The Red Pump Inn, Bashall Eaves

A really friendly country pub with the emphasis more on food although they still retain a bar for drinkers.
It's been completely refurbished recently and the menu upgraded. Whilst it's rather more expensive than pubs serving traditional pub grub if you like good food then this is for you.
Four of us met there at 7.30 and, because they still have the traditional pub side you don't feel as though you're being encouraged to leave when you've finished your meal -We were still lingering over coffee after 10.00
We've been before it was upgraded and we'll certainly go again

Spade Oak, Bourne End

Lots of good reviews so took friends there to dinner on 8th October.
Never again!
It all started so well, delicious starters and friendly service (if a little slow). Then it all went downhill and we waited.....and waited... for our main courses but our waiter had disappeared. Tried to attract the attention of a waitress at an adjoining group of tables but she was chatting with two friends who'd just come in. Finally, our waiter reappeared (no explanation) and took away our starter plates. Eventually, 90 minutes after we'd sat down and 15 minutes after the waitress's friends had arrived both tables got main courses simultaneously. It became apparent that we'd just been forgotten. My pork fillet was dried up and tough, my wife's fish was congealed and unappetising. All the meals were on plates which were hot on one side and cold on the other.
As I said at the start-never again.

New Inn, Middleton Cheney

On the basis of recommendations from this site I called in for lunch on 9th October 2008. A really terrific country pub! A fairly simple menu but excellent food nicely presented by friendly staff. Will certainly be back. I can't speak too highly of it.
Give it a try!

A good menu, excellent food and friendly staff - all in a pretty location. A really super dining pub whether for evening or lunchtime.
