto spirits by the time we went in so cant comment on the beers.
seemed ok. Will have to try again next time down in cornwall.

24 Oct 2009 21:37

The Lukin, Warren Street

watched the rugby in here 2 saturdays ago. we were well looked after in the upstairs bar. beers were cold , food was good, will return

15 Aug 2009 16:29

The Rose and Crown, Southwark

visited recently , was ok , not a big shep neame fan. was ok but stuck to lager.

15 Aug 2009 16:14

The Old Stag, Liskeard

drank in here a few years ago when visiting my Dad.
Landlord was a very friendly bloke with his massive brood of kids.

very nice place for a good fri/ sat night drink with the family

Flying Horse, Gatwick Airport

better than when it was yates, nice pint of pedigree, didnt try the food , wouldnt go to a 'spoons out in the real world but not many options when airside here. was a good pint , service was functional and pretty quick so will score a 5

4 Nov 2008 15:29

The Old Bell, Fleet Street

Part of M&B's nicholsons brand pubs, quality of beer not gauranteed, food gauranteed to be brakes frozon micro mush. Avoid at all costs

28 Oct 2008 20:51

The Punch Tavern, Fleet Street

Carlsberg tasted awful , lines in desperate need of cleaning, place is dirty and run down , This place is for sale so you'd think the owners would want to clean it up to sell. My mate had the theakstons and wasnt impressed with that either, both pints left 3/4 on the table as we walked out

28 Oct 2008 20:48

The Lamp Tavern, Birmingham

the rating surprises me.

27 Oct 2008 17:53

The Walkabout, Covent Garden

This Walkabout was great when it was owned by Aussies, since its been purchased by Regent Inns , its now become part of a national roll out of feral chav magnets. when here was only 3 walkabouts in the whole of the counrty there would never be any arguements over what to watch cause there would be 95% kiwis and aussies in the pub who were there to party and drink hard, not to watch 22 soft princesses on tv. I mean holland v france ??? go watch it in a french pub !!! ( oh , sorry , I forgot , they surrendered it to the germans wihout a fight.... anyway ranting on , pub is now crap. BRING BACK BUCK!

26 Oct 2008 20:09

All Bar One, Covent Garden

for unsuspecting tourists and chav females in their primark fashions. All Bore One is just another chain pub in the faceless and money grabbing M&B. avoid at all costs.

26 Oct 2008 19:56

The Bok Bar, Covent Garden

Bolandini is quite wrong. the toilets are next to a storeroom which is next to the kitchen. if you look in the storeroom , you can see the pipes from the gents to the castle lager conversion chillers where piss is rebottled and chilled to be sold once more..... this used to be a great place, alas no more.....

26 Oct 2008 19:52

The White Swan, Covent Garden

great when Nick ran the place a few years ago , now an insipid dump , very dirty, rubbish burger. no control over drunken idiots when we were there 6pm on a sat. now one of CG's worst

26 Oct 2008 19:46

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Why no sports tops??? thought that type of prejudice had long gone.

26 Oct 2008 19:39

Pitcher and Piano, Strand

Why oh why, did I let the missus talk me into eating in here. short pour on the beer, wine underpoured and food greasy rubbish , when will I learn????

no P&P for me ever again

26 Oct 2008 19:36

The Marquis, Covent Garden

Is this an M&B franchise or was it sold outright? hard to tell on our visit. never liked it in its old style , still dont. pride wasnt the best.. and very large head . not planning a return

26 Oct 2008 19:32

The Harp, Covent Garden

harveys was good , pub reasonably busy, not a regular stop but not bad for one on the way to elsewhere. reccomend at least a visit

26 Oct 2008 19:27

The Rose and Crown, Southwark

popped in while looking around area , a nice pint, very impressed

26 Oct 2008 19:21

The Red Lion, Leytonstone

Without a doubt , the worst advertisement for south africa ever , even my SA friends avoid the place. truely a dump

24 Oct 2008 15:57

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

popped in after football prior to catching train , misssed train so ended staying another 2 hours, lucky it was an early game. beer was in very good condition, tried a few of each, the house beers were top notch . I dont get up this part of the world much but when I do , will def return. Hopefully by then , the gents will have been sorted

24 Oct 2008 15:50

The London road, Twickenham

Now called the Garry Owen. is the new owner a marine, ex marine or just watches too many american war movies. there is definatly nothing "garryowen" about this place. just another souped up chav magnet, something twickenham already has in spadefuls. shame as the site is one of the best in town.

24 Oct 2008 15:40

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield

called in to see what all the fuss was about , had the misfortune to have to stay in huddersfiled for the night, found the beers to be on top form , couldnt understand half of what the locals were saying but was still made to feel very welcome by staff and locals alike. can see why it gets good reviews and mentions in yorkshire pub of the year . a shining light on an otherwise unproductive visit to drabtown UK. pub gets a 9 from me

23 Oct 2008 11:41

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

best pub in the area. being hard to find keep the wandsworth scuzz away which suits me fine. always had good afternoons on the terrace drinking beer, eating beeter than average food and watching whatevers on the river. very good place to bring her and friends for summers afternoon.

23 Oct 2008 11:36

The Uplands Bar and Brasserie, East Dulwich

My God , what has happened here?? , One of the first in the area to be bar/brasserie not its one of the first to go back to being a dump. I was taking some friends of a tour of some of my old pubs , they have seen photos of this place and couldnt believe it was the same place, all the work that was put in by myself , Louise (assistant manger for 1st 2 years as a bar), Janicke, Mari, Maija, john and others is all down the drain. very sad , we had some great times , lovely customers, and a very nice pub... all gone now..... very sad.... beer lines were in desperate need of clean by the way......

22 Oct 2008 13:01

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

The original and still the best, not that it has to be particularly good to be be best in ED. this used to be the chav free pub in the area, sadly the chavs do get in every now and then, but overall still the best place. prices do deter most of the riff raff, but happy to pay premium if it means i'm not surrounding by Chav cockney wannabe gangsters who, sadly, still seem to think they have a place in East dulwich society.

22 Oct 2008 12:39

Lugger Inn, Polruan

good pint, we drank outside with our glass pints , no one told us any different.
we were not looking foward to walking back up to the car park after a few beers here. def a nice pub , also have visited here in winter and been well looked after, even got a cab to come from liskeard to get us, that was a touch!!!

21 Oct 2008 20:29

The Ship Inn, Polperro

a quick toilet stop only , had a very fast pint, didnt really stay long enough to decide, it was reasonably busy, average and not too memorable

21 Oct 2008 20:23

The Blue Peter, Polperro

well enjoyed top pint of tribute, my dad knew a few of the blokes in here so we stayed for a couple. everyone friendly and staff very polite. A lot more like what I expect a cornish pub to be like. rate a good 8 for the "pubiness" of the place

21 Oct 2008 20:19

The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro

This place was absolute " shite" . I loved it, the beer was ok. not particularly fine, the toilets stank, the customers we met were total white trash who were very rather feral. my dad said he wouldnt normally bother to drink in here but as we were on a bit of a crawl we had to have at least one to tick it off the list.
will now leave it to the reebok wearing trailer park holiday chavs. rate this a 1 only because it did actually serve beer.

21 Oct 2008 20:14

The Crumplehorn Inn, Polperro

Visited cornwall to visit my dad , did a lovely pub crawl of looe, polperro, and surrounding areas , found some great pubs , tried all sorts of ales and got rather merry , didnt particularly like this place , found the pubs further down to be better "pubs" . we wer'nt looking for a dining experience , just a good boozer. still better than some I have visited

21 Oct 2008 19:59

The Albion, Hampton Court

Dropped in for a quick pint early evening, didnt strike me as particularly good bad or otherwise. nowhere near the best nor then nowhere near the worst. had a bottle of cider after seeing a person in front of me complain about his beer. didnt fancy chancing a crook guts. after reading some of the comments , im glad i didnt try the beer. toilets were ok , far better than most I use in the city.
Prob wont visit again , but then very rarely ever in the area

15 Oct 2008 19:44

The Slug and Lettuce, Covent Garden

closed and awaiting demolishing

15 Oct 2008 12:35

The Philharmonic, Liverpool

Part of M&B's Nicholsons chain, The pub may look good but beneath lurks the typical m&B / brakes frozon food offer. more ales off than on when we visited last week, not the best in liverpool by a long shot...

15 Oct 2008 11:13

The Jolly Gardners, Putney

dont expect decent food (portion size or quality ) in any M&B site. its either going to be frozen brakes food stuffed in a microwave to thaw and then over cooked in the combi oven to make it look as its real food or it will be made by some pub cook , recently promoted from being a glass collector, who doesnt know a thing about preparing and cooking proper british food. avoid M&B if you want true british cooking!!

14 Oct 2008 11:06

The North Star, Leytonstone

dirty , dump , maybe be the best in leytonstone but then that doesnt say much about leytonstone does it?
avoid at all costs

14 Oct 2008 10:59

The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

went in 2 weeks ago on a tuesday night 7.30ish , waited 10 mins to be served , gave up and went over to the yorkshire gray instead.
I must admit i do like this pub but its gone downhill in a massive way since the old manger left (Sean i think his name was).
This is now seeming to be more and more just a typical Mitchells and Bulters swillpit than the Area flagship it once was.

1 Oct 2008 14:15

The Bell at Mill Hill, Mill Hill

not a pub , not a bar , not a cafe , what is this hole , leaving as soon as i finish typing this.

1 Oct 2008 13:54

The Dog House, Kennington

went in here a few years ago, enjoyed it back then, visited today (sunday) and thought UGGGHHH.. this place has def had its day and now is in need of a complete clean out and transformation. didnt bother sampling , walked on to the next pub instead

28 Sep 2008 22:31

The White Hart, Kennington

a pint and a piddle was I could manage in here , not my type of pub at all. beer wasnt that good , line cleaning tonight per chance??

28 Sep 2008 22:19

The Pilgrim Bar & Kitchen, Kennington

Visited sunday afternoon , lager was fresh and crisp , no real ales though. didnt eat but saw some sunday lunches going out that looked and smelt lovely , overheard good comments as people left.
will return maybe on a cricket day

28 Sep 2008 22:13

The Green Man, Soho

a bit of an update

i have resigned from the green man due to serious issues with my area manager and for the way which Mitchells and Butlers are treating the non branded sites within our pubgroup.

its impossible to run this pub without the support of an experienced area manager and Im not prepared to continue to try to do so.

i pity the mug who will take the place on.

13 Sep 2008 21:38

The Larrik, Marylebone

Has his place just been refurbed??? soulless and horrible , bought a beer because we wanted the toilet , fastest downed pints of the day. def not to return

28 Aug 2008 16:29

Windsor Castle, Marylebone

visited late afternnon on bank hol sunday, beer was ok , didnt try food. decor was ok for a look around but not my kind of pub. went back up to the Duke of york for music and sports and a fresher tasting pint.

28 Aug 2008 16:26

The Duke Of Wellington, Marylebone

rubbish , nothing "pub" about this place. if i wanted to sit somewhere surrounded by prams and MILFS, this place is great. if i want a beer with the mates i def wont come here

12 Aug 2008 12:51

The Wargrave Arms, Marylebone

somethings gone wrong here. this place has downhill fast. nothing postive to say really , bit sad really

12 Aug 2008 12:44

The Old Buttermarket, Canterbury

This place is now a must visit when in canterbury. a new manager ( Mark ) along with some of his family make this a very welcoming pub.
i used to drink in his pub when he was based in london and the same top service is continuing.

12 Aug 2008 12:39

The Duke of York, Marylebone

Visited 3 time recently , good service , good food ( huge portion), beers were ok, liked it so went back with friends. can see where a good 7 rating could come from. its not some high st gastro pub but then its not trying to be one. a good local pub with range of food and drinks that can keep most visitors happy.
im giving it an 8 because its still a true pub

12 Aug 2008 12:33

The Victory, Marylebone

Not good , not bad , not anything really??

6 Aug 2008 15:22

The Old English Gentleman, Edgware Road

Went in tuesday lunchtime , very quiet , staff friendly and helpful to a couple of tourists who asked for directions.
had a fosters which wasnt in the best of condition. Im guessing first pint of the day from that pipe.
Not a place that I would plan to revisit.

6 Aug 2008 15:19

The Green Man, Soho

Marylong and lewis1, you so obviously full of Sh*t.
This is still a very good pub, the beers are always spot on , the food is not "typical M&B" ( although what is typical m&b). Our toilets are constantly being worked on and are cleaned hourly. As for no soap! Hello to the young lady who was caught by our security staff trying to steal a full handsoap from the ladies toilet....very sad !!!!!

finally to the point of the landlord. Me!!!

I dont stand on the end of the bar with a pint in hand, in fact I rarely drink during opening hours in my own pub. If I am arrogant , its because of people like you wasting my time when I could be serving decent customers (99.9%). As for my letching: Being nice and helpful to customers doesnt constitute letching unless you are the dogsbreath muckhole most men would ignore and are clearly jelous of attention that others receive.

If you are unhappy about me , my staff , my pub , or any part of our offer , please feel free to clean yourself up , and come in for a chat , prior to attempting to drink yourself into popularity.

To anyone reading this review , please feel free to drop in , say hello , and enjoy our pub with us.

cheers all

Phil

9 Jul 2008 14:13

The Green Man, Soho

major cahnges in this pub , 2 sky boxes means loads of sports, always got 2 good ales on + 7 lagers, good musci on non sports nights , with live music introduced last month , the place rocked , next dand is said to be 1st friday in march.
A lot busier than ever before , prepared to be jammed.
n.b , get in early for football as the place holds 250 but only has seating for 80

The staff arn't rude , they are just too busy to be mucked about by morons who forget to bring cash on a busy sports night.

Oh yeah and champions league final is 5 door charge limited to 200 pers so there will be comfort room for all.

11 Feb 2008 18:44

The Maple Leaf, Covent Garden

Massive downhill slide , this is not the famous maple leaf anymore, wont be back for the warm weasels wee that was passed as beer. also there were no Canadian brews on draught the day we went there

10 Jan 2008 11:22

The Three Greyhounds, Soho

Went on sunday evening , got seats ok , she had wine , I had lager , both ok , no real complants

Bar Soho, Soho

Total crap , never again

31 Dec 2007 14:00

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

As Someone stated , im no longer the manager here. When the company said they are taking sky sports out, I also decided to leave , haven't seen it in its new form, and if it isnt showing football, theres not much chance that I will.
Up in the west end now, running the green man in berwick st, a good pub with sky sports still in.
call in , have a beer and watch all the sports we can get .
cheers
Kiwi Phil

19 Jul 2007 01:20

The Sir Paul Pindar, Bishopsgate

Called in for couple of quick pints, thurs 4.30pm , was ok , a few peps in , beers was fine and cold, cricket was on ( racing had just finished), didnt try food or ale, liked it, will return when in the area

20 Mar 2007 14:03

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Alaways enjoy this pub, sunday evening used to see publicans from around the area meet up for a drink and a chat, greg and ginge were always the quintessential hosts and a good evening was had by all. staff were always attentive ( cause we were sitting with the boss??) greg always kept the beers in top notch. havent been back since they left. suppose another visit is due

18 Jan 2007 15:26

The Bleeding Heart, Clerkenwell

pub , bar or restaurant???

18 Jan 2007 15:14

phil

16 Jan 2007 12:58

The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

Guinness was fine, staff were attentive, good port of call when on a crawl of area. there are worse nearby.
Some people just too critical methinks.

8 Jan 2007 19:45

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

Under new management, sports still to play a major part in the pub, new food menus and the dining room/ back bar is smokefree. new manager does support a football team , but is an old school rugby league supporter of Otahuhu Railway. ( The Whanau know!)
some changes in staff to happen but most of the old crew is staying. get used to seing more oval ball games on the screens and more Kiwis and aussies in the pub, will have early doors for super 14 and tri nations rugby.
dont be shy, come on in and say g'day!!
cheers
phil

2 Dec 2006 16:22

The Crown And Two Chairmen, Soho

what a dump , was in watching football 12 months ago and loved it, now we walk in, were given the once over and ignored by the bar girl. noted they dont do sports anymore, waited for her to finally get to us, ordered some drinks and them walked out the side door while she was pouring them. maybe im impatient but over 5 minutes in a 1/2 empty bar is crap. wont be back while its in its current style.

14 Sep 2006 16:11

Golden Lion, Soho

nice pub to watch footy in, bit of eye candy coming in & out. does me fine on a sunday afternoon

14 Sep 2006 15:58

The Cambridge, Soho

Well 12 months later and this place has changed, now its a definatly dont bother pub. watching football on the weekends used to be a fun occasion for a regular group of guys. most have moved on, the staff have changed. This place has gone downhill, as so much as jumped off a cliff. we are drinking in the golden lion in dean st for sunday football now, much better environment, cant comment on the bitter as dont touch the stuff. fosters was bland , no real sparkle to it , suggest cleaning lines on time might help. not one of nicholsons best!!

14 Sep 2006 15:48

The White Swan, Covent Garden

OMG , what has happened to this nice little pub , where have all the good staff gone? , where is the sky sports? ok , i know its a chain pub and was never the best pub in town , but we enjoyed coming here when we worked around the corner. anyone know where dave has gone? I asked the new manager ( boy in mans shoes???) he was about as help as a roll of sandpaper in an outhouse. It was nice to see Anna still there so our drinks wernt total cocked up. wont be back in a hurry!!!

6 Sep 2006 17:02

The Red Lion, Soho

a nice boozer when in the area , prices are very low , place in clean and friendly , staff were very nice and helpful , landlady is an absolute darling , very helpful and polite to all , been back 4 times now and always enjoyed ourselves

5 Jan 2006 19:29

The One Tun, Goodge Street

what a minger , called in last sunday , place seemed very dirty , a few lowlifts in corner and coke on offer in the toilets. def not to return

14 Dec 2005 14:55

On Anon, Piccadilly Circus

yet another over priced glam bar with a rude little man demanding money in the toilets. we had one drink then back to callaghans round the corner. far better around there.

12 Oct 2005 10:23

Callaghan's Irish Bar, Piccadilly

nice pub for afterwork drinks on a tuesday, guinness tasted fine but was poured by a moron , nozzle into the beer and only a 20 second wait till the top up , spilt all down the sides. then again how should a latvian girl know how to pour a guinness correctly? will try again only to hope for redemption

12 Oct 2005 10:17

The Redback, Acton

This place is Feral with a capital F , nothing like pubs back home. might be ok for aussies and saffas but then again this is about the best they deserve. Came 12000 miles to meet aussies? i think not. stick to good local pubs where you can experience the uk.

10 Oct 2005 18:46

The Cambridge, Soho

ok for watching sports, i can see why some people dont like it. but it is the closest to a real pub in the close area. let the tourists go to all bore one across the road. i like the place , the staff were fine and the prices was the same as any other nicholsons in central london. will def return

10 Oct 2005 10:59

The Crown And Two Chairmen, Soho

Was in here for the football on saturday , never knew this was a sports pub untill today , had a great afternoon , staff were quick and beer was cold. food wasnt sampled. ( eating is cheating) def worth a return visit

10 Oct 2005 10:51

The Maple Leaf, Covent Garden

What a mixed response to this place , as a true kiwi, i would not be seen dead in a walkabout so this is the only other decent sports bar in the area, beers are fine , service was fine , staff were fine, food was great, steak for me. and didnt encounter any dodgy customers. always worth a visit when in covent garden. although they could screen more nfl.

8 Oct 2005 11:57

The Metro Bar, Sidcup

popped in as in the area , havent been here or in the area for over 2 years , what a shock!!! , in need of something. only 3 words suit what i found. BRING BACK JANE!! . she was the manager when the place was first re furbed. sad to see really. wont be back for at least another couple of years so hope to see an improvement.

25 Sep 2005 15:40

Mortimer, Fitzrovia

Some pubs trade on merit, some on location. this is definatly its location. not really a pub but a cafe bar restaurant, food average, good range of bottled beers but its about all it has going for it. definatly not worth a repeat visit, there are far better pubs within short walking distance.

25 Sep 2005 15:24

The Uplands Bar and Brasserie, East Dulwich

Shame to read recent comments about this place , i am the kiwi manager refered to in previous message. Shame how things change when you move on , not surprised to hear the local low life back in, they must be running out of pubs in dulwich.

21 Sep 2005 18:42

The Yorkshire Grey, Fitzrovia

a big No!! , 2nd visit for me and 3rd pub of our afternoon. crap beers, no atmosphere. wont bother again.

21 Sep 2005 18:27

The Kings Arms, Fitzrovia

2nd pub of the afternoon, drinks more expensive than along the road , staff going through the motions, no real complaints but nothing to inspire us to stay. not the best of the day by far.

21 Sep 2005 18:21

The Green Man, Fitzrovia

Nice pub , sky sports on , barman happy to change to golf for us, 3.30pm, tues . drinks at good price 2.50 london pride in ok condition, 2.50 for stella, 2 for fosters, made it worth having a couple. a couple of nice girls in for late lunch very nice on the eye. def worth a return visit, and found that there is a pool table upstairs ( bonus in this area) we will be back

21 Sep 2005 18:17

The White Horse, Soho

what a dive of a pub, been back a couple of times and now admit it wasnt a fluke. ran out out ale, lager was flat, bar girl was on planet z and some very obnoxious prats in the bar. never again

21 Sep 2005 18:09

The White Swan, Covent Garden

total crap , why do pubcos insist on employing eastern european girls with no english?
this being a classic mitchells and bulters site , the one or two competant staff must be sick of it.
the worst guinness poured on st pats day this year

30 Mar 2005 21:31

The Walkabout, Covent Garden

ozzie, ozzie, ozzie , boring, boring, boring, it may be one of the oldest walkabouts, its definatly the blandest with crap food, ( the beef burger was awful) warm bottle of beer, and when complained told TOUGH!, no offer of a cold one. so much for aussies prefering cold beer!! wont be returning here , back to the bok bar , at least the saffas know how to keep beer cold

30 Mar 2005 21:17
