The Man of Kent, East Peckham

Pleasant to sit outside in the sun (too tall to fit inside comfortably)
with frontage to the stream which goes under the bridge here,
Lots of tame chub to amuse you
Various guest ales of varying quality ..
Cannot speak for food as not eaten here....
In all, not bad helped of course by its unique setting

Bush, Blackbird and Thrush, East Peckham

Pretty country pub with a huge garden
Sheps ale always in top condition (kept by a man who used to sell real ale for a living) in a beamy bar where you do not feel you are intruding on the diners,
though you can eat in the bar or the restaurant next door a selection of well priced pub grub and bar snacks
This is the one I head for when in the area..........

The Woolpack Inn, Warehorne

First off the beer was fine ....
That said although I seldom comment on food I feel I must redress the balance here..
The homemade beef and ale pie which we ordered is of the round individual type .. ours was full of gristle of the kind one usually cuts off the edge of a rump steak......this served with chips, salad and gravy with an overall cheesy aroma .....!!!!
10.50 if this is your bag...

I note since the new owners that two of the three reviews are one off postings ...
Conclude what you will ...

The World's Wonder, Warehorne

Large friendly pub which I have visited on and off for years
Good drop of goachers in good condition and very good home cooked food
A sometimes chaotic feel just adds to the easy atmosphere here......
Very pleasant indeed

The Kentish Rifleman, Dunks Green

Pleasant and busy country pub with a good cross section of customers,
seems split between two camps, eaters and drinkers
Cannot speak for the food but the ales have always been good on our visits with a well kept selection and a pleasant Biddenden cider too
Well done all round

The Bell And Compass, Charing Cross

Being next to Charing Cross just reinforces the feeling that everything and everyone here is passing through,
That said i feel it probably deserves a better rating than it has.
Cannot say anything is bad and cannot say anything is good, just fair for what it is, a last stop before the train.

The Wellington, Waterloo

Called here one afternoon and drank some good EPA ,
however this is large and mostly soulless place when quiet and really requires to be busy to feel ok
Eventually driven out by multiple TV screens which were impossible to get away from.
Good for sports fans.

The Leicester Arms, Penshurst

On the few occasions i have been here the bitter has been in poor condition,
This and a general air of shabbiness and disinterest means i won't be returning for the foreseeable future

The Hopbine, Matfield

Friendly country pub serving fine Badger ales
Worth seeking out and worth going back !

26 Sep 2010 12:48

The Royal Oak, Tunbridge Wells

Fortunes here have changed very much for the better with well kept choice of ales including the excellent Darkstar
A sense of community here too, unusual for a town type pub.
Sadly TV screens and fruit machines but are low key and not intrusive during my visits
All in all very good

The Middle House Hotel, Mayfield

Historic building now cut off from the mainstream by the Mayfield bypass just adds to the testament of just how good the Middle House is.
Deservedly busy with well kept ales on pump, polite and pleasant staff and an excellent sunday roast, (Mr & Mrs kisstaker do eat sometimes too ! )
AND sauces etc come in dishes not sachets !
Scores highly on every count.

Wheatsheaf, Crowborough

Pretty weather boarded Harveys pub
Deceptively spacious inside on different levels with a pleasant garden area
Good selection of Harveys beers in good condition
Friendly staff and fine tasty pub grub with a specials board.
Most enjoyable..

13 Sep 2010 22:08

Bricklayers Arms, Crowborough

Looked in here one lunchtime,
Only two ales on but a reasonable cider..
Friendly enough pub with the feeling it was geared to younger folk

13 Sep 2010 21:58

The Bull Inn, Benenden

Worth seeking out if only for the excellent Darkstar Hophead.
Easy relaxed pub where you feel comfortable from the word go,
Lots of cosy corners and a small pretty garden.
Good ale , good pub grub , good company
I like this one.

The Rose Revived, Hadlow

Surely the basic principles of a good pub are good beer served in good condition by a friendly host in a convivial atmosphere,
I have experienced none of these here.
Vast amounts of money have obviously been spent here, difficult to see how a good return will be made.
As for "one post Kurt"... either he has not been anywhere else or i suspect he/she has a personal axe to grind.
Could do so much better.

13 Sep 2010 21:34

The Dovecote, Capel

Top notch country pub with a good selection of gravity fed ales, often including Gales HSB, Blacksheep , and the superb St Austell Tribute. to name but a few
Limited space inside with an area set aside for eaters but plenty of room outside including a semi covered area.
Beer always in good condition .. just wish it was open longer hours !!

13 Sep 2010 21:06

The Chaser, Shipbourne

Large pub by the church
Car park is usually busy ....one of lifes little mysteries..

13 Sep 2010 20:52

George and Dragon, Tudeley

Has seen a few changes here and stopped from time to time but never felt anything was above average..
Lots of space inside and fair car park.
Last occasion our driver was charged 3.00 for a lemonade and lime
so allow for this in your budget.

13 Sep 2010 20:48

The Poacher, Tudeley

Had more names than Elizabeth Taylor but still known locally as the Red Cow.
Large pub .. large car park .. little appeal

13 Sep 2010 20:39

Turmeric Gold, Tudeley

Now turmeric gold .. does have a bar
but really an indian restaurant .. and a very good one.

13 Sep 2010 20:36

The Golding Hop, Plaxtol

Quirky unspoilt hidden pub which hits all the right notes.
Restricted space inside but large area outside,
Choice of gravity fed ales .. but do try the ciders

13 Sep 2010 20:32

Plough, Borough Green

Friendly country pub .. perfect to relax outside and lose an hour or two, made easier with a pint of excellent Biddenden cider or two.

13 Sep 2010 20:03

The Plough Inn, Hildenborough

Pretty as a picture.. ..But....
Used to serve good ales at good prices at good hours..
Was always a stopoff on our cycle tours...
then just stopped opening sensible hours
the just stopped going ...............

13 Aug 2010 22:57

The Camden Arms, Pembury

Friendly staff not enough to make up for poorly kept ales.. sometimes very good but often very poor...On the few occasions i have eaten here, usually as someones guest, the food quality has been poor.. including Sunday "how long can you keep something soggy" roast to Christmas dinner "without trimmings"...
Has slowly been improving and i hope this trend continues..

13 Aug 2010 22:47

The King William IV, Pembury

Has had lots of ups and downs since Allan and Carol..but the new landlord and staff are making a real effort to make this work...
Beers and ciders are well kept if not the cheapest around and the pub and gardens are clean and tidy...
Friendly attitude to all
Deserves to be the best pub in Pembury and probably will be...

13 Aug 2010 22:30

Six Bells, Woodchurch

Ales are always in good condition..
Selection of pub grub available and tasty
The new landlord Ray, is always approachable and friendly staff make a visit worthwhile..
Sit out front with a pint or two and watch the world go by...... like turning the clock back .. !!

13 Aug 2010 22:15

Bonny Cravat, Woodchurch

Landlords come....Landlords go....
Has never really come out of the shadow of Bob Murphy
Maybe soon...

13 Aug 2010 22:03

The Swan, Wittersham

All went wrong here some weeks ago... once an oasis of good real ale served from the barrel ..... Ray is now to be found at his new acquisition .. the Bells at Woodchurch..... I wish both pubs success.

13 Aug 2010 21:55

The Filo (First In Last Out), Hastings

Support your local micro breweries.......
This is just far enough away from the front to avoid the tasteless
tattooed braindead kissmequick retards..
Beers are good ...but just cannot bring myself to order anything Ginger !!
Tiny corner of bar is reserved for cooking a small selection of excellent quality food while you watch .. or look through to the brewery behind... Garden now open....
Not one to miss .....

13 Aug 2010 21:24

The Lord Nelson, Hastings

Where I would go without the other half.....
Unique in the sense that things here seem to be the same as twenty years ago......... Don't be shy and talk to the real locals.... but maybe not take your mum !!!

13 Aug 2010 21:10

The Dolphin Inn, Hastings

A rare example of a pub used by locals and visitors close to the front and can please both camps.
Excellent ale including the superb Darkstar brewery hophead or American pale ale .....Landlord and staff make a real effort to make all welcome....
Never felt any vibes of Royston ... but maybe I just mix well ....
A long walk to a better pub...

13 Aug 2010 20:58

The Rock, Chiddingstone Hoath

Superb example of a country pub...
No makeovers no schemes or Sky tv.
Well kept Larkins ale (brewed just round the corner) and a good selection of Pub Grub for the hungry.
Sit inside or out and soak up the summer..... You are just as welcome
if you arrive by car .. pony .. bike ..or just walking the dog...evident by the local drinkers who TALK to you.
With respect .. if you want restaurant.... go to one....
If you don't want oily food ... Don't eat fish and chips !!
Top marks all round ..
And lastly .... whats a doggie ??

13 Aug 2010 20:36

The Halfway House, Brenchley

First class..
Always a good selection of well kept bitters and a deceptive local cider.
Poor selection of lager ( a plus in my opinion ) !! along with no tv or jukebox .... ahh bliss.
Friendly staff and friendly customers always up for a bit of banter.
Forthcoming beer festival boasts 75 bitters.... Top that spoons !!
Good food for the diners too...
A real oldy worldy gem.

11 Aug 2010 10:37

The Rose and Crown, Halstead

Oh dear its all gone wrong here...
Bustling lively and friendly pub is just a shadow of what was it was.
Once excellent sunday roast is now mediocre, no need to book now !
Another hidden gem has bitten the dust.
