Bell Inn, Winchester

Update to previous relatively negative review of 12 June 2008. Selection of beers has improved. Pub now has a much cosier, friendly feel with better food selection. Great fire too. I'll be back!

The Running Horse Inn, New Alresford

Visited on a quiet Weds lunchtime. Attractive interior but no lunch menu. Only two Greene King standards on offer. After a long walk from Winchester, I was disappointed.

Good Intent, Petersfield

Good selection of real ales, excellent plentiful home-cooked food, friendly staff, attractive location, character pub. What else can you ask for! Highly recommended. ( A Winchester visitor)

Bell Inn, Winchester

Recent refurbishment has diminished the character of this pub considerably, particularly the lounge. The old-time locals from nearby St Cross Hospital must be devastated by loss of their cosy, comfy retreat - replaced by nondescript pine furniture. Smoke still gets in your eyes from the (much improved) garden area. Beer is expensive and largely limited to Greene King standards.

The Black Boy, Winchester

Overrated, I'm afraid. OK for those who like pastiche, but that's about it. Good selection of real ales but food is often poor e.g margarine and stale white bread for a ham sandwich.

The Green Man, Hatton

Excellent pub: very friendly and helpful service, great ambience and history, food fine, Adnams (good condition) on tap on the night, large beer garden for those sunny summer days. Deserves a higher rating. Amusing website too.

Who would have thought that you could find a place like this almost under the flightpath!
