The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

I like this place, even though it is very smoky. We didn't try the food this time, but previously was pretty good. The beers are always in very good condition and the Tanglefoot has it's usual 'wolf in sheep's clothing' effect. Given the alternatives in the area, I would always rate this highly.

The Tea Clipper, Knightsbridge

The pub is OK and the Ruddles we had was fine, if a bit insipid. Didn't try the 'Pride' so that might have been better. I have to say I wasn't impressed though, as there are better pubs not too far away. Worth a look if you're feeling a bit 'shopped-out' at Harrods, but otherwise I wouln't recommend going out of your way to find it.

The Boathouse, Putney

Can't comment on the food, but our visit wasn't as bad as some of the other reviews. OK, the beer wasn't cheap, but it was in excellent condition and it is a great location. Chrome and glass isn't my ideal pub and it was a fairly young and earnest crowd in on Saturday evening, but it was pleasant enough. Service was good, but this was early evening, so maybe we hit it too early to see problems. All in all, by no means the worst we've been to, but admittedly not the best Young's pub.

The Atlas, West Brompton

Nice place and I agree that it probably stands out in the area, but the term gastropub is correct. It's not what I call a pub. However, it deserves a big thumbs up for keeping a real ale (Deuchars) on in good condition. We didn't try the food, but it looked good and was reasonably priced for the area. Also looked like a good choice of wines on offer, if that's your thing.

The Zetland Arms, South Kensington

Saturday lunchtime visit was good. 3 Real Ales on the go and were in good nick when we tried them. Nice mixed crowd in there enjoying the food and the footie. As you'd expect, the crowd is well-heeled, as reflected by the polite applause that greeted goals rather than the more customary cheers and catcalls! Still, all very pleasant though.

The Cove, Covent Garden

Tried it on the strength of previous reviews and weren't disappointed. All that's been said before is absolutely spot-on and it's a surprising oasis in that area. The Betty Stoggs and the Tribute weren't great as it happened, but maybe we caught it on a bad day. Busy of course, but not packed and service was quick and prices reasonable. Pretty Good!

The Narrow Boat, Islington

Didn't order food so can't comment on previous, but the real ale (Broadside & Sussex) was great! It is modern but in a great location and it is worth noting that when it says it opens at 11:00 on Saturday, it means it. Unlike so many other pubs!
