The Saracens Head, Dunstable

awful, chav-infested dump of a pub. cheap lager but it tastes poor at best.

The Mulberry Bush, Dunstable

what a difference the refurbishment has made to this place! gone are the foul toilets, the pool tables, the majority of the televisions, the disgusting lager. it is now somewhere nice to go for a meal, the bar does retain a couple of muted tvs for football/sports. a decent sized, varied menu and also a fantastic carvery, all well priced, in a nicely rufurbished pub. i cant emphasize enough how much this pub has changed for the better.

The Fancott Arms, Fancott

excellent range of food, lovely beer garden in the summer, bit of a ballache if youre over 6 foot though!! very much recommended.

The Bull, Dunstable

closed again!

The Mulberry Bush, Dunstable

rumoured to be closing soon. beer tastes god awful now, hopefully someone will buy it and turn it around, place has a fair amount of potential.

The Kings Arms, Houghton Regis

judging by the amount of 'trouble' you've managed to get into in various dunstable/houghton pubs, perhaps you are the problem mr goat, sir?

Chequers, Houghton Regis

much improved, food bit dodgy when it reopened but now reasonable enough for the cheap price you pay. interior has been improved no end by the refurb.

The Harvest Home, Houghton Regis

god awful but popular with the underclasses, just looking/walking past it is bad enough, cant see why anyone with sense would visit. 0/10.

Chequers, Houghton Regis

staff usually look depressed! otherwise probably the best pub in houghton regis, which isnt saying a great deal to be honest. fair priced lager, tasted good. menu is quite extensive and well priced but expect the usually bland stuff churned out by whichever company supplies 'the giant menu', ie microwaved meals you'd pay 99p for in most supermarkets!!!

Crown, Houghton Regis

so so pub, nothing spectacular, looks like its been refurbished fairly recently, lager was ok. nothing to attract customers or put them off really.

The Priory, Dunstable

reasonable boozer. lager was nice enough, maybe a touch on the expensive side especially with the mulberry bush just a few yards down the road. furniture was in good condition, a few sofas around the bar. maybe a bit of a 'locals' hang out, we got a few outsider looks, as it were!

Yates's, Luton

been in the last couple of saturdays, both times the lager was poor (especially last saturday, god knows how long it'd been since the lines had been cleaned!). interior isnt particulaly good, menu looked ok but maybe a bit pricey considering there is a wetherspoons 2 mins away and dozens of other food outlets dotted around. below average overall.

The Old Sugar Loaf, Dunstable

made the mistake of going into this place sober last night, dreadful lager, average prices, decent if slightly moody bar staff, and plenty of morons looking for a row or pestering the ladies. need to remember to drink more before entering again on a friday night!

The Star, Chalton

visited monday night, was very quiet. the cider was fine as was the staropraman, if a little expensive. menu was quite extensive (could do with stating all the items on the dishes!), although the steaks are a little on the small side in my opinion. had a superb 'haddock rarebit' started from the specials menu, and beef and ale pie from the main menu was good, though the chips left a little to be desired. all-in-all a good experience.

Dog and Duck, Houghton Regis

had a small refurb by the new managers, projector for big screen either currently being mended or taken out completely. average at best, apparently can get some aggro at the weekends recently. pints are pricey too.

The White House, Luton

is this the darkest pub in luton?! as per the previous comment much preferred it when it was a wetherspoons, went in on a friday night, door staff were friendly considering it was two football fans coming back from wembley and obviously drunk. strange charging a quid to get in though, why bother for the sake of 1? anyway, as with all 'spoons the beer is cheap enough and tastes ok, last two times i've been in there, there have been people being 'asked to leave' fairly forcibly by the bouncers, but i couldnt comment on whether they deserved it or not.

The Torch, Wembley Park

visited this pub before england v brazil, quite impressed considering how close it is to the ground. beer garden was packed but fairly quiet inside which meant it didnt take long to get served (although we did buy 2 pints each at the same time to avoid any delays), from memory the price wasnt too bad, 11 for 4 pints of fosters (maybe slightly wrong, it was a long day!).

The Railway, West Hampstead

went in having changed trains to go to wembley prior to the england brazil match, service adequate, quite busy but managed to find a decent seat even if the table was a bit of a mover! staropraman wasnt the best though. worth popping in for a quick pint if youre changing between the train stations and underground.

The Waldron, Crewe

average decor, decent enough amount of screens, including one in the beer garden, shame about the staff and management. top tip - dont ever work there!

31 May 2007 12:08

Gaffers Row, Crewe

oaps drinking their pension by day, almost deserted by 9pm even on weekend nights. not bad though, staff are friendly enough. beer is looked after and cant say i've ever had a bad pint in there. does attract a few morons on ocassion sadly.

31 May 2007 12:04

The Crown, Crewe

went in once about two years ago and felt very uncomfortable. may have changed now of course!

31 May 2007 11:57

The British Lion (the Pig), Crewe

nice pint, only pub except maybe the cornerbar worth a visit if you've got a long time to wait for a train. friendly for what is essentially a 'locals' pub.

31 May 2007 11:55

The Borough Arms, Crewe

was my favourtie crewe pub when i lived there, although the usual clientelle were of the more mature age group! amazing range of drinks on tap and in bottles, i reckon you could spend all day in there without being able to sample everything. as crewe pubs go it was a touch expensive but i guess importing that quantity of foreign juice costs money. shame that it seems to have almost random opening hours, many was the day/night i walked along earle street with my best mate into town and fancied a fruity beer only to find the pub shut. beer garden is a hidden treat, bit neglected but nice enough. and some half-decent polish totty behind the bar from time to time gets the thumbs up from me.

Bank, Crewe

poor.

31 May 2007 11:46

The Mulberry Bush, Dunstable

cheap carlsberg (1.90 a pint), although i got stung for 5.15 for a single vodka and red bull recently - maybe living in the north until recently has left me not expecting to pay more than 2 for a drink!! plenty of screens to watch sport on, staff usually friendly, havent tried the grub myself but looks pretty average from what i've seen friends eating, couple of pool tables as well. good atmos whenever i've watched football there, be it england or the cup final.

31 May 2007 11:43

The Kings Arms, Houghton Regis

popped in a couple of sundays ago en route to dunstable with a few friends, wasnt expecting much to be honest but pleasantly surprised. free 'sunday dinner' type nibbles brought to our table as soon we sat down, lager tasted good (from memory 2.50 for a carlsberg) and although we got a few looks from the regulars - which you tend to expect in such pubs - no bother at all.
