Deers Hut, Griggs Green

Time to add a new review for the total revamp of this pub. It has been beautified toa gorgeous level whilst still retaining charm.
The draught ales are good, although I'd always like to see some more choice.
The food is very good and service lovely.
More of a gastropub, but a different league to what was here before. What a great pub to have in the village.

The Hawkley Inn, Hawkley

Back after a year, in a planned manner. Lovely staff.
The beer, exquisite. So much choice! Nice pump ciders too. Now this is a proper beer pub. I left quite pickled! Look forward to coming back for food.

The Prince of Wales, Haslemere

Pretty spit & sawdust for the area, a bit of a surprise. Only HSB & Pride on draught unfortunately. Nice staff and dog friendly.

The Bat and Ball, Boundstone

Popped by on a wet afternoon after lots of recommendations.
6 great beers (I enjoyed 2 of them).
Friendly staff.
A menu I would happily return for and a garden for the summer.
Seems like a great place just of the beaten track.
We'll be back.

The Blue Bell Inn, Dockenfield

A bit bland and empty inside. Some nice sofas but tucked away or torn between fire and draughty door.
Nice selection of beers that were well served. Cannot comment on the food.
We should try it again in the summer.

The Old House at Home, Chichester

Revisited after a long absence. Clearly nicely refurbished since last I was here. Nicely kept beer and pleasant staff

The Hawkley Inn, Hawkley

We stumbled across this place during their beer festival. Heaven! And pretty good music.
A round was a surprise to the wallet, but the real ale was most excellent.
No food when we went.

The Shepherd and Flock, Farnham

A nice publican and a really great selection of ales. A strange location, but worth a detour.

The Plume of Feathers, Crondall

Three reasonable beers. Nice old beams. OK pub food.

The Holly Bush, Headley

Not a bad pub. A bit characterless. Some reasonable ales on offer, and tasty. Almost empty when we were there, which was surprising for the time. Maybe next time we'll try the food.

Three Horseshoes, East Worldham

A nice pint after a long walk, that turned into dinner too. Lovely staff and a nice decor. A few well-kept beers and the food was delicious too. A great chance find.

The Crossways Inn, Churt

We've live near here for a year and accidentally missed this. What a shame. But what a treat. This not a modern gastro-pub. This is a simple drinking pub. But with the best selection of beers I have seen in ages. Nice staff and a really good pint.
Come here to drink good beer. I shall.

The Dog and Pheasant, Brook

Popped in for beer after a recommendation.
Nice beer from a good selection.
A lovely traditional feel to the pub
Delightful staff.
I look forward to returning to sample the food.

The Devil's Punchbowl Hotel, Hindhead

Dark and dingy decor. Really needs a refurbishment.
2 Ringwood beers. Not brilliantly kept.
Shocking, miserable service.
Somewhere kept alive by the location, not the quality.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

Wow. I mean wow! A gorgeous character pub. Such charm.
The staff are lovely and fabulously sensitive to your needs.
The beer is great and well- kept with a few marvellous 'non-standard' choices.
The food, albeit a bit pricey, is really very very good.
This place is a real treat.

Apple Tree, Haslemere

Proper working class pub. One bitter.

Deers Hut, Griggs Green

Old and a bit tired. A locals' pub to offset the splendour (?) of Old Thorns nearby. Friendly staff. Nice ales, well-kept with a good selection. Great for beer. And I like beer.

The Dragon, Colgate

A quaint, small pub. Friendly staff. Well-kept Hall & Woodhouse beer. Nice log fires in both rooms and not averse to muddy boots. A lovely little local.

The Six Bells, Billingshurst

Lovely traditional dcor. Very friendly staff. Beer (H&W) pretty good. Menu althogh not sampled looked enticing.

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

We met a friendly barman, who was child friendly. A pint of quality ale was very welcome. This is a small locals' pub, but not xenophobic. Nice enough.

The George and Dragon, Houghton

Stopped off for a pint after a hard day's geocaching (hiking). Well kept and charismatic with a splendid view of the wildbrooks. Bar staff very friendly. Beer well-kept and tasty unusual choices. Offered a choice of wines by the glass.
Can't believe I haven't stopped off before. Menu looked good. We'll be back.

The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

Well what a great find tucked away in the Sussex countryside. Thirty seconds at the bar and I knew this was a good place. A good selection of bitters and really lovely staff. Add to that the lok and feel of a real traditional pub with a very picturesque location and you have it all.
But it doesn't end there. The food is very good and reasonably priced.
I'd really recommend this place, and in summer with cricket outside this place must be a piece of heaven.

The Mill at Elstead, Elstead

What a fantastic location. Just charming, and especially so in good weather. Nice and clean inside and lovely views of the river outside. Perfect in the sunshine.
They offer ESB, HSB, London Pride and a Fullers seasonal offering on draught.
The food is reasonable. Nothing special, and not bad.
But.......the service makes it all fall flat on its face. It took an age for food to arrive (each course), and by the time we were there it was quite quiet. Plates were not cleared when more food was brought. No cutlery was brought (twice).
Ad that's the food service. At the bar was a mixture of surly, abrupt and even down right rude staff, including the chap whom I assume is the manager. Not just to me, but also witnessed to other customers. One exception was a lovely Australian girl.
How does a pub hope to attract customers back when they treat them so badly? Is the location enough? Perhaps, but Fullers, you have a problem.

The Bear, Nyetimber

Quite a nice pint on a quick stop by. Friendly staff. Woefully little seating on a Sunday if you don't intend to eat.

The Hornbrook Inn, Horsham

Our recent visit to this pub for a Sunday meal was fantastic even in view of problems. As a Hall & Woodhouse pub it has a good selection of pump bitters, and they all tasted great. The manageress was encouraging bitter choosers to try the guest Lemony Cricket ale with a small sample. This was a welcoming touch.
Our meal was good pub fayre, but it took a long time coming. The manageress apologised profusely when she brought the food, despite no complaint from us. An extra bowl of chips and free coffees was a further apology.
All in all a very positive experience. Good beer, good food and a well-presented pub. We'll be back.

The Sussex Oak, Warnham

This pub is great. More than great. This is what English pubs should be all about.
We had a late Sunday lunch here. The choice was fantastic for everyone. My steak was done to perfection (a rarity with a blue steak). We were aske dif the child's meal should come with starters (rare insight and very welcome).
The beer was delicious and there was a great range.
All in all quite superb and somewhere I look forward to returning to.

The Owl, Kingsfold

I took my family here after we had had a really good lunch and beer experience here a few years ago. Not so this month; I was very embarrassed to have recommended this place to anyone.
My duck was as dry as you could imagine having been really overcooked. My father-in-law's bangers were neatly placed so that only when you turned them over did you realise that they were burnt to a cinder. My beer was disgusting (I forget which, but it will have been a draught bitter) and shouted out poor pipe maintenance. Regrettably my family would not let me complain.
At best this place is variable, at worst awful. No lies here.
