The Three Blackbirds, Flamstead

cracking little pub. we went in for a pint before chirstmas, ending up having 3. good range of ales, though i stuck to the betty stogs by skinners.. lovely landlady and landlord. stayed for sunday lunch which is definitely the best in the area, two open fires and longer than normal opening times for the area

The Red Lion, Studham

just finished sunday roast there, what a waste of time, same specials on the board as when i went in a few months back, roast was absolutley tastless, i needed an army of salt pots and horseradish to get through it. proper cheap cuts of meat..dont waste your time eating here.

as this is beer in the evening and not food at lunch time, i must confess the beer was spot on, guest ale has a good turn over, tried the exmoor wild cat, could not stay for another pint as my mouth was in need of flavour an odd thing on a full belly..

verdit - great country pub, olde worlde inside with good beer, stay away from the food at all costs

The Red Lion, Newquay

cracking, absolute corker of a pub. nice to go to a pub mostly full of locals. newquay seems to have turned into a stag party haven. this place luckily isnt overrun by these rowdy types. didnt have the food ut atmosphere was great, bar stuff wonderful, and a beer fest on at the time, beers costinga round 2 quid each. perfect little get away with live music on the nights we were there.

The Boat Inn, Whitney on Wye

most of the reviews i read on trip advisor are true, but we still enjoyed ourselves. massive menu which is always a put off, but the food was good. obviously reheated but still tasty. Landlord thinks the world of himself and his food, but then you dont have to talk to him, real ale was good, but limited, they had doombar on on tap. tasted good but had nothing else on. was looking forwards to something more local possibly brains but no such luck. we arrived via canoe on a two day trip. the steep stairs that you have to lug your canoe up are an absolute joke

The Camden Arms, Pembury

cracking pub, cannot say enough about it.. came down for a weekend away, and wished i had booked a room here instead of the ramada down the road. olde wolde pub with slate floors oak beams etc..real ale was out of this world. bar staff were extremely polite and very accomodating to all our needs. price of food is typical for the area as tunbridge wells isnt exactly on the cheap side of places. missus had the trout with almonds off the specials 15 and worth every penny. i had asparagus starter with hollandaise 6 and the home made burger with cheese and bacon 10. the burger alone was enough for two people. all ingredients were very fresh. Beer Garden is of good size and no real road noise. we did venture out to the better known high rocks pub across town, stayed for one pint then got a taxi straight back here....says it all

The High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells

complete tourist trap...the ryan air of the pub world that wants to charge you for every add on...walk through these gardens buy this ticket, climb here that ticket, cash back to spend in my pub sir? that would be a pound for 50 back or 2 pounds for over 50 pounds back...beautiful gardens with no one there, says it all...bar staff could not give a toss, though to be fair the man on reception kept us laughing whilst waiting for the taxi they insisted we use, even though wanting to use the company that brought there... waited one hour for that, though being told it will be only ten minutes...beer was good...try the camden arms at Pembury instead if you want an afternoon in a beer garden

The Sun Inn, Welwyn Garden City

have been living in the area for a year and cannot believe its taken this long to find such a gem....took the wife there for the first time on friday night to watch live music which started around 9pm. managed to sample all 6 ale pumps and can say that i did not have one bad pint...the staff and locals treat you as if they have known you for years.. space is limited inside but managed to book for sunday lunch which at 10 pounds per head i found steep initially. Due to the size of the portions and how tasty it was i soon forgot the cost. it s nice to see a pub which still serves it s lamb bloody. This place knocks socks off the crooked chimney, and so nice to run a tab at the bar without being asked for a credit card

The Pack Horse, Milton Hill

I cam for a weekend at the local hotel, in which the food waws over priced and rubbish, fortunatley for me there was a nice country pub next to it. Food is served fast and tastes great. Locals and owner were polite and very chatty....good all rounder with exce3llent guest ale

The Crooked Chimney, Welwyn Garden City

Took the girlfriend there for her birthday, arrived around 6pm, so was pretty quite, had a good choice of little nooks to sit in around the pub and get an intimate table. Ambience lighting and music were all fine. Service initally is from the bar for the food. Had a good Lamb chops with sweet pototoe each, four pints between us and a coffee for 33 pounds, which seemed reasonable enough. The beer was terrific (adnams best bitter) and food hot and tasty. service was excellent and the staff friendly enough. Also they have a covered smoking part in the garden which proved useful due to the rain. Just a nice queit pub ( enev though packed towards 8pm) with lots of atmosphere and reasonably priced for a birthday meal....
