The Old Neptune, Whitstable

A very lovely historic pub with good ale.
I would have given this place a good rating if it wasn't for a very rude landlady.
The 12 of us finished our drinks and moved on to somewhere where we felt more welcome.

The Crown, Victoria Park

I selected The Crown for Sunday lunch since it was mentioned in a CAMRA guide. My wife phoned ahead and asked if they had a "veggie roast". They said it wasn't a problem and we reserved a table for six people.
When we arrived in the pub, I was disappointed to find that there were no ales available on the handle, and the staff were too busy to attend to what I would consider the prime purpose of a pub.
Five of our group were vegetarian and we all ordered the veggie roast. We were pretty surprised to find it was just sunday roast, but minus the meat and gravy. A plate of cabbage, potato, carrots and a yorkshire pud.
The landlady seemed to think that this protein free meal was acceptable, where five hungry people did not.
In her defence, we weren't charged for the food, but this place is trying to sell itself as a gastropub and we left having had neither food or beer.
This place needs to up its game or just own up to being another crap pub and stop pretending.

The Waverley, Edinburgh

A great and authentic victorian interior. Nicely un-packed compared with the other pubs in the Royal Mile area.
The bar girl was very friendly, but I realised that the reason nobody frequents this place is that the beer is truly lousy.
My entire group left most of their drinks behind.
For some reason, all of the tables and chairs are bolted down here. They obviously want to preserve the period glasswork.

The Holyrood Tavern, Edinburgh

The food here at "9A" is mostly gormet burgers, but they do have a very good range of that type of fare.
What i found really impressive was the extensive range of delicious beer, including my current favourite, Brew Dogs "The Physics"

The King Charles I, Kings Cross

This pub is my local and it's a real gem of a pub.
It's pretty small so can often get full.
The pub has recently changed managers and is currently closed every Sunday (although available for hire that day)
