The White Hart, Eltham

Beer is still lousy. Food might be good but if you don't keep a good pint .....

The White Hart, Eltham

Reading down the previous comments, I see a comment about the quality of the beer. Well, the Doom bar has not improved. A pubs first priority should be it's beer, this was cloudy and tasted awful. Won't be back as I go to a pub to drink not eat!

Recently had a flyer for this place put through my letterbox. Proudly advertising special nights with drinking games etc, and an upcoming night when it is "all you can drink for 25". Just about sums up this dumps target clientele

The Park Tavern, Eltham

Has got back to something approaching it's former high standards now that Linda's sister is in there full time running the place. I made a previous comment about the quality of the ale slipping, but can happily report that normal service has been resumed and long may it last !

Ye Olde Greyhound, Eltham

Yup, it has indeed re-opened. As the 3rd branch of the Yak and Yeti restaurant chain. A great place to eat, but such shame that a wonderful old building could not have been kept in its former guise and returned to what would have had the potential to be a very nice venue for a pint.

The Three Horseshoes, Warham

Went in here a few weeks ago in the evening. The fire was roaring, the beer was excellent and the food very good. Was with my dad who was back over for a visit from Adelaide with his Australian wife. They thoroughly enjoyed all the old memorabilia, especially my dad, who commented that pubs like this are the only thing he misses about the UK. Yes it is a bit quirky, but as someone who lives in London it is a real pleasure to go to a place like that and unwind.

The White Hart, Eltham

I see from the last reviews details that he registered on the same day that he made this post. He also made a post 7 minutes before regarding a pub in Barnet that seems to have fallen on hard times. This would lead me to believe that he is the new hand on the tiller at the White Hart, so his comment needs to be taken with a large pinch of salt!.

Yes the White Hart has re-opened, and first impressions are favourable.I would certainly agree that there is a market for a smart, well run carvery type pub in the area. Decor is a vast improvement and when I went in for pint last week, the staff were indeed friendly. Have not eaten there so cannot pass comment on the food, but the beer (London Pride, the only ale on tap although there are spare hand pumps for an expansion of the range) was very nice. So, in summary, early days but so far so good ! My rating will be updated in due course once the place is established and we get more of an idea of how it is going to pan out.

Still looks a thoroughly unpleasant place for a pint. They can keep closing it and re-opening, but you cannot polish a turd :)

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

Had a few pints of the local brew in there when visiting Liverpool recently. It was pretty quiet (but this was about 2pm on a Monday), but pleasant enough. If I am back in the area I would definitely go back.

The Pumphouse, Liverpool

Went in here the other week when visiting family in Liverpool. Pretty poor. The only "ale"they had on was a Greene King brew that came up through a chiller. Ordered food (starter for one and sarnies for the other 3) and they got it wrong 3 times before eventually sorting it out. Not overly impressed with the standard of the food when it did finally get sorted either. If this is a top pup in Livepool I am glad I live in London!

Ye Olde Greyhound, Eltham

Apparently soon to re-open as a curry house.

The Park Tavern, Eltham

Have to say, I used to love this pub. However, since the owners have branched out into other pubs in Gravesend and Folkstone, they have allowed the previously high standards to slip. The previous poster's comments are spot on regarding the real ales. As my user name indicates, I do like a pint of Harveys, but it got to the stage I gave up having it as I had to keep asking for a replacement. Either sitting in the barrel to long, or the pipes aren't being cleaned properly. The owners need to get back on top of this place or all the previous good work could slip.

An absolute dive of the first order. Gave it 1 out of 10 purely because it performs a service by keeping its clientele out of other pubs. Have tried it out at various times in the 5 years I have lived in Eltham, and each time I leave wondering why I bothered! Close it down or do something with it!

The Park Tavern, Eltham

Have spoken to the new owners: It will be a totally different pub to what it has been recently. Real ales (why do pubs in Eltham think John Smiths is a proper beer?!?),a good wine list, unobtrusive music, good food (not the usual local "and chips" type of stuff) etc. Opens in about 3 weeks time.Apparently it will not appeal to the clientele who were using it before it closed (PS: no I am not the new owner!) I for one am looking forward to it. Eltham is not exactly well represented on the pub front.
